The house was well equipped for the needs of all our party. Thank you for the kitchen welcome pack and the various added extras around the house. Ample towels for use both in the house (white) and the hot tub (orange). Younger family members enjoyed, and made good use of, the hot tub. To get in via the rear entrance we needed to go across the courtyard to the keysafe in the garage. Someone in an adjoining property told us that the courtyard wasn't supposed to be used by The Bothy guests (beyond a line of large flowerpots) therefore that keysafe wouldn't be available - even if the code had been correct for us. The range cooker was very slow to heat up. The Bothy was very well equipped for a large group. The setting was beautiful, peaceful and definitely worth another holiday there.

The living room had enough space for us all to sit comfortably in the evening, likewise in the dining area. The hot tub was a great bonus, especially with the gorgeous views. It certainly was an enjoyable way to end each day watching the sun go down! The bedroom set-up was perfect for our group. However, it is worth noting that one bedroom has a single bed and another accommodated three guests with one single bed and a super king that was kindly separated into two singles by the housekeeper. All the staff we encountered when they were tending to the hot tub were friendly and gave helpful advice on the local area. A perfect and memorable stay! Thank you

  • "As a positive the Bothy is a beautiful home nestled in beautiful countryside, it’s very well equipped and has the most amazing views - my only negative is an issue with the maintenance of the hot tub each morning around 8am, I can fully understand that maintenance and checks need to be done but on our 2nd morning at the Bothy the head housekeeper did the check and we were advised as due to a pair of swimming goggles being left by the hot tub (I can assure you these were not actually used in the hot tub) that she had the authority to not permit us to use it for the remainder of our stay, she then proceeded to test the water and subsequently placed a notice on the hot tub not to use until after 12pm due to chemicals being added to the water, which I can understand but it was the manner in which the message was relaid to us."

The big BUT is that this house is not made for 6 couples, and this is NOT made clear enough. One room had a double plus a single & one was a box room that would only fit a single in. The small double had the boiler in which was so loud when hot water was needed, it had to be switched off at times - not convenient.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you liked the setting of The Bothy. To address your other points, I am very sorry that you felt our rooming is not clear on the Sykes website. It does state the room set-up very clearly and exactly what the accommodation comprises of, which I did explain when this was questioned. We made every effort to accommodate your group regardless by suggesting alternatives. The boiler in the small double room has had a switch installed for the very reason you mention with a sign advising you can switch it off if too noisy. I gather the switch was used during your stay. Contact with the owner was very easy and local staff were very helpful and responded quickly. We enjoyed being able to go out for beautiful walks direct from the cottage and the views are amazing - especially from the very luxurious hot tub. Well worth a visit is Knowsley Safari Park which provided much amusement for the children, both young and old. I don’t think I have ever been to another holiday home where the kitchen was so equipped. The hot tub was the reason why we chose the bothy and the views from it were amazing. We all took it turns to use the hot tub as only 4 allowed in it at a time, which worked really well for our family. We didn’t realise you had to be over 5years old to use a hot tub but this was not a problem for us as we got a paddling pool for the 2 year old. Towels for the hot tub was a real bonus. This was a last minute holiday only booked the week before because of covid but it was amazing, everyone was so helpful and could not have asked for more. Excellent location, lovely walks. Pubs nearby were excellent, the closest was closed so we drove to the Ship and the Rose, both where superb. Host was contactable and quickly replied with any issues, our only issue was the batteries for Xbox controllers, as we didn't have any ourselves and there wasn't any in controllers, but cleaner dropped some off (it was a rainy day so teenage sons wanted to play it) and we found the spares that were already in the house on the last day in the secret drawers on dining side of kitchen unit. WIFI was not great in lounge, but ok in rest of house. Would thoroughly recommend and will be going back with friends as soon as we are allowed.

Audrey made us feel very welcome with a few essentials, tickets for Knowsley Safari and a sweet birthday card for my 40th. We went to the local distillery for gin tasting which was excellent and made the most of the local area for pubs and outdoor places to visit (like the caverns and Dovedale). Every single one of us struggled to find the house though so directions are tricky- I wouldn’t recommend in the dark! The Hot tub was lovely under the stars but really dirty by day 5. The water was ok but the hot tub itself was really slimy and far from clean round the edges. Beds were super comfy, we appreciated the thick curtains and black out blinds. The fire in the living room was cosy on an evening and the heating etc easy enough to use. The Wi-fi however- DO NOT expect to be able to watch anything apart from Free View. We couldn’t get anything like Netflix to work. Our phones struggled to connect aswell and were mostly on 4G despite being in the house. At a time like this (during Covid) I didn’t like the table cloth in the kitchen which can’t be removed. We struggled to clean it and keep it sanitised through the week. With two small kids it was a near impossible task. Overall though the house was well equipped, clean, and very homely. We enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your feedback - it really helps us to improve. We have now upgraded our wi-fi throughout the Bothy so the speeds should be noticeably improved. Property Owner

we had originally booked another property which the owner withdrew at the last minute leaving us limited time to book and very limited options. The Bothy way exceeded our expectations. We have rented several properties in the past and this was up there with the best. We are a mixed group of four generations spanning 10 months to 83 years old plus dogs. The Bothy accommodated us perfectly - it is clean spacious and well furnished with lovely comfy beds. We were concerned regarding the lack of en-suite accommodation but the design and layout worked perfectly for us. The baths are amazing and the towels plentiful and good quality. The kitchen was perfection - by far the best equipped we have used outstanding quality and everything covered. Ample space to store our mega online shop - we cook for the week - and the bonus of the extra fridge in the snug was perfect for drinks. The enclosed garden was perfect for the dogs and ample parking for our 5 cars. The hot tub was used daily despite the inclement weather and the provision of towels for this was a lovely touch. The garage housing the table tennis table could easily be further developed to create a full games room or even better an indoor pool. Shutlingsloe seen clearly from the garden is a lovely albeit challenging climb which we completed in under two hours door to door. The nearby family run children’s farm and ice cream parlour is also well worth the visit. The tea room has a lovely inexpensive menu. Very few negatives and none that affected the holiday: There are several small steps and level changes throughout which would be difficult for young children and elderly/disabled. The bin in the kitchen needs rethinking it is so impractical and much too tall for any bin liners A coffee maker would be a welcome addition The property is difficult to find in the dark as the sat nav only works to just outside the village. The area feels quite remote which suited us although Buxton is an easy 15 minute drive. The Tesco driver struggled to locate us to deliver our food order and was unable to connect by mobile due to the poor signal. Audrey who was our Property contact regarding the booking was responsive and very helpful. Would fully recommend the Bothy and would definitely consider a return visit.

  • "A beautiful property to accommodation 3 families coming together."

Very well equipped, spacious, very clean with lots hot water. Stunning views in a lovely location. We were blessed with good weather and enjoyed local walks as well as trips to Buxton, Bakewell, local caverns, walking the ‘Roaches’ and Shuttlingsloe. The children had a trip to Alton towers while adults visited the wonderful National Memorial Arboretum. The local Grag Inn was in perfect walking distance, may look a bit dated (character and history!) but we had a very friendly warm welcome and good service and food was great. We made the most of the hot tub and enjoyed our chats with Norman who was very friendly and helpful. Would love to come back.

  • "PLUSES: wonderful location, beautiful views and proximity to walking paths."

Plenty of hot water, two dishwashers and two lounges, generous welcome pack, and the hot tub. When we arrived, water had seeped inside the front door, and this was dealt with quickly and professionally by Norman the handyman. MINUSES: very few. Not sure about the accuracy of the listing, because it really sleeps 11 plus a camp bed. Dining table would benefit from an oiled cloth which could be wiped down. If we add to this the fact that there were too few dishwasher tablets, you can see how minor our concerns were. All in all, a fantastic weekend at an outstanding property.

  • "A most memorable celebratory week for my 60th birthday with family and friends."

All enquiries were dealt with promptly and efficiently; the "cottage" was appointed to a high standard and its location was perfect for exploring the area in a series of day walks - even the covering of snow was perfect (enough to make for picturesque photographs and challenging walking whilst still being able to move a car around in the evening). The only improvement any of us could think of was a range extender for the Wi-Fi; the place was so extensive that the signal didn't reach to the north wing!

  • "We were absolutely delighted with The Bothy."

It was so comfortable and beautifully presented. It's perfectly positioned to be able to go for walks straight out the front door and also close (walking distance) to some lovely pubs. We especially appreciatrd the additional thoughtfulness; hamper, wood for the fire and allowing us to stay later because the roads were so icey. We will definitely be booking again for next year! Thank you

  • "The house was great and the welcome package lovely and we all loved the hot tub."

The only problem we had was with the out dated directions. Every single group that drove to the property got lost. And it really stressed us out especially with kids and dogs in the car late at night. Some people where driving around for more than an hour. The directions are fine right up to the last little bit where the directions talk about finding a white gate with the name of the house on it. Well there are 3 white gates around crag hall and not one of them is the front entrance to the house. Plus the 'bothy' sign isn't visible because it's on the open brown gate which is pushed back out of the way. My two suggestions would be to maybe get the house name/sign put out on the side of the road where you can see it and please please, take of the bit about the white gate from your directions or paint the gate white. Apart from that we had a great holiday. Thanks

  • "It was a beautiful, quiet spot."

The house was really clean and well kept. The welcome pack that was left behind was amazing and kept us well stocked until we went shopping. A really enjoyable and relaxing break.

  • "Everything is of excellent quality and the house is extremely well equipped and comfortable."

The house was spotlessly clean and welcoming for our stay - including a nice welcome pack and birthday card & gift for one of our group.

  • "The oven wouldn't work on the second day which we a problem."

However, it certainly didn't spoil the overall experience. The cottage had otherwise excellent facilities, was clean and spacious with beautiful views of the Peak District. It could do with clear signing as I was looking for the Bothy and there was no indication the cottage was called that except for the bin outside!
