The Reading Room is an outstanding reverse-level house resting in Grindleford, Derbyshire.

Take the short drive over to the popular town of Bakewell, where you can sample the famous Bakewell Pudding, tour the Bakewell Old House Museum or venture over to the esteemed Chatsworth House with its decadent interior and landscaped gardens.

Hathersage 3 miles; Castleton 8 miles; Sheffield 11 miles.

The village of Grindleford is located in the valley of the River Derwent, within the Peak District National Park. Grindleford offers a church, a community shop and a church, whilst the village of Upper Padley, only a mile away has a railway station and café with direct trains to the city of Sheffield. Close by is Grindleford Walk, which starts at the train station and takes you through the wonderful Padley Gorge, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Longshaw Estate. At the start of the walk you will see Totley Tunnel, which at over three miles in length linked the Hope Valley with Sheffield. On the way you will walk through open moorland and past Longshaw Lodge, which was once a shooting lodge for the Duke of Rutland. Close by is the Parson House Outdoor Pursuits Centre, which is where you can enjoy a number of water and land based activities, including canoeing, climbing and orienteering. Three miles away is the village of Hathersage, which many people visit due to the churchyard and the grave of ‘Little John’ of Robin Hood fame. Also Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel Jane Eyre is thought to have been inspired by her visit to Hathersage vicarage in 1845, and there are good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat, as well as a public, open air heated swimming pool. Also in the area are Castleton, which is famous for its cavern’s, the town of Bakewell, the fabulous Chatsworth House and Sheffield, which is only 11 miles away. An excellent location for your Peak District holiday.
