  • "I loved this little cottages in a perfect location to walk down to shops and restaurants etc."

Rothbury is a delightful village with interesting selection of shops. Being able to park right outside the cottage is handy just in case it is raining!! The wood burning stove would be delightful but I wasnt brave enough to light it!! For me an easy electric one with very similar result would be preferable as they are so realistic. Otherwise its.delightful.

  • "Oven didn't work during our stay."

A previous guest had the same issue 3 weeks before. We reported this but not fixed before we departed. PAT testing of all electrical appliances 18 months out of date. Cleanliness left much to be desired, skirting boards in Lounge very dirty. Panels in bathroom dirty. Large damp patch on wall of stair well. Suspicious marks on wall at top of stairs. Sykes Cottages complaints department totally useless. Avoid booking this cottage, its very tired, below acceptable standards.

  • "Cooper's Cottage was warm and comfortable, and we didn't lack for anything."

It is well placed in Rothbury, and Rothbury is a good central location for exploring southern Northumbria. So we'd certainly recommend it to others. Management and cleaning of the cottage is outsourced, and we felt it lacked some of the personal care and attention to detail that owner-management offers. We were surprised that there didn't seem to be any time control of the (very good) central heating. So we arrived to a cold cottge, and when we went out by day had only the option of leaving the heating on (wasteful) or turning it down. Fortunately the weather was not particularly cold, and the cottage warmed quickly. We were a bit concerned about the on-street parking, and unsure what to do when we came back to find someone else parked outside the cottage, Some information about this might be helpful and reassuring for future guests. One very specific point [omit from publication, but pass to owners?]: The light in the small hall inside the front door cannot be controlled from the top of the stairs, so at night one descends the stairs into darkness, which is not brilliant, specially for older people.

Absolutely everything we needed was available in the cottage. We really appreciated the welcome bowl of tea, coffee and biscuits. The local amenities in the village were excellent and the information left in the cottage for us was really helpful. If/when we visit Northumberland again, we will definitely look at staying at Coopers cottage again.

  • "Cottage was ideally situated for visiting the county and was situated well in the village of Rothbury."

Well equipped and clean internally. There is a ‘back yard’ which, if it had been clean and weeds removed, could have been a spot to enjoy the late evening sun as there is no garden. We would recommend this cottage to other couples.

  • "Coopers Cottage is a lovely property for a couple."

It has been recently decorated to a high standard and the furnishings are good and comfortable. The kitchen is well equiped with utensils for every requirement. The television is a little old but adequate, although the internet seemed a little slow at times. This is a property we would more than likely return to as we love Rothbury and surroundings.

  • "Wonderfully warm!"

Stayed at Coopers Cottage for three nights mid October. The cottage was really clean and very well equipped. The owners had thought of everything anyone could need, from dishwasher tablets to torches! The bed was comfortable and the bathroom decor a delight. A booklet about the history of the cottage and local was interesting. Excellent stay and would thoroughly recommend Coopers Cottage as a lovely place to stay.

  • "Cooper's Cottage itself is in need of some serious TLC."

Our lasting impression will unfortunately be one of "shabby & neglected" across the board; decoration, floor coverings, furnishing. Especially the kitchen, which is clearly well past its best & is equipped with an eclectic mix of cutlery, crocky, pots & pans. Surprisingly - given it was August - the property felt cold & damp with signs of dampness. To be honest (but obviously in our opinion) there seems to be little or no "thoughtful attention to detail" by the owners. Here's a couple of examples. No heed seems to have been taken to oft repeated feedback in their own visitors' book & could anyone explain why the limited kitchen cupboard space of this one bedroom property for two people is jam packed with a hotch-potch of over 30 drinking glasses leaving no space for food storage? It certainly was not good value for money (at over £800 for the week). If I thought that Sykes truly had its customers' best interests at heart, I would be asking for a refund.

  • "We do have two criticisms: in common with many of the previous guests (judging from the visitors' book) we had difficulty making the television work."

We finally sussed it out, but never got to grips with the DVD! Also, the 13.5 tog duvet was far too heavy for the July weather. Overall, we did enjoy our stay in Cooper's Cottage - Rothbury is a lovely small town and the cottage was clean and, bedding apart, very comfortable.

Great value too. We loved pur week rockpooling and walking. All i would say is the bath was dirty (hairs of a certain nature left in it) and gritty with dirt on arrival. Had to clean. Also the floors needed a good hoover at the edges. Otherwise

  • "The cottage was great."

Everything was clean and well looked after. I was disappointed that there was no welcome booklet explaining how everything works. We had to find the thermostat, and couldn’t get the fire started. We managed to get the tv working but could see how others might also have trouble with that since there were multiple remotes. Otherwise a great stay!

  • "Problem on the first dat with the heating."

Tried for a few hours to get it to come on. (Found the boiler in the bathroom). Getting cold so rang the number provided. The manager tried to talk me through it but the boiler didn’t match what he was saying. The pressure dial was on zero. He had to come personally but he lived about an hour away (Cramlington to Rothbury) So we had to stay in and wait for him. This was now about 7:00pm. When he arrived he couldn’t solve the problem. Eventually after a few phone calls he managed to get the pressure on and the heating came on. At all times he was polite and obviously trying his best to get the place warm. There were plenty of leaflets about all the appliances in the house but no simple ‘how to’ sheet. It was a case of guess and have a go. All the other places we have stayed in have had ‘dummy’ sheets regarding the appliances in the house, and information about the local area (restaurants, pubs, walks etc) Apart from that first day we had a lovely stay, as you can see by the above feedback.

  • "Cooper's Cottage is a very comfortable base from which to explore Northumberland."

We really enjoyed staying here. Comfortable bed and good bathroom with plenty of space to put toiletries. The cottage is cosy with a gas "wood burning" stove and the kitchen is well-appointed. There is a tiny back yard but nowhere to sit as the bench mentioned on the back door wasn't there. Some instructions for operating the heating, dvd etc, would be useful and an update for the cottage information to make it clear the stove is gas, not log- fired would help. (This would have saved us bringing logs!). The village of Rothbury is charming and has several pubs and restaurants, a fish and chip shop and a Co-op. Overall this is a great cottage and well placed for both coast and country. We would certainly consider booking again.
