“Lovely cottage with everything you needed for a comfortable stay.”

Really cosy on a cold wet day with the log burner on. It does have a bit of a musty smell but nothing that can't be solved by opening the windows a little bit which you can do and still be able to lock them.

“Recommended, with a realistic expectation”

I'm bucking a trend by reviewing on arrival. Previous reviews had worried me, but I find them harsh. Yes, there is a slight smell of damp.... but its an old property and forwarned I brought a couple of plug ins - problem solved. The sitting room is cosy and comfortable. Parking is NOT a problem if you follow the clear instructions. The hosts left a lovely welcoming pack of bread, milk , a couple of bottles of wine and everything as promised for the woodburner.( bring matches or a lighter ) There is a presence of dog hairs .. possibly the previous person brought a dog ? But as a dog owner, and knowing its a dog friendly property, I'm not bothered.... there are only carpets on the stairs, we'll get over it. The outside space is lovely. I'm a little worried about trying to share a double quilt, but we're used to a super king !!!

“A very pretty cottage with lots of potential but it has numerous issues.”

We have been left feeling that we have been ripped off as it was not as advertised. This property suffers from damp. Despite the owners numerous attempts to mask the smell we returned home having to wash all our clothes even those we did not wear. Be cautious, the floors into the bathroom and kitchen are not level, the wooden flooring abruptly ends. Additional parking only in the pub car park (next door) and the space allocated to the cottage it not clearly marked. The bathroom needs a total redecoration, it is really poorly finished. The double bed is less than a foot off the floor (although the mattress is very comfortable). The location though (Powburn) is centrally placed for great adventures exploring. Must see/visits: The Breamish Valley“ we did a walk to Linhope Spout Waterfall (1.5 miles from where you park“ a little rough underfoot in places) and then stopped at Ingram Cafe for a bacon sandwich (such friendly staff). Craster Seafood Restaurant “dog friendly and amazing food. If you are lucky, as we were, you can see dolphins from the shore at Craster on your walk to the castle there. The various castles/ruins around the area. Kelso “just over the border in Scotland.” The local beaches The local scenery/clear skies at night - amazing. Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall (was in the film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves) “ steep going in place

“The cottage is in a great location for exploring the NE with so many lovely places to visit.”

It was comfortable and cosy and well provided for. The layout was great but lacked plug sockets at the top and bottom of the stairs to plug a night light in, as the bathroom is on the ground floor and it is pitch black at night. Parking was easy on the large pub car park which has been shut for some time, but exit should be via the access at the end of the row of cottages, which is safer than the pub car park entrance. The enclosed garden was great for our little dog and was a little sun trap! The welcome pack was lovely and overall thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

This beautiful, double-fronted cottage is located in the square at Powburn village, in Northumberland.

It is the ideal retreat for a family of four or group of friends looking to explore National Parks, nature reserves and the beautiful coastline.

Powburn is home to a village shop, however there are a wider range of amenities in Wooler, easily reached by car along the A697.

It plays host to a number of pubs, bars and eateries at the foothills of the Cheviot Hills.

You are also situated at the edge of Northumberland National Park and have all the delight of Alnwick and the coast at your fingertips.
