  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Charlie's Cottage, It has everything you could need."

Very secure for dogs and children, garden spacious and on a nice day very enjoyable. We saw a review of the cottage before we went saying the heaters were inadequate, we do not agree with this at all. There is no heating in the hall and kitchen so if you keep the doors closed it actually gets warm and cozy, we had mixed weather and never needed to use the fire, the heaters were enough. The owner has tried to give you everything you could need, extra blankets, electric blankets on beds, starter pack for the fire etc. We would quite happily stay at Charlies cottage again in the future.

  • "Perfect stay, the house is lovely and cozy, very clean and well equipped."

It has a big enclosed garden which was perfect for our dog. The town has a lovely Hotel and pub close by and lots of things to do around the area like visiting castles, walks to old settlements and even Jim Clark's motorsport museum.

  • "Charlies cottage was a little disappointing, it was very cold and found the storage heaters were inadequate, we had to have the log burner on every day and wasn't cheap to run."

Outdoors was in need of maintenance and stairs to the garden were full of dead leaves making it very slippy. The shower was not powerful enough and hot water only lasted a few minutes, one of us couldn't use the bath or shower as no safety handles and being elderly made it unsafe. A lot of dust and cobwebs in the lounge area. The area in general was not for us as there was not a lot for us to see or do.

  • "A charming little cottage."

Ideally situated for all that the Borders have to offer. Charlie's is a cute cottage with all you need for getaway. Brilliant to have the enclosed garden for the dogs and plenty of gates to keep the kids and dogs safe. The host was really responsive to our messages and provided just the right level of details in her communications. We enjoyed our short stay at Charlie's very much.

Useful heated blankets on the beds. Good sized dog friendly garden. Good communication with owner. Washing machine and dishwasher. An interesting quirky cottage. Very friendly area to stay. Somethings to be aware of :- no heating in the kitchen or hall, this meant these rooms were very cold, also Struggled to get hot water out of the taps.

A really well equipped, clean, cosy, comfortable property. Beautiful secure, gated gardens that the dog loved exploring. Easy to access other nearby towns and visitor attractions such as Coldstream, Duns and Berwick to mention just a few. A very peaceful, restful break and we would definitely like to stay at this cottage again.

We did have a couple of issues ,the bathroom radiator was not working which meant we couldnt get the towels dry. Also the ouside area had a dog poo left in it which we removed . Also there was a patch of moss on the area which was slippy when it rained. .We felt that it should have been power washed .

Amanda the owner of the cottage was great and allowed us to have our dogs with us, and liaised with us during our stay. Cottage was very clean, tidy and felt like home. Everything you need and in driving distance of Duns only 4 miles away where there are many shops ie co-op bakery, take always, chip shops Vet and if you have any car problems I highly recommend Adam Green motors in Duns he’s also a good friend, he came to the rescue when a nail puncture the tyre. Nothing not to like about this lovely cottage and great value for money, only negative wish we could have stayed longer. Huge thank you to Sykes Cottages for their very speedy professional help the day we arrived under family emergency, they delivered can’t thank them enough for their super service. • "Excellent cottage for dog owners, totally secure large garden, dog bowls and other necessities provided."

The cottage was very well set up with nearly everything you need for a great stay. Unfortunately I had expected there would be a hairdryer but there isn’t. The main bedroom needs blackout blinds behind curtains as there is a street light directly outside the window and the TV reception is often poor. We didn’t let any of this ruin a fabulous getaway in a lovely quirky cottage. Would definitely go again.

Secluded, lovely private enclosed garden for the dogs. Only issue was the heating. Some teething problems with new heaters programming. Also we wanted to each have a bath we had to boil extra water. Otherwise the perfect retreat.

The garden was overgrown at the front. The grass in the orchard, the gardener has only cut half the grass. The long grass, if you have a dog and it went to the toilet was very hard to find and clean up. As for the other grass, all the cuttings was left and carried into the property.

I was to find no central heating and no running hot water but there was two electric heaters one in the toilet and the other in the double bedroom and to portable heaters in the living room alongside the log burner which was fantastic the heat from was brilliant but otherwise the the cottage was lovely and forgot all the bed's Hadd electric blankets

Hi, the village is off-grid so the heating is by thermostatic and oil-filled electric radiators with the log burner in the living room and all beds have electric blankets as you noted. Hot water is provided by the immersion heater which together with the switch is found in the kitchen. This is turned on prior to your arrival so that you have a supply of hot water ready to use. Neither myself nor my local contact were made aware of any problems with the hot water during your week's stay so that any problem could be investigated and resolved. I'm glad you enjoyed other aspects of the cottage and thank you for the review. Property Owner

  • "Charlie's cottage was lovely, our dog particularly enjoyed the enclosed garden/orchard the fruit from which was so sweet and juicy."

The cottage itself was well equipped, although the heating took a bit of getting used to, but the log burner in the lounge made it cosy; a great place to be on the couple of cold, wet days we had. We are both in our 70's and we would really have appreciated a hand grip in the bath/shower. The owners are to be complimented upon the wonderful library of books, particularly on Scottish history and fly-fishing. It was amazing to think that part of the cottage was built around the time of the Jacobite Rebellion , thankfully the more up-to-date extension gave the cottage many of the modern necessities we expect today, such as running water, electricity the like. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Charlie's Cottage and would love to re-visit it again.
