  • "This is a great place to stay, the cottage is spacious and well equipped with a terraced garden to the rear, secure for your dog."

The location is spot on as well, just a few minutes walk from the centre of Wooler and a great base for exploring the local area. The owners contacted us a week prior to our stay with info re the cottage and the local area. Highly recommended.

We were comfortable and had everything we needed to make our stay a pleasant one. There is some lovely outside space, only regret our weather not always the best for breakfast or evening drinks or dinner on the patio. There are some exceptional areas close by for walking and some local places selling good food.

Wooler is a quiet, friendly town with all the amenities you could want. It was ideally situated for us having country walks right on the doorstep but also easy access to the beautiful Northumberland coast. The cottage was very comfortable and very clean , a perfect place to relax after a day out. Thank you Jeff and Issie for all the useful information and for the delicious welcome gifts. We would definitely return to York cottage.

Parking not a issue as always a space literally around the corner . Garden did indeed have steep Steps to lower level but the enclosed patio area was lovely to sit and enjoy the view and bird life and was totally safe for our dogs to enjoy the sunshine . We were part of a larger family group that had booked Magpie cottage next door as well - the two together worked a treat . Much more affordable option than one big house. Would totally recommend and hope to return - many thanks.

A welcome pack of essentials was great after a long journey. The only downside was the very squeaky floorboards upstairs but we realise it is an old house! The garden would have been perfect to sit out in had it not rained so much!! Thanks to Jeff Issa and Belinda for all your help.

We settled in quickly, all facilities very simple to understand and use. A generous and thoughtful welcome pack. Garden a delight too - We enjoyed drinking coffee in the morning and wine at dusk on the patio, entertained by the antics and songs of a variety of birds. Wooler a great location - for walks, shops, pubs with good choice of ales, friendly cafes, chatty locals and much more. Not far from lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Coldstream and flodden field. • "The cottage is easy to find in Wooler, located on a lane just off the High Street, & very well placed to explore the village and local area."

The key is in a key safe & we parked outside to drop our things off & collected the parking agreement left inside to park at the no.1 hotel just a few yards down the lane. its just at the rear of the cottage's garden. The little car park Is gravelly, but its not noisy or busy & wont disturb. The cottage was absolutely spotless, a credit to the housekeeper who actually lived opposite. It was very old fashioned and could really do with upgrading. but it was comfortable and cosy, and we were warm when we needed to be. Had a clean and well equipped kitchen with brand new teatowels & cloths etc and a lovely welcome pack for us and the furry boys. Potential for the dining room to possibly have a bed settee in it, as only 2 bedrooms upstairs ? Lots of books & information provided to read up on the history of the area and what to see and do etc. The settte was really comfy as was the mattress on the double bed, one of the best we've slept on. We were aware it was a double when we booked, but was too small for us. So we put the two singles together in the other room to make a twin, which is an option & more comfortable room. Personally, the duvets were too thin in here for me & i felt still needed warmer ones for mid April, additional linens were provided. Some repairs are needed I have emailed the owner about, who was lovely in all correspondence, so I hope he takes these well meant as intended. They will prevent deterioration & improve the property & make stays more comfortable. The patio was too overgrown to sit out on. I would suggest it is fully cleared at the top, so you have more room & can fully enjoy the table & this area of an evening. The lower garden was far too overgrown to use, though the owner had prior apologised that it had been a struggle to cut due to the weather at this time of year. The steps down to it would not suit someone with any mobility issues or young children as described. Lots of birds to see. The bathroom had a brand new shower mat & towels provided but its in here that could probably do with the most attention. all linens were spotless. We turned the heating up for an hour on an evening or morning if we needed to, which was easy to do. Thoroughly recommend the sunday dinner in the no.1 hotel, one of the best we've had. Also had an amazing italian meal in Milan & the sandwich shop makes gorgeous if pricey sandwiches and scones to take out on your travels. All in all, we had a lovely stay in York cottage. The church bells still ring out and chime each hour which is a lovely sound from the past not often heard now. We were blessed with dry bright weather & it was a great base to explore the cheviot villages and also not that far from the coast. We love Northumberland. It's a home from home for us. Its just a beautiful stunning area and York cottage gave us place to lie our weary heads at a very reasonable price as northumberland is becoming increasingly expensive, especially pet friendly.

  • "Lovely cottage, very good for our dogs , the patio outside the kitchen door could maybe do with a good power wash as was a wee bit slippery, had a wee problem with netflix as while we were watching something on one of the five names they signed out and we couldn't get back on."

Might of been our fault though as not very techy. Garden shrubs could do with a good trim back and it would be a lovely garden to sit in . Amazing welcome pack for humans and dogs . Comfy bed, sofa etc. Enjoyed doing the jigsaws. Brilliant walks and a lovely town apart from the Chinese being closed due to selling and waiting on new owners taking over. Fantastic pre holiday phone call from the owner with information on walks, eateries etc.

We manage to pop to Bamburgh Castle, the Craft centre Coldstream the museum , Berwick upon tweed and Craigside the National trust property with a pleasant house and large grounds. If you look at google maps any area you see with good sandy beaches live up to if not exceed your expectations. The house itself is clean, comfortable and well equipped. Wooler has a bakery which is very convinient for picknicks and the holiday tradition of ignoring diets. I can recomend the steak pies. If you have never had battered fish cooked in dripping pop to Seahouses one portion with some chips is enough for 2 people. We were very fortunate with the weather and the information provided in the package at the house is great. Very happy holiday.

The back garden is small but private and a nice additional touch. Weaknesses: - lack of bin collection is a bit of a nuisance but we worked around that - lack of dedicate parking - we thought this would be an issue because we were told off by a lady on the evening we arrived when we parked in the only nearby space we could find because it was outside someone's house (no restriction signs etc.) As it turned out we never had a problem after that parking round the corner, but it would be much better if there was some arrangement for people staying in the cottage to have a dedicated space.

Mr Milburn probably labours under the illusion that everything is fine! Rubbish disposal was onerous - only one (small) receptacle in the whole house, and that was an ‘open’ bin in the kitchen not a peddle bin. Then we had to take the bag to a public street bin! Only one toilet roll supplied. All beds were most uncomfortable. The television was extremely poor quality and the freeview not fully functional. However the biggest concern relates to the heating. Our arrival was expected any time after 3pm, we arrived approximately 4.30. It was extremely cold and the heating control was still at 12 degrees! We immediately turned this to 23 degrees - it took THREE days to warm the whole house! The outside temperature on arrival was only 3 degrees, but a local resident was retained to manage and clean the property, so we expected that she would make sure the property was welcoming. Over many years we have rented holiday accommodation and never been as disappointed as we were with York Cottage.
