  • "Lovely cottage with everything you need for a great stay."

Beautifully decorated and very clean. Lovely large garden. We could not fault it.

  • "Various elements could have been better."

The bathroom downstairs could do with a facelift. The cupboard is rotting, there is electrics, presumably for a much needed extractor, but no extractor. The cooker had a sprained door on the main oven which leaked heat. Not practical or environmentally friendly. Both steps in and out of the cottage are not ideal. The back one in particular was very high and one of our dogs is very elderly and struggled with the step, anyone with a disability would probably not be able to use the back garden and yet there is a downstairs bedroom and bathroom. A light for outside at the back would be a bonus as when letting the dogs out at night/early morning you can’t actually see them. A hand towel for the kitchen would be nice. As would a tumble dryer. The address given by Sykes for the cottage was incorrect. The cottage is actually No.5 not 3 as stated by you. DVDs were provided but no player, no instructions for the Xbox.

  • "The cottage is beautiful and very well equipped and comfortable for 8 people to stay The downstairs bathroom needs a deep clean."

The shower has black mould in the ceiling and throughout the tiled walls I have informed the owner if this following feedback Unfortunately we won’t be able to use this cottage today as the fence at the end of the garden wasn’t adequate for our dogs that are medium to large breeds. There is nowhere to walk them in the evening as the main road is not safe to do so.

  • "Though there is a downstairs bedroom and bathroom, my mom who is disabled was unable to use the shower due to the shower tray being too high."

She was unable to lift her legs high enough to step in. Plus the step into the cottage at front and back of property is too high for disability access. Other than that the place is lovely.

  • "Upon arrival we unfortunately felt the need to vacuum and wash a few items of crockery before use."

Everything else was perfect! The location is is great for exploring the area and cottage itself is very comfortable and well equipped. There was pretty much every kitchen utensil you could think of and the lounge contained an xbox, games and dvds galore. The garden has a nice seating and outdoor dining area and was secure for our dogs too. We had a very relaxing break and have already booked to return.

  • "The cottage was a great space both inside and out and the majority of the cottage met the ‘4 tick’ rating."

The cleanliness of the bathrooms and main sitting room were good. As the week went on we did notice that the kitchen hadn’t been well cleaned following the previous visitors, such as food on the dining chairs and place mats, dirty crockery in the cupboards etc. The main reason for giving 3 rather than 4 stars were the mattresses. They were well past their best and looked like a concertina from the sides, the springs having ‘gone’ in the centre. We tried the double on the ground floor and this was the same. I hope the owners consider replacing these as it would certainly stop us returning. The location is fairly peaceful but next to a 60mph busy road leading to the coast with no path to walk along so you do need to use a car to go anywhere.

  • "Gateway Cottage was perfect for our 3 generation family holiday."

The kitchen had everything we needed and the bedrooms were a good size and the beds comfortable. The enclosed garden was fabulous for us to sit in and safe for the dogs. Druridge Bay is close-although the sea fret meant we didn’t always get to see the sea! This just meant that we explored more of Northumberland. I will be recommending it to my friends and will consider booking again if we revisit Northumberland.

  • "Excellent kitchen, everything you could want."

Lovely garden area and safe for the dogs. Great outdoor furniture. Comfy beds/very good quality bedding. Not far to wonderful beaches (lots of them dog friendly) Only thing the property does need, is a step down from the back door, it's quite a big 'drop' and anyone with mobility issues would really have a problem

  • "When we arrived we were greeted with a bottle of wine and a box of chocolate unfortunately the chocolates were 4 months out of date."

The house looked clean unfortunately this wasn't the case when we came to use the cooker door broken didn't shut properly and in between cooker and work top was absolutely filthy weeks of old and stale food. Pillows with no protective covers so the pillows had bad stains on them this is not acceptable at any time especially with covid 19 due to that fact we didn't use them very disappointed indeed with the cleaning of the house

Hi Following on from feedback left by Michael Robshaw on the 30th April. If you could confirm receipt and publishing to the site we would be grateful. We would like to leave the following in response. We are sorry that you felt that things were not as you expected at Gateway cottage. It a shame that these issues were not raised on the occasions we spoke so that we might have discussed solutions during your stay. Taking each point separately. * Chocolates out of date: We apologise this is an oversight on our part caused by the delay in use caused by the pandemic, however we should have thought of this and will ensure that all items are checked going forward. * Cooker door not closing properly: One of the doors does slightly protrude on one side but does is fully functional. The cooker has recently checked before re-opening as part of gas safe checks. * Unclean between the cooker and work surface: We were not sure fully what this meant but will raise the issue with the cleaners to ensure that all areas around the cooker are fully checked before guests arrive. The oven had been fully cleaned to a professional standard in the week before opening. * Stains on pillows, no protectors on: We would not expect any stains on the pillows as they are checked after each visit by the cleaner and will raise your feedback to understand why this has happened. Mattress and pillow protectors have been removed by the cleaners as part of changes during Covid. The cleaning team do have extensive additional covid measures which take longer per visit and comes at additional cost to us. The approach includes using a protective spray throughout the cottage between visits to make sure everything is safe. There are details of the additional measures are in a file in the cottage. Many thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. Nick and Sarah Hi Following on from feedback left by Michael Robshaw on the 30th April. The upstairs bathroom door rubs and bangs on the tiles. The wardrobe door in the upstairs double bedroom as no handle and the main light does not work. There is no light in the downstairs shower cubicle so very dark when taking a shower, there is an electric cable sticking out the wall, the bathroom door does not lock. The main oven door is sprained so unable to use. An outside light on the back would be good. This property needs a bit of TLC otherwise good.

  • "A fabulous cottage in a great location, just a short drive from the wonderful Druridge Bay and close to other major attractions."

The house smelt divine when we first walked in. The garden is great for dogs and the neighbours (who we hardly saw) were so kind - one neighbour was ready to take in our Tesco delivery when we were running late, and another neighbour kindly let us know that our washing had blown off the line and may need re-washing. The welcome pack was most welcome too after the long drive. All in all, a lovely week in a lovely cottage.

About the location

WIDDRINGTON

Morpeth 8.4 miles; Amble 6 miles;

Widdrington is a village located around eight miles north east of Morpeth, an ideal place for exploring the county of Northumberland in an area wonderful for walkers, cyclists and bird-watchers. The local parish church is Grade I listed and dates to the Norman era, commanded by elevated ruins of the 18th century Widdrington Castle. The country park at Druridge Bay is less than two miles away and the bustling little seaport of Amble, situated at the mouth of the River Coquet, can also be reached easily. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters - the daily catch can be bought at a fish shop in the harbour. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks, which boat trips can be arranged around. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster, as well as numerous superb beaches, are only a short drive away, whilst the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are also within easy reach. Be sure to visit picturesque Warkworth and its castle, plus the charming town of Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens too.
