  • “The location of this cottage ...”

The location of this cottage couldn't be better, it's literally opposite the co-op so forgetting stuff isn't a problem. Wooler is a great little village with a nice area down by the river and caravan park to give dogs a run, a few pubs, cafes and local shops as well as being perfectly central to explore all over Northumberland and beyond. Buttercup cottage is cosy and comfortable with lots of details covered by the owner, hairdryer, iron, high chair should you need one, washing machine and plenty of airers for drying. It has great central heating but extra fan heater/fire in the living room AND a couple of portable electric radiators if you really feel the cold. Extra blankets and throws so that you can really look forward to getting home if you are on holiday at a cooler time of year or have just had a freezing time on an open top bus in Edinburgh for example. Wifi, tv and dvd player as well as games and books kept the kids entertained. TONS of storage in all areas for pretty much anything you might have brought with you. The second bedroom is very small as you can see from the photos but our kids of 13 and 11 found it very comfortable. If you have a younger child the main bedroom is really spacious with lots of room for a travel cot or similar (dog bed in our case!). The bathroom has a powerful, over bath shower, bath with handles and really deep washbasin. Other reviewers mentioned the cleanliness of the cottage. We did find a few cobwebs and there is a little bit of a damp problem at the front of the house attended to with de-humidifiers. This didn't affect us at all but leaving the bedroom window open when you can would help with the condensation for the benefit of the cottage over time. There were a few odd items left behind from previous occupants but I think that is because I am nearly 5'9" and could see into the top shelves of the closets. But all textiles, bed linen etc were spotless and the 'paw prints' mentioned on the duvet are either part of the pattern or pernament marks of some kind. Everything else was of a decent standard, hoovered, scrubbed and wiped, no problem! The rubbish bins are in the entry at the side of the house, blue for recycling, black for everything else. The cottage is for sale at the moment but the current owner was so kind in leaving us a welcome basket and fresh flowers for our arrival, even subbing soya milk after we informed her that we were all vegan! We really had a great stay in Buttercup cottage and would definitely recommend it for a great value, family holiday in Northumberland.
