  • "Parking was awkward."

We had two cars and had to park one of them off site. The electric gates open across where you can park one car and they take an age to close before you can park up. House would benefit from some tlc - new linen, lounge curtains. The chair in the lounge window needs throwing away. About a 15 minute walk into Ludlow.

  • "It's a lovely house in a great location with spectacular views across the valley."

It was very clean and comfortable, a nice size kitchen and the beds were comfortable. The house in general is in need of a little TLC as there are a few things that need fixing and the garden needs to be maintained. But we had everything we needed for our stay. The parking was a bit tricky and I have a smallish car. But it wasn't too bad. We really enjoyed our stay though and would recommend this house.

  • "The standard of all the beds was poor, resulting in uncomfortable nights sleep."

Several lamps were missing in both the bathroom and the en-suite, which made it particularly difficult for the men to shave as they were directly over the mirror. The lounge was very comfortable and inviting and the large kitchen diner was useful and well equipped. Found the heating difficult to control. A general check on the maintenance would benefit this property as a door to the closet on the landing was off it’s runner, and the wardrobe door in the main bedroom did not close. Other than these minor niggles the house was perfect for our stay, the main problem being the standard of the beds, as was mentioned throughout the visitors book.

  • "Very disappointed about cleaning issues which had to be raised with the owner and with Sykes."

Dirty bedlinen from previous clients left in bathroom. Spare bedlinen was in locked cupboard, when location of key was provided over phone by owner, there was insufficient to make up just one of the beds, so had to make do with the only clean single bed which was uncomfortable and with poor quality, rough bedlinen. Could not use bathroom for entire stay as it was full of dirty linen. A real shame as the house itself was good. Owner's attitude to Good Housekeeping Deposit was not exactly helpful either. For this reason, I would not recommend this property. Very annoying that these faults had been mentioned on a number of previous reviews and yet the problems remain. Do not think Sykes' attitude to customers is as positive as it used to be.

  • "Really nice property with lots of space, in a great location for the town and access to routes to other destinations."

Our only complaint would be that whoever is being paid to clean the property is not doing a full job, we found lots of dust, cigarette butts in the front garden, the back garden area clearly had not been swept. Also the bins and recycling boxes were almost full to the brim when we arrived. All of that is shame as the house is really nice. It would appear from messages left in the guest book that others had the same cleaning issues as we did

  • "We found this to be a well equipped and spacious house with pleasant views over Ludlow from lounge area."

We were able to walk into Ludlow from here. It did require walking uphill on the return journey but this wasn’t a problem for us. The bed we used was on the soft side but comfy for us. We enjoyed sitting outside at the table and chairs in the lower patio area of the garden but also on the decking on the higher level accessed by steps and a slope. There is parking for a small car to the side of the house and parking for a larger vehicle ( in our case VW Touran) directly in front of the lounge window. We don’t know if you could get two cars parked at the property at the same time as we only tried the family car. There is a bit of concentration and manoeuvring required to ensure your parked car does not cause issues for vehicles leaving the gated community as the security gates are very close to the property and actually somewhat restrict the manoeuvring. . The owner provides plenty of tourist information and information about appliances and emails in advance regarding key collection arrangements and his expectations of guests. The efficiency with communications prior to our holiday was not quite as good once we were there. We had an issue regarding the standard of the change over cleaning of the property which we made the owner aware of during the first day of our holiday and we eventually (on the Monday after we vacated the property ) received acknowledgement of this and an assurance that it would be looked into. There is a long time allocated to the changeover clean ( presumably in view of Enhanced Covid cleaning measures) which requires guests to arrive after 4 pm and leave by 9am so we were disappointed to find that on this occasion it had not been carried out as thoroughly as might be expected. Overall we found this to be a good property and we enjoyed staying at it.

  • "The car gates into the gated community are a pain - when they are open, they take ages to close and sometimes don't do so at all."

When the gates are open it is very difficult to get into the parking space. When leaving, you have to let yourself out of the pedestrian gate, (code required), to put in the car gate code from the outside as the car sensor on the inside is not working. It is not possible to park 2 cars there - we have an ordinary sized car, not a 4 by 4 or a ute or any such thing and there is no way that you could get 2 in. Poor quality bed linen. This is a house for 5; there we 3 of us. There were towels for 3. I would expect towels for 5 as we paid for a house for 5.

The parking for 2 cars is accurate so don't be put off by some review comments stating "only 2 small cars". We parked an Audi A6 and Nissan X-Trail (both bigger than average) without any difficulty - you just have to park carefully!

Very well appointed kitchen. Two bathrooms plus an extra toilet very handy for a group of friends. Beds fairly comfortable but pillows were awful - need replacing with something softer and fluffier- wouldn’t cost much.

  • "The "cottage" was comfortable and well equipped."

A minor point was that the kitchen was on the dark side. On the other hand the bedside lighting was excellent, I like reading in bed and this is one of the few holiday lets that provided good lighting. The views of the Parish Church, Castle and the hill were excellent. I have two significant concerns - first is that although it is correct to say that there are two parking places it would be difficult to park two cars in the spaces unless one was small. The second was the Good Housekeeping deposit. Having paid this I was asked by the owner to supply details of my bank account for refund - I do not think that this is a satisfactory procedure. Further although two weeks have now elapsed from the end of our holiday I have neither received repayment nor any reasons for this. I accept that we broke a cafetiere which we replaced with the only one we could find in Ludlow which was certainly of less quality than that in the house.
