  • "A very enjoyable stay, extremely comfortable and exceptionally well equipped."

Although the road noise was always present, residing next to an airport prepares me for most outside noises. As indicated by previous occupants, the poor tv reception was a disappointment. Working away on business, television is a key provision. Thank you for your hospitality.

  • "Excellent place to stay to attend an event at Bolsover Castle (and also to visit the very many interesting places in the surrounding area)."

The barn is beautifully converted with stylish furniture and fittings and this made for a very comfortable stay. The only problems we had were with the TV aerial reception, which hopefully should be easily fixed, and some noise from the busy road outside. You do need to be good at reading instructions to get all the wonderful electronic systems to work - from the aircon, to the Sonos music system, the cooker and microwave, the electric piano and the security gates, but if you're a gadget fan, you'll love it! BTW, it would be nice if the timer on the automatic light in the bathroom could be adjusted so it didn't go off part way through a shower, leaving you waving your hands around in the darkness! Our daughter and partner joined us for a couple of days and it was a very tight fit for four adults (maybe an eventual rethink of the lounge seating as there isn't enough room for four adults to all sit down at the same time). Also, there's no privacy, as the bedroom and living area are open plan, but this is fine for a short period if you know each other well enough and you're out most of the time anyway.

  • "We have just returned from a fantastic week at Whites Barn that we used as a base to explore the Peak District."

Everything was as described with all equipment and furnishings up to a high standard. The day before we arrived we received all relevant information from the owners that both helped us and gave us some further ideas for days out and places to eat. The owners also checked in with us a couple of times in the week just to make sure we were ok. If you are after a lovely and well presented property for two, look no further than Whites Barn. We will return and also happy to recommend to other.

  • "This holiday home was so comfortable and well-equipped and in a great position to explore the area."

Lots of thought had gone into making sure we could enjoy our break in comfort with lots of additional extras such as air conditioning and underfloor heating. Everything was beautifully done. We felt very spoilt by the welcome pack and the owners sent a thoughtful text message mid-week just to make sure everything was OK. We would certainly recommend it.

  • "This our first stay with Sykes Cottages and also in the Peak District."

We were kept fully up-to-date with instructions, emails and text messages from Sykes and also the owner. On arrival we extremely impressed with everything about the Barn. The owners had very kindly left a welcome pack and also fridge essentials. The cottage is extremely well located for many of the local attractions. We visited Hardwick Hall and Clumber Park (both National Trust). We also visited Chatsworth House which is a must. Bakewell and Newark are both lovely villages to visit. If you want retail therapy the East Midlands Shopping Outlet is nearly. We had dinner at pubs which were recommended by the host, namely the Devonshire Arms, The Elm Tree and the Hardwick Inn, all of which were great meals. If you fancy a bacon roll and coffee or even cake, you can walk to the local garden centre (5 mins away) which is lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Whites Barn and would definitely recommend it. Many thanks to our hosts Peter and Joanne.

The house is stunning, beautifully decorated and very cozy, making us feel like we were home from home. Whites Barn was the ideal base for us to explore Peak District giving us a beautiful haven to rest after a long day outdoors. We can’t thank Joanne and Peter enough for all the hospitality they’ve extended, right from the welcome hamper and fridge stocked with essentials to helpful tips to explore/ eat out and always being ready at hand to respond to any queries we had. A big ‘Thank You’ to Joanne and Peter for the lovely home they shared with us to create beautiful memories as a family

  • "A lo of time and love has been put into Whites' Barn to create this exceptional accommodation."

The Barn is an ideal location for Sherwood Forest; the stately homes of Chatsworth, Bolsover and Hardwick; with a convenient bus stop for the regular service to Sheffield and Chesterfield. The spectacular Castleton Caverns are less than an hour away. As well as the superior accommodation, what is most heartening is the solicitous welcome of the exceptional hosts, Peter and Joanne, with a welcoming hamper and their desire to see that their guests have a memorable stay. Highly recommend this hi-tech, hi-spec experience!

  • "Gorgeous property with everything you could need."

The owners (Peter and Joanne) are very helpful and easily contactable had we had any problems (which we didn't).They have clearly put a lot of thought and care into Whites Barn with lots of high quality finishing touches and luxuries. The welcoming hamper was very much appreciated, with everything we could have needed for our first breakfast, sweet treats plus a bottle of prosecco! We took our two little boys with us who were very comfortable on the sofa bed, while we were in our little sanctuary upstairs, there was plenty of room for all of us. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back soon! Thank you!

  • "My wife and myself have been avid global travellers (especially pre-children), and whenever possible, prefer to stay in self-catered accommodation."

One thing that we still look forward to is when a property gives us the wow-factor and Whites' Barn is certainly one of them. What made this more special was probably because the lifting of the tightest restrictions of lockdown, most places were getting booked up all over the UK so we were struggling to find something for a family of four. Fortunately we found this through Sykes Cottages and it looked great from the photos, but when we arrived it was even better. From the welcome basket, to the available gadgets (Spotify on Sonos, access to smart TV's, Velux windows etc.) plus the rainhead shower, beautiful kitchen and the wonderful open plan design which meant that despite being a small building it felt so much larger when inside. Our only worry was our two year old doing any damage to the pristine interior (which fortunately he didn't :) ). Hardwick Hall is walking distance away with the Hardwick Inn a worthy visit, plus Bakewell and Chatsworth House are definitely worth the 25 minute drive to visit. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this to any of our friends when taking a break in the Peak District.
