  • "We had our first doggy holiday at The Groom's Cottage."

The cottage is very dog friendly, clean and with all the facilities you need. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. Liz and Mike were keen to know we were happy and nothing was too much trouble. They came out in the middle of Storm Arwen to make sure every cottage had found the torches, as the power went off. They came back again in the morning to make sure everyone was ok. If you want a relaxing break with plenty to do if you want it, the Allanbank are perfect.

Some people could find the beds a little firm but as long as you don't mind a firm bed it's an excellent place to stay.

  • "This a lovely little cottage in tranquil secluded surroundings, beautifully maintained with all mod cons and two bathrooms, one en suite."

WiFi worked fine and with a fenced front garden and good walks nearby ideal for our Lurcher as well as for us! Lots of great places to visit. We had only 2 nights but managed two sections of the Southern Upland Way, one from Abbey St Bathans and one from Longformacus, plus we visited St Abbs Head and bought a fine piece of sculpture in the craft shop there, featuring local crafts people. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for long or short breaks, with helpful and friendly hosts.

  • "Excellent time."

Cottage was great & surrounding area wonderful for walking Only comments would be that wifi was very bad. Most of the time it told me I was connected fine, but there was no internet. It was frustrating knowing the cottage had wifi, but not having it available. Would be easier to actually say there was no wifi which I think would have been easier to cope with. Wanted wifi mainly to check on weather for next day and see opening times of different places to go & visit. Other comment would be that the teapot was in the cupboard and when I went to use it there was a used teabag in. This had obviously not been washed. Info said all crockery would have been washed. In todays climate this is especially important. Overall though an absolutely fabulous holiday & cottage was great

The cottage was very warm with electric storage heaters, making for a very cosy November break. Board games were provided which came in handy for the early dark nights. The dog was happy and safe in the small enclosed patio area. Lovely surroundings with the cottage in the middle of a woodland. Autumn leaves with beautiful colours and sheltered from the wind and frost. Lovely place.

  • "This cottage was lovely in a beautiful rural setting."

It was in a very good location with easy access to Berwick-Upon-Tweed and generally very quiet and comfortable. However, annoyingly, while there was a dishwasher, there was a very limited range of crockery, glassware and cutlery, quite a lot of which was chipped. At the same time, there was a wide range of cooking pots etc. There was no brush for the floor and the hoover was unusable so while we attempted cleaning, it was very limited. We felt a little tlc would go a long way.

About the location

CHIRNSIDE

Duns 6 miles; Berwick-upon-Tweed 9 miles.

The village of Chirnside occupies an elevated position overlooking the River Whiteadder and offers stunning views across the magnificent Cheviot and Lammermuir Hills. A number of interesting landmarks depict the village's long history, including a 16th Century dovecot and a beautiful parish church, believed to date back to the 12th Century. Each summer, the Jim Clark Rally, the only 'closed roads' race on mainland Britain, takes place in and around the Borders as a memorial to the village’s home born champion. Just 9 miles away lies the charming, coastal town of Berwick, boasting quaint, narrow streets enclosed within Elizabethan walls, excellent shopping and dining facilities and an interesting arts centre. The local area affords fantastic fishing, golf, walking and riding opportunities and the nearby resorts of Eyemouth, Coldingham and Spittal offer soft, sandy beaches, ideal for a relaxing afternoon. A brilliant location for exploring historic Edinburgh, the stunning Northumberland coastline, and the attractions of Holy Island, Paxton House, Manderson, Bamburgh and Alnwick Castle.
