  • "A lovely welcome pack awaited our arrival."

The building was warm and cosy. A true home from home. The view over the countryside was something special. Local wild birds were fed daily and were a joyt to watch Our dogs enjoyed short walks around the grounds and longer freedom walks were just a short drive away, The book of local tourist sites and places to visit was very useful. We look forward to a return visit.

It was too complicated to understand so we gave up. Arrived tired and in the rain, and a cosy, warm inside would have been lovely. Very generous welcome pack.

  • "The entrance gate could do with some improvement even if only new string that is long enough."

The apple trees need some pruning. A 4x4 would be bouncing apples off the sides as it drove in. The lounge/kitchen floor needs looking at to remove the creaking wherever you tread.

  • "I have given 4 stars only because I was disappointed that the loo seat is still very loose and wobbly."

As it has been mentioned several times in reviews I think it should be repaired before someone has an accident. And, just as advice to other dog owners: there are several small gaps under the garden hedge so it is not totally enclosed. Apart from this, we had a great time. It's a lovely cottage and we hope to visit again.

Everything was perfect, clean, cosy, warm , peaceful and everything you need is there. Lovely extras too, big bowl of fruit, bottle of fresh apple/pear juice made on site, coffee bags and milk. The owners are very welcoming and helpful, yet leave you to your own privacy for your stay. Lovely countryside walks from the cottage, which both myself and dog enjoyed. Overall one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in. Thank you for a relaxing lovely week, we hope to return .

  • "Positive - Lovely scenery from outdoor dining table, great for eating outside when not too chilly."

    - Owners were very nice & friendly and came to fix the indoor dining table next morning( wasn't completely fixed but usable) - Good heating, was warm and cosy. Negative - Very tight entrance to the cottage and parking not ideal. Needs fixing - Very easy to miss the property, if missed you get taken down a horrible narrow road of pot holes, mud and branches which is a nightmare for a low profile car. - Loose toilet seat - Tried to adjust the dining table for more space and one leg fell off, leaving us holding the table in place so it doesn't break. - Mould on shower wall.

! We really appreciated being able to bring our Springer Spaniel - she loved walking around your Vineyard!! The cottage was incredibly private, the bed was extremely comfortable, the under floor heating amazing and having Netflix on the television in the bedrom was the icing on the cake!! You were truly generous with all the 'goodies' in the kitchen - your wonderful Apple Juice, biscuits, heaps of fruit and all the tea, coffee etc we could possibly need - amazing!! We'd really love to stay again one day - a huge thank you!! Jill and Brett

  • "The property needs a little bit of ongoing maintenance in order to be used regularly by guests."

For example the toilet seat is very loose and should be tightened occasionally. The sofa isn't particularly comfortable and the lounge table is rickety and is too big and in the wrong place to enable easy access to the rear garden. The front garden is dog proof but the rear hedge has a hole that our elderly dog with dementia found and decided to take himself for a walk. Appreciate that it's an old building but there are lots of splats on the walls and blinds where people have squashed spiders and flies and this makes the place look a little dirty. Lastly the kitchen cupboards weren't very well equipped with utensils. Other than this constructive criticism, it's a lovely place to stay.

The welcome basket on arrival was an excellent addition. Postcode didn't quite get us to the right place but fortunately the directions from the owner were easy to follow. Garden isn't fully secure for dogs so keep an eye on your dog. There are some very noisy roosters that like to wake you up early in the morning!

A lovely welcome pack was waiting for us on arrival and the cottage was nice and warm. Their home is in close proximity to the cottage but we never felt any loss of privacy, to the contrary as my husband had surgery at a nearby hospital it was a comfort to know they were on hand should we have needed anything. The cottage is really well equipped, very easy to live in and situated in a lovely area. We could not have asked for anything better it was just perfect for us.

Accommodated our requests at all times. Felt safe, despite COVID. Very well equipped kitchen!! The vineyard location & roaming chickens were lovely. The driveway gates were a little bit of a pain in the rain, and our wide car was a tight squeeze on the driveway. The bath towels were rather small - would have preferred bath sheets. Everything was spotlessly clean. We requested another chair from the owners before our arrival, which was provided for no extra cost. I spoke to the owners several times during our stay, each time they asked if we were happy and did we need anything. They are friendly, approachable but without encroaching on your privacy. The views from the cottage were amazing, and we enjoyed watching the birds from the decking area bird feeder. The only negative I can give is the sofa is not at all comfortable, however this would not stop us from staying again. Bowlers yard is an ideal location for exploring the area, in the welcome pack there are lots of ideas for days out and places to see. We will definitely be back again.

It was a home away from home, and being greeted with fresh fruit, flowers, coffee and biscuits was a superb touch. We didn’t need anything; all of the basics were provided including dishwasher tablets, washing machine detergent, hand soap, all of the little thoughtful things that you need when you are away from home. The house was warm and cosy in the middle of winter and the kitchen was a dream to cook in; and it was very private. Even including lovely tea pots! And the bed and linen were incredibly comfortable and lovely quality after having stayed in other short stays as part of our UK trip where the sheets were awful and cheap! Very happy with our stay, wouldn’t change it for the world! Looking forward to our next visit! Thanks Bowler Yard for making part of our Christmas holiday stay wonderful and warm!

With two cats and an elderly Mum, it could have been quite stressful but having this beautiful, peaceful cottage to return to every day meant the move was really smooth. It was truly a home from home and offered a wonderful sense of calm and comfort - a real life saver. We were made to feel so welcome with a lovely hamper and fresh flowers. The cottage was beautifully appointed and felt relaxing and happy, surrounded by countryside views and the vineyards. Not to mention a couple of chatty chickens by the car. It was safe, very comfortable and offered a true sanctuary from the stress of moving house. Impressed by the well-planned open space as well as the amount of good quality kitchen equipment; yet still enough space for food storage (lack of food storage space is a too frequent problem in many holiday properties). Very comfortable beds, and a well stocked library of books and DVDs. It is in a quiet rural location with the relaxing sounds of birds with bucolic views over fields from the sunny patio and decked area, and set in a vineyard with free-roaming chickens. The on-site vineyard owner Johnathon is a very enthusiastic winemaker. He gave us a tour and tasting and the rest of the bottle to finish later. Easy access to several National Trust or English Heritage properties and other attractions, as well as trails through Sherwood Forest.
