  • "My wife, two dogs and I had a lovely break at Kathy’s cottage."

There was a bottle of wine, cookies, milk and fresh flowers waiting when we arrived which was very thoughtful. The house was very clean and really well equipped for us. The location was great for exploring Northumberland and the dogs had a great time at various beaches and in the woods on Wooler Common. I’d heartily recommend The Old Bakery to anyone wanting to visit this part of the country.

  • "Cozy & comfortable accommodation in a great location if you like quick access to pubs, cafes, and shops."

Pleased to see that the shower had been installed above the bath, which I didn't see from the picture when I booked in late 2023. Beware the church bell ringing at a most unreasonably early hour!

  • "The cottage was so lovely and cosy."

The location was amazing. Wooler is such a beautiful place. The only complaint we have is that the main bedroom mattress needs replacing, if you sleep on the left side (looking at the bed from the foot ), you find yourself rolling to the right. Other than that we had the best time and it was a home away from home. Thank you very much Kathy!!

but overall a well presented cottage in a fantastic location, the floor downstairs was ideal for dogs, the flowers biscuits and wine is a really nice touch and much appreciated, I will definitely recommend to friends. Thank you

Beds very comfy and lacked nothing in space and amenities. Dog very happy there too. Very central for visiting coastal towns in and around the Scottish Borders.

The little touches of milk in the fridge ,biscuits, wine and even fresh flowers were really appreciated, the only downside was the bed unfortunately we found it a little uncomfortable but it wouldn’t put us of staying again in fact we wished we could have stayed longer thank you

  • "The bed is creaky and the mattress too soft."

The sofa is small and not very comfortable. The towels need replacing. They are too small and could be better quality. The accommodation was clean (if a little dated) with plenty of cutlery and crockery. Wine and biscuits were a nice touch (unfortunately not to our taste). The large fridge freezer is a great idea. Parking is an issue as customers at the Co-op opposite tend to make use of the spaces. Perfect location for our weekend base as I ran the St Cuthberts Way Ultra Marathon. Ideal for a weekend break but if staying for more than 2 or 3 nights I would seek bigger accommodation.

Dear Yolander, thank you for giving me full marks for accuracy of listing and cleanliness. Well done for doing an almost 100 k run through the Cheviots and to Holy Island! I heard the fastest time was 14 hours! Yes, the extra fridge freezer is a bonus if you are staying longer. The mattress is good quality, and little over a year old with a memory foam topper. I am sorry it wasn't to your liking. The mattress in the other room doesn't have memory foam and might be more to your liking. I am sorry the wine and biscuits weren't to your liking. Many people who come to do long runs and cycle rides stay at the Youth Hostel. Have you been? The mattresses on the bunk beds are firmer; you wouldn't have a large bathroom with a bath, but you would have showers; the common room has plenty of large sofas; the situation isn't central, just a little walk up a hill to it; if you are cycling, they have bike sheds. Cindy and Carl are very helpful. I hope you have recovered from your run. It took me 5 days to walk it! Kathy Property Owner

Compact, well situated in the heart of the town but a good base for some superb walks from the flat, yet surprisingly quiet.

  • "The cottage is beautiful, homely and well maintained."

It contains all we needed. Its location is excellent with regard to access to shops, walks and local attractions, though parking nearby may be more difficult in peak season. The owner provided flowers, wine and biscuits, which was much appreciated, and a basket of leaflets on local things to see and do. It is a pretty nearly perfect holiday home; the only things I would have liked are a lighter duvet (15 tog is heavy in May, even for Northumberland!) and a warning about the church clock chiming all the hours, as some may not mind this but it affected our sleep quite a lot - our problem, not the house's! Luckily there is a cosy back bedroom...
