Well maintained, modern and comfortable. Probably not the easiest of locations but the views from the front door make up for that. We had come over from the USA for Christmas and New Year to visit family. Would definitely recommend this property to others and would book again. A hidden gem!!

  • "Absolutely beautiful house with amazing views over the countryside."

When I walked in it was just WOW! There was everything and more you needed for a stay. Lovely touches like tea cofffee sugar and milk and a lovely bread and even a bottle of wine and even some treats and a bowl of water for my little doggy. The owners were on hand and came round right away when I couldn’t figure how to work the TV to help me. ( my own fault completely as it’s an internet tv and once I was helped to figure it out there was so much choice of things to watch with films and normal tv, series and so much! Everything is top of the range and so luxurious xx The beds are so comfortable. The rooms are really spacious and the whole place is immaculate xx Little Boo the owners doggy is adorable and her and my little dog Jack made friends right away she is such a good little dog and her and jack played outside a few times as I encouraged her to do so. Jack watched for her passing by so he could go out to her! There are lovely walks over the fields to take your dog and the walk down the lane to Etherow Country Park which is only a mile away and being a well kept single track lane it’s safe to walk down. I took my little dog to get away from the fireworks for bonfire night and you could still hear them but nothing like as bad as at home and the cottage walls are so thick, with the TV on you couldn’t hear them too much and my little dog settled right away. It’s an amazing place to get away from everything and the owners Vicky and her husband couldn’t have been more welcoming. It was lovely to chat with them about the place which is 200 years old and was a barn for the cattle originally and the original features like the vent holes in the walls which are now little windows keeping the history of the place so tastefullly done. It is the most gorgeous place I have stayed at and cannot wait to go back again. At night time you could hear the hoots of owls in the distance which was amazing xxThank you for an amazing little holiday with my little dog Jack xx

Beautiful location with views of the hills and surrounding countryside as well as being very clean, cosy and thoughtfully decorated. We stayed as a family with our dog, and the field opposite the cottage was safe and secure to take him (although please note this field is also used for livestock at different points), plenty of open space all around for walks though. Kitchen is well equipped and the welcome tray of bread, wine and dog biscuits are a nice touch! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in a stunning location.

The Barn was fully equipped with everything you could need and the welcome pack of bread, wine, milk, flowers and dog treats was a lovely gesture. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Amazing friendly hosts who went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Some previous visitors have commented on the access but we went out every day and never encountered another vehicle coming up the lane. We live in Cornwall and are quite used to having to reverse and pull into passing places! Would definitely recommend this property for a relaxing peaceful holiday.

Lovely welcome hamper and all amenities - like dishwasher tablets etc provided. There were just a few issues The shower room en-suite shower was quite weak and would not get as hot as we would have liked. I think it may have been stronger in the the en-suite with the bath but my children said that shower was not that hot either. The un made road we were warned about but it that could get properly tarmac over that would be a great improvement. Otherwise lovely

  • "Very awkward to give constructive feedback on a Holiday Home that has been put together with such passion and thought, I can guarantee you that everything has been done with a lot of careful thought, virtually everything you could possibly need has been catered for, if I was to rate the whole experience it would be 5star plus, the only criticism I could make would be to emphasise ALL NO ACCESS SIGNS ARE TO BE IGNORED!"

!!! as we got to one sign in the dark when looking for the Barn which is Baddeley worded, to the point it is saying No access to the Barn, this caused us to turn round and retrace the route, only to find the left fork we were initially looking for was just 100 mtrs past this sign. I would highly recommend this accomodation, superb for four people, and well situated for all local amenities, including if you so wish to walk the area. This is a real Gem and a credit to its owners.

Excellent facilities where available to use, Cooker, microwave, clean and easy to use, bit difficult for a short person to reach the top shelf of the fridge but otherwise excellent. Bedrooms where arranged how we requested and everything was clean with plenty of storage for clothes. Towels where available and lovely and fluffy, Shower was brilliant, hot water almost instant and liked the smaller shower as well as the waterfall one. You do need to be careful driving up the lane, it is a single track so oncoming vehicles and also pedestrians can suddenly appear and there are limited places for pull in's. Host was available for any queries and very approachable both before arrival and during our stay.

Second time around, this time with bonus, springy, cuddly Lambs. The cottage is super-comfortable and the owners and their family are warm-hearted and helpful. Great views, walks from the house, plus lots to explore via train or car. You can access the Etherow-Goyt way from the cottage via the Drovers Track and across to Beacom Farm to start of the Langendale Trail (PDF on line). The canals are great for easy kayaking/SUP with storage space in the Shed. A word of warning, not related to the Barn itself in any way - the BP garage in Romily charges £33.99 for a litre of oil - a mark up is OK -but at 3 times normal price I was anticipating inclusion of the Koh-I-Nor. Many thanks for a great stay again. Say hi to the woolly and feathered ones for me.

You can see you have furnished with only the best quality fittings, furniture and furnishing and we would love to come again in the summer. We did try to respect the fact it was such a lovely barn so tried to leave it as close to how we found it. It sounds such a simple thing but the fact that lights had been left on for our arrival in the dark made all the difference. The Barn was also lovely and cosy for our arrival, again greatly appreciated after having driven from Scotland and the temperature being low. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and we will definitely be booking again for the summer so that we can explore further afield. We had the unfortunate luck to be involved in an accident in the snow on the way back to The Barn the evening before our departure and would have been lost without Vicky and her husband. We were abandoned by our insurance company in the dark and snow with freezing temperatures and Vicky's husband drove down to pick us up and take us up to The Barn. He also drove us to our daughter's in Stockport the following morning. They could not have done more to help us and we are extremely grateful for all their help.

There were chickens, sheep and cows which our son loved! The hosts were very accommodating and approachable. They left a welcome note and water bowl for our dog and dropped some salt in for the farm eggs we had picked up from down the lane. The property had recently been refurbished to a high standard with tasteful decor and top-rated appliances. The reason why I have scored the property a 7 was that it was not compliant with fire regulations for the paying guest. However, I do not want to detract from the lovely property and the stay we had at The Barn. I provided the hosts with some goodwill advice and was confident that they would address what was required.

The Barn is in a beautiful location and the building has been renovated to preserve interesting features eg the little windows but is still light, clean, airy and warm with great views - you don't even need to step outside. We weren't that lucky with the weather or with the fuel situation - but still had a grand time as there are lots of walks from the Barn itself or from nearby villages and it is a lovely place to just stay-in too. Train stations are a short drive away. Fantastic storage for toys such as kayaks/bikes!
