Explore the medieval ruins of Ludlow Castle, dating back to 1094, and enjoy a picnic in the extensive well-kept grounds that envelop the fortress, or head to Ludlow Museum to discover the fascinating displays of local history.

Get better acquainted with your surroundings and venture off on foot to explore the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a remarkable stretch of countryside decorated in valleys, meadows and ancient woodlands, home to a fantastic selection of walking and cycling trails; join the Offa's Dyke Path through the tranquil Marches and cross the border into Wales, or hike to the summit of Bury Ditches, boasting panoramic views across the peaceful countryside from the top.

Venture further afield and visit the popular town of Shrewsbury where you can partake in the unique experience of touring the 18th century cells of Shrewsbury Prison, soak in the scenic views across the rooftops with a boat trip aboard the River Severn, or marvel at the captivating botanical garden at The Dingle, stretching over 29 acres of vibrant flowers; a lovely spot for a leisurely stroll.

The historic market town of Ludlow is situated on the River Teme, amidst the outstanding countryside of the Welsh Marches. With more than 500 listed buildings, the town provides a fascinating range of architecture including Ludlow Castle which is over 900 years old and is one of the first stone castles to be built in England. Today the castle is open all year round and hosts a wide range of events including outdoor theatre, food, art and literature festivals and many antique and art fairs. Below the castle, Millenium Green offers a large public riverside green and weir and provides excellent indoor and outdoor dining facilities via the Green Cafe located right on the riverside. Ludlow has held street markets since the twelfth century. Nowadays, a traditional open-air market takes place in the town square every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday throughout the year. More than forty stalls selling a range of goods including fresh produce, cheeses, books and a selection of local crafts are on offer with the 'Local to Ludlow' produce market some Thursdays and an Antique & Flea market some Sundays.
