We felt there is a slight privacy issue between the cottage next door, The kitchen window looks onto Blacksmiths, feel the need for the fence to be extended to the end of Old Colliery cottage. I would recommend this to family & friends.

The owners had also left us a generous food gift package in addition to milk, which after a long drive from Plymouth was very much appreciated. We had lots of enjoyment watching the resident goat and ponies and the Running Fox cafe/pub in the village served sumptuous food including breakfast, which we had on our leaving day as we had to be out of the property by 9am. I would heartily recommend this rental.

Warm and cosy. Large rooms. Well equipped. The only thing I would suggest is some coat hooks. There is nowhere to hang coats unless you put them in the wardrobes. Visited a few places nearby. Cragside, Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island. Owners live opposite so on hand if you need anything. Would definitely return and recommend to friends and family.

Very nice welcome pack however no hand soap and just a spot of washing up liquid? We were two couples sharing not really suitable for 6 as only one ensuit shower and a bathroom with a small very old bath, it would be greatly improved if a shower were to be fitted in place of the bath. Great location for visiting a very beautiful area.

On our first visit we never thought things could get better but the cottage has been updated with new decorating and furnishings. We were left an excellent welcome pack. The owner is very charming and friendly. It is central for visits to various places. There is a fantastic Sunday market at Amble and the Amble inn serves an excellent Sunday carvery. We will definitely be back to this cottage. In our opinion it warrants 5*s. Lynne and Alan Rhodes

  • "We were a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) staying at Blacksmith cottage whilst visiting family."

It was a fabulous location, quiet spot and close to all the key spots of Alnwick, Alnmouth, Warkworth etc. The house is very spacious and the garden was well secured for children and dogs. There was some confusion about us bringing 2 pets rather than 1 (I filtered for pet friendly and 2 dogs when booking) and we did get an email during our break saying we should have paid extra (which we were not prompted for at time of booking) which was a bit upsetting. I would suggest just double checking when you book to avoid this. But, we had a lovely stay and a great welcome pack from the owner which was very kind. Overall a well equipped home to stay in a great spot.

Sorry there was confusion about your dog situation but it does state 1 dog and if we had been contacted we would have aloud another dog as we have done in the past Property Owner

A great well equipped kitchen / diner and a superb lounge , both with patio doors leading to the outdoor seating. I would highly recommend Blacksmiths Cottage for a family getaway. Would definately recommend this property and we are already planning our next visit. On our arrival we were blown away by the marvellous welcome package which included lots of thoughtful treats, wine, fruit, chocolate and more… You could see that a lot of careful attention had gone into making us feel welcome and comfortable for the duration of our trip. although the heating is good and efficient , when we arrived the property was cold and damp even though the heating was on, I expect the property had been unoccupied and the heating off for a while before our stay. as others have said , the property really needs a dishwasher. for a place that sleeps six and has a large kitchen diner , with plenty of space, it is surprising not to have a dishwasher. a lot of the crockery was a bit grubby, smeared and greasy, probably because its hard to clean effectively without the hot wash from a dishwasher, something all guests would appreciate in covid times. as also mentioned , the wet room remains very wet, it doesn't drain effectively , with just a few tweaks , this could be a great place to stay

  • "This was not a holiday."

We unfortunately had a flood in our bathroom at Christmas the result being we had to vacate the premises whilst the entire bathroom was removed including the floor and replaced. This was allowed in lockdown as it was an emergency.o Blacksmith Cottage was convenient and suitable for us. It was very warm and comfortable. It was clean and well appointed. My comments would be that there are no coat hooks for outdoor clothing and nowhere for wet and muddy footwear. If you were on a walking holiday, especially with a dog, this could be very inconvenient. My other comment is that the only shower is off the main bedroom in the en-suite. The main bathroom only has a bath. The property accommodates three couples. This means four people would have to access the shower by going through someone else’s bedroom. Personally this would make me feel uncomfortable. The location of the cottage is lovely and allows easy access to local attractions.

  • "A lovely cottage which served our family of 6 adults and Springer spaniel well."

A secure outside space allowing our beloved dog safe access to venture out on his own without risk of harm. We loved the access to the outside space via living room double doors and kitchen dinner double doors, frequently left open to allow fresh air in. The cottage has 3 ample double rooms and two bathrooms. We felt maybe a shower mixer tap in the main bathroom would have been helpful and maybe also a few pegs to hang coats in the hallway would have been helpful but all in all the cottage was well equipped and didn't disappoint. The kitchen was a great space for us to all sit together at breakfast and dinner and the welcome treats package gratefully received. The bins there do not take glass but after ringing the owners for advice we found out that there is a bottle bin at the side of the little shop in the village just over a mile away which proved useful. There is a TV in every bedroom kitchen and lounge and when there is six of you that it was useful. The younger ones congregated in the kitchen dinner whilst us parents and pet dog preferred the comfortable lounge. A great spot to access Alnmouth and Embleton sands, Markham (nice pub called The Masons) Alnwick 4 miles away for town and home to the amazing Bater Books, stayed for coffee and cake there to give the younger ones time to browse and wonder at this amazing place, the local drinks shop on the square selling mead etc was amazing offering tasters, Dawn did a great job there and sold our family allsorts of goodies. Amble, a lovely little fishing harbor with little independent shops in little pods and two great restaurants, The Old boat house and the dog friendly Fish Shack, we had a fabulous meal there. Craster for the famous Old smokehouse kippers and walk up to Dunstanburgh castle amongst the rock pools, well worth a visit. Holy Island is an absolute must, a serene and tranquil place, Denise, David and Karen at the gift shop were very informative and helpful. The young people loved their time at Bamburgh castle (sadly not for us as not fog friendly) Malcolm the car park attendant was an absolute star. We would have liked to have gone to Horwick hall but again not dog friendly at all, not even in the grounds so the ancestral seat of Earl Grey didn't get a visit from us, they may wish to rethink there position and at least let dog owners into the grounds as do the magnificent Chatsworth house, they missed out on 6 adult tickets as our children would have happily taken there turn in walking Beau, our well behaved spaniel around whilst we visited. All in all a lovely holiday was had by all with a final trip to The running fox patisserie squeezed in on the way home, it was special.

It ought also to be made clear that there is no lawn or garden accompanying the property, only a relatively narrow area of enclosed patio surrounding it - sufficient for an outside table and chairs and some potted plants, but not much else.
