  • "The property was everything we wanted."

We stopped over the New Year. Grace , the owner, was very helpful recommending places to eat. We will definitely stay again. It was in a good location. The house itself was very nice. Looking forward to going again.

  • "This was an excellent find after being let down by another accommodation."

The house is comfortable and has everything you need for a great stay. It is well placed for car parking and to get into Shrewsbury with everything in walking distance. To make the property even better the duvet for the double bed on the top floor needs to thicker and there needs to be a blind for the skylight in that room as well.

But best if all it’s just a short walk into Shrewsbury with its lovely shops and many (!) excellent restaurants bars and cafes

  • "The house is well located, just opposite the Abbey and a short walk into town."

Parking outside the house or in the large car park behind is straightforward. It has some charming features - French Windows, a dining room and a great shower and is relatively well equipped. We were very pleased to find milk and cake on arrival! Unfortunately though the house is on a very busy road and there is almost constant traffic noise. Behind us there was builders work going on which could also be noisy. The less noisy bedroom is on the third floor and is I think a converted bathroom. It needs a better mattress and some bedside furniture and rewiring as a bedroom. The garden is paved and could be made a bit more of. Officious welcome packs are not pleasant and the house was happily relaxed in that respect. We could though have done with more info about things like recycling and so on. So much for the house. Shrewsbury itself was interesting but much larger than we had realised. It deserves some planning in advance to get orientated. There are numerous small shops and cafes but eating out isn’t straightforward.. and needs research; we had two or three poor meals and a dodgy pint. The town is somewhat ruined by traffic but you can escape that by visiting the Excellent and extensive parks. There is a park and riverside walk just up the hill from the house. The museum would be a good starting point for any visit or the boat ride which goes around the river - the river is wide and gently flowing. In short we would like to come back to Shrewsbury for a short stay but wouldn’t choose to stay at the abbey Foregate largely because of the traffic.

Everything we wanted to do was only a short walk away with town centre and Quarry park so nearby. The facilities were excellent. Cottage so well equipped, one of the best I've stayed in. Would strongly recommend it. We had a fantastic time here.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay in the Abbey Foregate house."

The house is in an excellent location to walk into the centre of Shrewsbury and the wonderful Quarry Park. It was very clean when we arrived and is very well equipped. As we stayed at the accommodation for a few weeks, Grace the owner was very helpful in providing local information, left some essentials before and during our arrival, and responded very quickly to any queries. Our dog Stan particularly liked the Abbey Gardens, which are directly opposite the house. Overall, highly recommended.

  • "Nice quirky town house in a good location for walking into town and easy access to motorway links."

The owner was very friendly and helpful. Just be aware that there is some noise in the house from outside traffic (the house is on a main road). Further, the outside area is more of a patio area than a garden and the upstairs 'shower room' is a shower cubicle put into an existing bedroom. The two toilets are both on the third floor. Parking is easy with a pay and display (£4 per day) car park next to the property. I would stay there again-the location and charm make up for any minor shortcomings.

  • "The location was great."

We had come to Shrewsbury to scatter our mother's ashes from the river boat "Sabrina" and it was a short walk away. We used it as a base to visit other areas where we grew up. We will book again.

  • "This property is ideally placed, very close to the city centre."

Our host was very welcoming and the house was comfortable and spacious. We particularly enjoyed having French doors from the living room into the garden, especially as the weather was good. Despite being near the road, our front bedroom was quiet because of the secondary glazing. The car park is 2 minutes walk away; we paid £17 for a week's season ticket. The parking spaces outside the house make it easy to unload the car. This was our first visit to Shrewsbury, but we will certainly be back- a lovely city and lots to do in the surrounding area.

  • "Thank you to Grace, the owner, who was extremely helpful and kind and ensured that we had everything we needed and popping round to check we had settled in comfortably."

Thanks also for the welcome basket which was a lovely touch. The house is in an excellent location with local amenities and the town centre close by. We had no trouble parking outside the house to unload and load the car at the beginning and end of our stay and used the car park at the end of the terrace the rest of the time. All in all a relaxing break in an excellent location for exploring the delights of Shropshire.

  • "Excellent location."

Small but homely and comfy house. Nice extra touches for Christmas but there were a couple of problems not clear from the description. There was no toilet on the same floor as the master bedroom so we slept in the 2nd bedroom so as not to have to use unfamiliar stairs during the night. The description mentioned en-suite shower but we assumed en-suite included toilet and shower was mentioned to distinguish it from a bath.. This should be clarified. There was no specific guest information provided. Information about rubbish collection / re-cycling should be provided. We had to leave piles of stuff by the bin in the kitchen as we had no idea what to do with paper, glass etc. There should be a brief guest info booklet.

Thank you for your feedback. Apologies for the confusion regarding the listing information about the lay out of the property. The 2nd floor en suite has a shower and wash basin facility but no toilet. Separate toilets are available in the property for customer use, this has since been amended on the listing. With reference to recycling information in the property, it is usually in place to assist customers but unfortunately it must have gone missing after a previous guest stayed and we were not aware of this. Thank you for letting us know, this has since been replaced. Overall we hope it didn't detract from your time at 189 Abbey Foregate and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Property Owner

  • "This was a lovely cottage and we had a great two weeks stay over Christmas."

We wanted 3 bedrooms for six adults and to be in walking distance of the town and this was perfect. Our only slight criticism would be the layout of the living rooms. There are two on the ground floor with in total four sofas, but we could not all 6 sit together comfortably to watch TV. Also, parking is restricted outside the house. The public car park is close by and you can get a weekly permit for £17. We found it more convenient to buy the permit for the second week than try to find a space on the street.
