  • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

Having 3 en-suite bedrooms worked really well for 3 couples to celebrate new year. All the bedrooms were spacious and had good storage. The shower in the twin room is compact but was fine for the shorter couple in the group. Great size kitchen that had just about everything we needed. Some of the crockery and wine glasses were a bit or a mismatch and would benefit from being updated. Living room was also spacious and had plenty of room on comfy sofas and chair to accommodate everyone. Didn’t use the garden as it was winter, but would have been a great space in warmer weather and looked ideal for anyone with a dog. Great location for getting out and about to Durham and the coast and locally for walks. Used both pubs in the village and both did what we needed. Glendenning arms good for a post walk drink and the travellers rest was great for dinner. Would recommend both.

Spacious, clean, warm and comfortable. Only 3.5 miles from Durham City and five mins from the Park and Ride. The complex of holiday lets was very impressive. Plenty of parking and the enclosed garden was perfect for our dog. There were also countryside dog walks from the property. Chris the owner was super friendly and very helpful. I would certainly recommend The Turnip Barn. Honestly one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in (and there’s been many!)

It is set in a beautiful rural landscape yet only minutes away from Durham and half an hour from Newcastle. There were alpacas in the field which we visited on a daily basis. Make sure to pack a manual toothbrush as the is no charging point for electric toothbrush/shaver in bathrooms. Be sure to read the information pack left by Chris as it gives such interesting information about the history of the property.

The beds were very comfortable and the showers flowed well with plenty of hot water. Shower mats to avoid the possibility of slipping whilst showering should perhaps be provided and electric toothbrush chargers in the bathrooms are needed. The weather was amazing and we enjoyed sitting out in the garden with our wine! We would consider returning.

Chris and Julie were really well organised, down to calling in to check everything was okay on the late afternoon we arrived to the Easter touches around the cottage. Home from home! On arrival, the cleaners had done a wonderful job, the cottage being spotless. Facilities for Ted the dog were great. He could be let out in the back garden with no fear of him getting out and always within eyesight. I can't recommend the Turnip Barn highly enough.

  • "I booked The Turnip Barn for a week in Dec-22 and we happened to have freezing and snowy weather for the duration."

The cottage was so warm, inviting and comfortable. It is a large cottage (3 bedrooms, each with en suite) with a walled (secure) garden which was perfect for my dog. The log fire gives extra heat as needed and is perfect for those dark, chilly winter evenings. This really is a wonderful cottage with all the facilities you need during a week away. Additionally, there are very good walks straight from the cottage door. The owners had very sweetly left a bottle of bubbly and box of chocolates as a welcome and when I met one of the owners in person (Chris), he was chatty, knowledgeable and very helpful. This is quite possibly the best cottage that I have stayed in to date and I would certainly look to return for another week next year. Thank you!

We loved the old beams and high ceilings. The choice of decor was stunning. The owners have put a lot of thought into how the different properties on the site work together, allowing plenty of space for parking, even with more than one car per property. Our back garden was really lovely with good furniture and a large barbecue. Furthermore, it was clean and secure for our dog to run around and play.
