The beds were really comfortable, and all towels were large and fluffy. The kitchen was spotless with lots of equipment. The cottage information pack was clear and detailed. I especially appreciated being sent all of the information via email before our arrival. We were blessed with lovely weather ( though kept awake by ferocious winds one night: no fault of the cottage!). We loved the beaches and walked for miles, before some great meals in local pubs. I’d highly recommend Watermill to anyone wanting perfect accommodation in a stunning area. It was a lovely birthday treat.

On arrival we received a lovely welcome gift basket, as did our two pooches! Thank you to the owners for such a lovely welcoming. The only thing that was a negative for me, was the pillows in the front bedroom they are very flat and really used, they could do with been replaced with brand new ones. Also the log fire does not have the correct tools to clean it properly. Apart from that it was a lovely mini break away.

  • "We had a wonderful week in a beautiful part of the world."

The property, as described, was just off the A1 but any concerns about this meaning it may be in any way noisy were soon dispelled. It was a little gem tucked away from 'the fast lane' and yet making visiting so many beautiful places so easy - Alnwick Gardens, Holy Island, Bamburgh, and Seahouses for a boat trip round the Farne Islands to be delighted by seabirds, puffins and seals. Returning to the property was always a delight too, but still allowed for evening trips to the coast to watch the sun set or find a country pub. Property was both modern and cosy with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Only slight concern for us was that whilst health and safety on the stairs had been carefully thought through for those with young children (stair gates provided) there was we felt a slight oversight for those at the other end of the age range. My Mum is in her mid 80s and well able still to negotiate stairs but after a hip replacement is more cautious and grateful for handrails. Whilst we had carefully ensured that any property we booked had an independent shower (ie not over the bath) the staircase worried us slightly. At the very top of the staircase at the Watermill where the stairs turn for I think the last 4 steps (or the first if you are coming down) there is no hand rail. This can feel vulnerable especially when needing to begin your descent with nothing to steady you if required. Otherwise Top Mark's for a fab property in a fab location!

  • "The cottage as a whole was beautiful."

However, the downstairs floors, skirting boards and general dust on lights, picture frames and doors were awful. We spent an hour cleaning when we arrived. Numerous cobwebs hanging from ceilings and other areas and nuts under setee cushions. It was as if the cleaners had just done a superficial inspection and left. The vacuum was full to bursting, which we had to empty as it smelt, musty. I”d like to say we left the place cleaner after leaving. We have dogs and are used to cleaning but I would recommend to the owners to employ a the better cleaning team. We don’t mind cleaning up after ourselves but not on arrival to a ‘Gold Standard’ property. The upstairs was better and yet the beams whilst stunning, again needed a deep clean, this we didn’t do for obvious reasons. Now, the positivies. The surrounding area is simply stunning. The cottage is furnished we'll, and have generous facilities. No complaints whatsoever, the whole place just needs a damn good clean

Thank you for your feedback, we have taken your comments forward with the housekeeping team to ensure this doesn't happen again and that the gold standard is maintained. We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed the cottage and exploring the local area. We again thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. Regards Clare Property Owner

On arrival , the cottage was warm and inviting with hampers for us and our dogs. The cottage was spacious with a wide hallway and plenty of room for boots , coats etc , and very well equipped with everything we needed. We loved the wood burner and we had plenty of wood for a couple of nights. The small enclosed garden with stone walls was charming. Upstairs was a treat ! Vaulted ceilings , large bedrooms and bathroom, comfy beds and snow white fluffy towels + gorgeous views . We were so grateful for the comprehensive file that the owners had compiled as it had lots of information about beaches , local towns and amenities. We couldn’t fault this place - absolutely everything was perfect - thank you

Thank you so much for this lovely feedback. We always want our guests to feel at home and have a fabulous stay. We love staying at Watermill too. We hope to see you back in the future. Take care. Property Owner

  • "We decided to pay a bit more than we wd usually do for a 2 bed holiday place as it was January (!"

) - we were drawn by wood burner, accommodating our small well behaved dog, as well as the inviting write up, and good range of pics We loved the location, the building layout, the lovely furniture, the welcome packs [the dog's was very comprehensive!] and the information folder was really good, The heating was as expected and comfy (we have underfloor H at home), loads of hot water, and v comfy beds - obviously a lot of thought had gone into setting the cottage up However, my partner and I agree that the charge for the week wasn't reflected in the level of cleanliness and equipment that could have been expected - Cleanliness : felt not a lot of focused care was expended into the 'corners' of the property [ change your cleaner ??!] - Inside window frames needed a good clean, under beds were dusty [we didn't look under the sofa etc but met the dust under the bed when plugging in mobile chargers!] , and the doormat could do with a good shake as well as a vac - Suggest the pile of newspapers is removed from the log basket and from the hallway presumably left by prev occupants [smacked at uncaring, poor attention to detail] - Kitchen Equipment - generally good; quality good, [liked the cafetiere option] - lots of bowls and plates - but we would have greatly appreciated a salad bowl and other serving dishes - paddling full hot plates through to the living room was not what we could have anticipated - there were no dishwasher tablets as a starter pack - Towels were very worn - newer ones would have been nice - Woodburner - super ! But only 1 log and only 1 piece of firelighter and very few sticks [a starter pack of logs was expected from the write up, and we only found new pack of firelighters in kitchen drawer on day 6 !] ? add a section in the info folder on managing the wood burner inc let visitors know that opening the outside door in the living room stops the fire smoking for the most part until the fire takes hold And - ensure there are firelighters in the log basket [or indicate where they are!] as well as a bunch of logs By adding a small amount to the hire charge you could ensure more attention to detail .....and pay a bit more for a more effective cleaner who will prep the place as advertised !

Thank you for your feedback which we always welcome so we can consider it and where applicable make necessary improvements. We are sorry to read your review and wish you would have contacted us directly whilst you were there so any issues could have been rectified. In relation to your comments on cleanliness. I’m sorry to read dust was found under the beds. I can assure you the carpets are hoovered and cleaned every turnaround with a full dust of each room. This is a large barn where dust unfortunately resettles. We were there this weekend and certainly did not see the dust you have described and I can assure you under the couch was spotless. The downstairs floor is also mopped at each turnaround. A salad bowl has now been added to property (this has been there previously and we hadn’t realised it had gone missing) and the photos show that the dining table is separate to the kitchen area. Dishwasher tablets and laundry tablets are left under the sink along with plenty of other products which are there to be used should guests wish to use them. The towels are less than a year old and are hotel standard and deep washed after each visit. Again we apologise that these were not up to your standard. We are glad you liked the log fire and we add a starter pack which we feel is sufficient for 2 nights. The firefighters were inside the wicker basket (spare ones in the kitchen) and full instructions of usage within the welcome pack. The pile of newspapers have been left so occupants can use them to fuel the fire. We have now removed those newspapers and store them in a safe location so no longer on view. The welcome pack clearly asks guests to contact us if they are having any issues with the wood burner. Further logs can also be provided by the housekeeping team if required. Our house keeping team have exceptional reviews and they will see these comments which will enable them to take the necessary action. The cottage is currently undergoing a full repaint and decoration to add a freshness to the property, which had been rescheduled as part of the New Year anyway. Once again we thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

Generally comfortable and well equipped with only minor observations making it 4 star rather than 5. Lounge area was rather dusty on arrival and we also had issues with the lounge underfloor heating during the stay. The owners were contacted regarding the heating and were very helpful and did there very best to put things right although the plumber was only able to compete a partial repair during our time there. As minor observations, from a personal perspective, we think the mattresses on the zip link beds are sagging and could do with replacing. Also it would be better if there were a shelf for toiletries in the bathroom near the sink and also in the shower. Notwithstanding the above this is a good cottage which we would recommend and consider staying at again. The welcome pack was a nice touch and appreciated.

The beds were sooooo comfortable. It's really near the A1 which makes the rest of Northumberland very accessible and we visited a number of interesting places. Embleton beach is about 5 mins drive away and gorgeous. Cragside is an interesting house to visit with lots to explore, the walk up to the play area is steep but worth it. Alnwick Castle is well worth a visit and my 8 year old loved the information about Harry Potter filming there, we watched a jousting competition and did archery and broomstick training. Berwick upon Tweed is a small and interesting old town, the riverside walk takes you round the town. Fish and Chips at Seahouses was a treat, followed by crabbing on the rock pools. We would have visited the islands but the weather wasn't that kind to us! The rainy weather meant that we made full use of the WIFI, Netflix and the board games, jigsaws and books supplied at the cottage. We had a small issue with hot water / boiler on the last day and the owners couldn't have been more helpful and they were super responsive. We can highly recommend the cottage and the area and hope to be back soon.
