Extra welcome package was delicious. Lovely owners and accommodation and great location for exploring Northumberland. The coast is a hidden gem and we particularly enjoyed Northumberland Zoo, Nelson’s in the Park, Alnwick Gardens, Northumberland Arms etc etc! We will be back. Thank you to our hosts!

  • "We booked this cottage as my older Uncle and Aunt wanted to see Northumberland and it is ideally placed to visit many locations."

What a great find. The lodge was perfect. Can easily sleep 6 adults and has 2 shower rooms and a bathroom. So comfortable and well equipped. Dianne is an absolute darling and ensures everything is as she would want it. Unlike many self catered properties she supplied us with milk, bacon, orange juice, fruit bread, tea and coffee along with the more practical tea towels, cloths, dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid. Wifi was good too so no worries if your phone signal isn't great in that area. To top it off we had the most gorgeous pair of twin lambs to entertain us each day. The 4 of them escaped their Mum's a few times and played in front of the lodge. Dianne also sent her husband over to dig me some wild garlic for my garden. They honestly couldn't do enough for us. Would highly recommend and hope to go back.

Nothing is worse than having to run the dishwasher every day. There is more than enough outdoor space for pets to run free, especially, I imagine in the summer months, are stay was over Christmas. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

  • "Wow what a place!"

! We have just returned from the best week at Apple Tree Lodge. The lodge is in a perfect, central location to visit the beaches and castles northumberland has to offer. The lodge has a huge garden, fabulous for the kids to play on! Inside it is spacious, clean and homely. We arrived to bacon, sausage, eggs, bread, milk and wine which was a lovely, thoughtful touch. We were lucky to stay next to a family who had been visiting the lodges for 9 years in a row who gave us some great recommendations to visit in the area. A great place to visit with the family.

  • "Lovely peaceful setting."

Loads of space for the children to run around. The removal of the play area a few weeks before arrival was a disappointment for the grandchildren and one reason for booking. Noise was a bit of a surprise due to the hard floors and presumably lack of sound insulation in the floors. You could hear every footstep and snoring from above. The shower sounded like a monsoon. One bin bag for a group of 6 for a week obviously not adequate. Other than that it was a really nice break, the lodges lovely and setting wonderful.

  • "Apple Tree Lodge is a very clean and well appointed pine lodge in the grounds of Old Swarland Hall."

We were warmly welcomed by the owner, Mrs Proctor, who had left us wine, biscuits and freshly made bread. All in all a well a beautiful place to enjoy what the area has to offer. We had originally booked different accommodation but was told by Sykes, in November, that it was not available due to scheduled maintenance issues. This seemed odd as you would think any issues would be sorted through the winter months rather than in mid to high season. When we visited the site of the original accommodation, there were no signs of maintenance anywhere. What actually happened I do not know but we were very happy with our second choice and would certainly book it again.

  • "This is a lovely, spacious family holiday house."

We were there for Christmas and the welcome pack and Christmas decorations were much appreciated. The only criticisms would be the excessive number of scatter cushions in every room and the artificial plants - all of which had to be moved out of the way during our stay. The other thing that caused us some discomfort was the very small television high up on the wall in the corner of the room - not good!

She was the icing on the cake for us. Always a smile and nothing too much trouble for her. The property was spotlessly clean, well furnished and with all facilities. The lodges are extremely comfortable, very warm and very clean. All facilities are modern and efficient, hot water is plentiful and the heating can be set to just how you like it. The location is just about right, it is a very rural position but only 10mins away from shops, public house etc. The lodges are within a working farm environment so you will get the sounds and smells that go with farming, so don't be surprised when they are feeding the cattle at 7.30 in the morning, although we never heard anything once inside the lodge. Overall a great weeks holiday in a nice location with friendly hosts who try to think of everything.
