Cleanliness - when we arrived at the property there were dog poo bags left outside the outer door. One was there most of the week until my husband put it in the bin. The property had not been cleaned to a high standard, the floors were grubby and there were dead flies underneath one of the tables in the lounge. There was also someone’s lipstick under one of the dressers in the master bedroom (in full view). There was grease on the pans in the kitchen cupboard and the oven was absolutely filthy. The bath towels smelt of dog- now we like dogs but don’t particularly like to smell like them. When we stripped the bed we found there was no mattress protector and the mattress was stained. Maintenance - the e-suite window does not shut and it also has a hole in it so will be cold in winter months. There has also been a problem with the flooring in the property and it’s taped up in many places. Attention to detail would have made our stay much more comfortable. Saying all of this we really enjoyed our stay and feel it’s a shame that the attention to detail would have made it so much better. On a final note the published information states there was a DVD player available, this information is incorrect as we understand it has been removed.

Yhe setting was wonderful, and peaceful. Th only problem was with the sofa bed. This was really not big enough for two adults, and they had quite difficult nights. . Everything else was up to expected standard and we enjoyed it It was unfortunate that my husband and iI are not of an age to sleep on a sofa bed (being over 80 yrs) this ment that the main driver and partner had to use it and it mabe them a little weary each day. Everythong else was very good.

The open plan living area has the most amazing view across the bay which constantly changes with the light along with the ebb and flow of the tide. The apartment was spotlessly clean upon arrival with soap and cleaning equipment provided. Take dishwasher tablets, salt and bin bags. The shared hallway was also very clean and it was easy to park either at the front or back of the building. The apartment doesn't have a dvd or cd player as suggested in the description. Or at least if it does, we didn't find them! Also the fridge is quite small, so don't arrive with lots of chilled products, you might not be able to squeeze them all in. The bathrooms are modern and finished to a high standard, with two good showers and a bath. I would completely recommend this apartment. We have had a lovely week and would definitely return.
"The view is mesmerising, the light changes constantly, it is a paradise for watching wildlife from the windows,if only for a few days ,it was a fantastic chance to kick back and breathe,especially in these strange times."
"The key codes were unclear, we were sent two codes, a “door code” and another code for “the inner door if it is locked” when actually we needed just ONE code for the key safe box located next to the main door to access the building which contained keys for both the main door to the building & the key for the apartment - very confusing as there wasn’t any other keypads to enter codes in to?"
! I note this had been commented on previously in the guest book. When we eventually accessed the building & the apartment we found a broken glass put away in the cupboard, a dirty unwashed cup in a different cupboard. There was NO hand sanitiser at the sanitising station on entering the main building, the sanitiser dispenser was empty ALL WEEK, as this is a communal entrance this surely should be checked daily and refilled when necessary? Cobwebs in the main bathroom, cobwebs in the hallway, the lounge & hall floors had not been cleaned or swept and there was barely any hand wash left in the property, we purchased more but surely given the current situation with COVID these are basic essentials? The blind in the main bedroom is broken and can’t be pulled down to block out the light which had also been mentioned in the guest book previously. The apartment itself was very nice and the view is stunning but the lack of cleanliness left a lot to be desired, we have visited many different properties in Northumberland over the years - this was the most expensive and is the only one we would not return to, our holiday was enjoyable but the cleanliness of the property was very disappointing.

If you are a birder, come with a telescope and you will be rewarded. I saw from the window up to 5 little egrets, ruff, greenshank, a pair of majestic swans, common sandpiper, 500 wild greylags up the creek early one morning, lots of redshank, gulls and duck. Round the corner at the public parking, 7 curlew sandpiper, knot, black tailed godwit. You need patience with the front door key; take bin bags and dishwasher tablets.

The garden was handy for our little dog & also the children. We enjoyed exploring the local area & spent a lot of time walking along the coast and visiting local beaches. We didn't have to drive very far to find a new spot to explore. All in all a fantastic location. We have already recommended to friends and family.

Never fails us, from the setting to the facilities, right down to the gorge is welcome cake. It's in a great position for beach walks and places to visit.

Many useful thing’s thoughtfully provided (teas coffee sugar salt etc) in a way that was unusual for its completeness. Also there was a fantastic chocolate cake (thank you). Plenty of room for four, six at a pinch.

Pretty central for most of the usual attractions - Bamburg, Alnwick, Berwick and so on but also for other less well known places such as Flodden Field, Coldstream Jedburgh and Duns. We were very comfortable for the week. We have only one complaint and that is that with so much food and toiletries left by previous guests in the cupboards - there was little room for ours! Suggest the cupboards are cleared out for future guests. We had a wonderful week and would certainly return.

Great location and could spend the whole holiday just watching the birds from the window seats. Awful weather when we were there but still managed to have a relaxing time, will definitely go again.

We loved the views over the bay - we can't see the sea so well in Sheffield! We know the area well and have stayed in the Seahouses area many times so we knew we could easily get to our favourite places: Barter Books in Alnwick, the beaches at Seahouses, Embleton, Low Newton, Beadnell etc. The main reason for our stay this time was to take our friend away for a much needed break and to take her to Lindisfarne - somewhere she has wanted to visit for years. We had perfect weather for our Lindisfarne trip which made it all the more special for her.

The chocolate cake on arrival was beautiful, and an unexpected gift! Very comfortable and clean. The window seats and binoculars that were provided proved to be an instant hit, and we saw lots of different birds on the bay. We would highly recommend friends to stay here. Thanks for a restful week!
"The only issue is there appears to be a sewerage facility within the property grounds where a tanker empties effluent several times in the week and the smell is pretty bad."

Booking with dog for first time so pleased to find your site. Not sure if I missed it but the first I noticed that dogs not allowed in bedrooms or on furniture came with final paperwork after full payment. On the whole not a problem but I would have preferred to know this beforehand as dog is used to sleeping in bedroom on her own bed on floor and we couldn't let her in there. This made her anxious at first. If this is a general rule for all your cottages then would be good to know in prominent text before booking. A lovely location and very well stocked flat. Thoughtfully provided milk and chocolate cake. We had a lovely holiday and I would recommend both Sykes and this flat. Final point, the mill and adjacent flats are served by a septic tank only 40 feet way which is emptied daily early morning. As you would expect, it is incredibly smelly while being pumped out. The smell almost clears within an hour or so but the garden area is prone to a general miasma of human effluent when the air is still.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.
