  • "Hot tub was not to temperature."

Dvd player did not work. Fridge smelt like off milk. Arga was substandard and did not cook food well. Light switch in kitchen broken. Not enough hot water for 8 guests. Only left 3 dish washing tablets, for 3 nights for eight guests - then deducted £40 in bond when house was left "messy". Did not communicate with client that £40 of bond was being deducted, client had to reach out to check why. Private road upto property has multiple pot hols, causing damage to 1 car. We are eight girls in our 30s, we hire a property every year off Sykes Cottages. We have never had issues with Bonds not being returned before. We feel the property should advertise to family's if they do not like to hire to same sex young clients. Also I feel if money is being deducted it is the responsibility of the property owners to reach out to the client to info them, and explain reasons behind deductions. Not for client to see this on their bank statement.

Very clean and spacious for our group of 7. Beds were really comfy. Unfortunately it rained quite a bit during our stay but that did not dampen our stay here at all. The hot tubs was really lovely. Only downside I want to mention that some of us did find it a bit cold, especially in the morning, we were not able to adjust the heating. All in all I would definitely recommend this place, it was really lovely and inviting. The owners were lovely and helpful. We will be returning!

Advertised a welcome pack but we never received one. Also would be nice if owner could supply extra logs at a charge to save having to go out and buy uneconomical logs at garage or supermarket . Otherwise it was all as advertised and we had a wonderful stay.

Thank you Phil for taking the time to leave a review, we are delighted you had a great Christmas stay! We really enjoyed decorating the barn for you. Unfortunately we can no longer provide a food hamper for each stay due to allergies and dietary requirements, instead we try to provide as many essential items for your arrival as we can (toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets, tea , coffee , sugar, hand wash, bubble bath etc). As for the firewood, we provide two baskets of complementary firewood, unfortunately the barn is a self catering property so we cannot provide items for the duration of your stay. Thank you again for choosing our property and we wish you a happy new year. Many thanks Property Owner

Kris and Michelle were on hand next door for any queries but not intrusive in any way. The hot tub was large and well maintained. There was an abundance of crockery, cutlery and glassware (and plastic ware for eating and drinking outside). The kitchen is large and well appointed. We made use of the additional sofas dotted around the property. The living room was lovely and large with super comfy sofas. We travelled to lots of local attractions (Yorkshire wildlife park, the Forbidden corner, Diggerland and Castle Howard). A perfect staycation.

  • "I feel that what we were charged for 3 nights was far in excess as compared to the facilities available."

    1. The power in the shower was abysmal. In fact my kids never used the 2nd bath cos the water was coming in drops so to speak. They said it was diabolical. So all of us used the master bathroom for a shower. I did not check. I used the master bedroom and shower. Not at all happy with shower. 2. Proper toiletries not provided. We had to buy even toilet tissue role as only one was provided. 3. We had to remove all bedding covers, pillow covers, duvet covers etc etc. After paying a pretty penny I believe it shud not be our job to do so.

Thank you Tasnim for taking time to leave us a review, I am so sorry your stay was not what you expected. Unfortunately we cannot provide everything in the holiday let as it is self catered, we try to help our guests out by providing a starter pack and a list of everything provided. As for the main bathroom we do ask all our guests to contact us regarding any issues or queries so we can aim to fix them, we were not aware of any issues regarding the main bathroom prior to your stay. We do feel that we offer a lot of facilities , therefore we are deeply sorry that you do not feel this way. Property Owner

The only negative was how hot the kitchen was because we had to leave the Rayburn on all the time. One small point for Kris and Michelle was made by my dad who is not so steady on his feet. He felt the wooden end of the stair at the landing was a hazard if you weren't watching. We put something in front of it so we had to walk walk round it. Thanks again, a lovely relaxing break

We had the most amazing weekend celebrating my 40th birthday. Do not let the fact it’s attached to the owner’s property put you off as it really isn’t an issue it does not impact on your stay what so ever, you are barely attached and the holiday home faces in the opposite direction so it’s really like a house on its own with a lovely view. Facilities are fantastic and I literally could have sat in the hot tub all day lol good out at the view ! Already booked again for next year

Our party was made up of 4 adults and 3 children under 5, And We all had the best time, The house exceeded our hopes, plenty for the children to do from admiring the animals on the surrounding land and playing in the garden, to just playing in the house exploring. The kitchen was fabulous and a delight to cook in. And there was plenty of space all round the house to not get in the way of each other. Michelle the owner was on hand for any questions (though not needed as the welcome pack had plentiful answers) but she was also very kind to provide us with more logs (for a charge of corse) but also gave us fresh eggs from her hens (made some scrummy omelettes) I can’t recommend the place enough, the perfect get away from busy life and just relaxing with a view of fields and animals ❤️❤️ Thanks to the owners for a great week! We visited digger land whilst there which was a lot of fun for the kids and adults so would recommend if you’re visiting with children as it’s only a short drive.

.. Extremely spacious , yet cosy ! This property exceeded our expectations. We knew it would be big but it was far larger than expected, especially the master bedroom .. which was amazing. The property and surroundings were simply stunning and tranquil. A wonderful place for a family get together. In our case it was to host my 50th birthday ! Three sets of adults and a couple and grandchildren for the weekend and then my partner and I for the rest of the week .. it was just perfect and suited us all. The log burning fire and the large outdoor hot tub provided many relaxing nights after long walks in fresh weather ( December 2018 ) ... Family meals around the large dining table in the beautiful open kitchen, cooking on the aga was also an experience. Enough bedrooms to host us all too. And a games room for the children to play. The owners left a lovely welcome pack, a starter kit for the fire and the lovely little touches around the property made our stay comfortable and welcoming. Felt like we were in the middle of nowhere with stunning views and animals surrounding .. but only a few miles drive to the nearest supermarket or pub. York is not too far to visit and is also stunning with its Cathedral, shops, places to eat and drink , and beautiful old streets ( The Shambles ) . We had an amazing time and hope we are fortunate to go back in the not too distant future
