  • "Lovely place very central to lots of country houses and parks."

Very convenient for a takeaway and nearby shops. Cottage had plenty of home comforts a shame we didn’t know about the dog parafinalia as brought our own which took up a bit a space in the car. I would suggest that instructions for all the electrical appliances was made available as all are different. The only negative was the sofa nearest the TV should be on the back wall as was difficult to watch where it was placed and gave you neck ache so needed to reposition it. Overall would recommend it to friends and family.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. We always try to make the cottage homely and especially welcome owners and their dogs. The bowls, spare lead, emergency tins of dog food and throws are there for the occasional guest who forgets an item or two in packing. We’re always happy for guests to rearrange the furniture to suit their needs and are pleased you felt free to do this. Property Owner

Plenty of soft towels, kitchen equipment and storage. The location is handy for local shops and exploring with a dog, Bolsover, Hardwick Hall, Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park are nearby and the walks straight from the cottage along the linear park take you to interesting places, loved Cresswell Craggs. The property is small but was big enough for us 3. It is rather dated and would benefit from a upgrade of furniture and shower. Close to shops which was a benefit and a park next door. Owner left us milk etc for our arrival which was a nice touch.

We are sorry everything was not to your wishes. The rooms are actually well above standard size for a two bedroom cottage and the furniture has been recently purchased from Marks and Spencer and John Lewis, and many other guests have been kind enough to find it worthy of praise. We wish you well in finding properties more suited to your needs in future. Property Owner

Very well equipped kitchen and both bed and sofas were comfortable (a rare find!) Tea, coffee, milk and biscuits were left for us on arrival which is always a nice touch. Property was very clean and well maintained. Front garden area -where you can park your car - is slabs and flower beds, which proved to be a slight problem when it rained as our dog then got very muddy feet everytime we let her out (she won't toilet on slabs so was having to use the soil areas) Luckily we always take a microfiber towel so could clean them off before she reached the cream carpet. Very well placed for a lot of adventures. Nice walk starts just 100 yrds away and plenty of places to drive to locally. Also a very short walk to supermarkets, takeaways and pubs.

  • "Very misleading."

The photos must be outdated as they resemble nothing like the actual property…i.e front garden overgrown could just get car on to park. Not the same table and chairs in yard. Place could do with complete overall.. Dirty walls , banister ,staircase skirting boards..the shower rail was a disgrace and the toilet seat was a disgusting pee yellow colour. My wife would not get a shower or sleep in the bed. We stopped 1 night and went home..we have been on several Holidays with yourself (Sykes) but this property as let you down…

Thank you for your feedback. As is clearly documented below in the previous 32 reviews plus 6 on Booking.com, the above review is an anomaly. We are very sorry that Mr Appleyard left a day early and wish him every success in finding accommodation more to his taste in the future. In our opinion, the property is accurately reflected on Sykes website. The garden has matured into a genuine cottage garden affording greater privacy as well as interest with flowers, fruit bushes, birds, butterflies and bees, and even the occasional squirrel. It is a delightful place to sit out in good weather with many guests enjoying picnics and barbecues. Most guests are delighted to find ample off-road parking which is still exactly as in the photographs. The garden furniture in the photographs was beginning to show signs of wear and has been upgraded with superior replacements. The main rooms have been redecorated in the last 12 months and some facilities have also been upgraded; the Smart television, washing machine and fridge/freezer are all improvements on the good quality goods they replaced. We constantly renew bedding from quality sources. All bedding for this particular visit was brand new. The staircase is due for re-decoration which would have already happened (paint etc purchased and time off work arranged) for the week commencing 9th July but we received a last-minute booking which we felt bound to honour. The cottage is deep-cleaned weekly at every changeover. It is a property we are immensely proud of and the very many positive reviews show it to be a clean, comfortable and delightful place to spend time. We take complaints seriously and will address them directly and respect everybody’s right to an opinion. We feel however, that the 38 very positive reviews more accurately reflect the real Dove Cottage. The owners. Property Owner

When we arrived, the first we noticed was how clean the house was which in the current times was much appreciated. The kitchen is extremely well stocked and has everything you could need. In the lounge there is two comfy sofas and a smart tv. Both bedrooms were really well furnished with comfortable beds and high quality bedding. The only thing I would mention is I think the twin beds are slightly smaller than a standard single bed (maybe 2ft6 instead of 3ft?). This was ok though as we pushed the two singles together. Compact bathroom but great shower and lovely toiletries. Would highly recommend this house to anyone. It is in a great location just 5 minutes from the M1 and in the centre of the town but very peaceful and quiet. Coming from the city, it was so nice to hear the birds in the morning instead of the traffic! • "Lovely cottage in a great location."

Shopping for food was easy and plenty of other shops too. Easy to take the dogs out for their morning and evening walks as we were right next to the local dog walking area. The owners of the cottage were fantastic, welcoming, warm and extremely accommodating. I will most certainly go back again and I have already recommended this particular cottage to friends.
