  • "We had a really lovely stay at Acorn Lodge, and would highly recommend it."

The Lodge was beautifully furnished and included everything you could need for a weekend away. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub, along with relaxing in front of the wood burner. If you're after a peaceful weekend away, this is the perfect place! Jenkins the cat was a great addition, always happy to receive a fuss (and the occasional little treat), our children were quite sad to say good bye at the end of our stay! The only thing that could do with some attention is the access road, a few of the big holes could do with being filled in, but that's being picky.

Hi Kevin, we’re really grateful for your feedback. Maintaining the drive has been a challenge this winter due to the relentless rain. We will address this imminently as we’ve finally got a dry forecast. Jenkins is definitely a popular mascot for Acorn Lodge! Fantastic to hear that you enjoyed your stay. The hot tub did take a while to warm up, but once it was, it lovely. The owner was great, easily contactable and nearby to help if needed. Would stay again.

  • "We had an absolutely amazing bank holiday weekend!"

The location of Acorn Lodge in close proximity to the owner made sure any silly requests we had (and there were a couple, nothing to do with the lodge itself though!) were dealt with quickly. The owners are friendly and attentive and we had a good amount of communication with them and they are open to any feedback or recommendations, even whilst you are there. Acorn lodge itself made for the perfect holiday stay, we were welcomed by the very friendly Jenkins (cat) on arrival, the hot tub was great and once hot it really doesn’t take that long to reheat at all… in fact we overheated on a couple of occasions and had to call in for help

Hi Ailsa :) yes it is quite convenient if we need to nip over to provide any assistance as we’re only across the yard. Happy to help :D thanks for your positive feedback, we really appreciate it! Jeff & Anna x Property Owner

  • "The lodge is absolutely perfect and exactly what we’d hoped for."

It is set in beautiful countryside with a field of cows just over the fence which we loved to watch as we relaxed in the hot tub as the sun set. The hot tub is incredibly easy to use and is far superior to any other we’ve used before. The lodge is stunning. It feels really cosy and traditional but has all the modern appliances you need. Excellent showers and really comfortable beds. It’s incredibly private and peaceful but Jeff and Anna were always on hand if we needed anything and the welcome box of goodies was much appreciated. We’ve stayed in many Sykes cottages over the years and this was our favourite. (P.S We spotted a negative review on this website. The review we read is completely at odds with our experience. We recommend you ignore it).

Wow!! Thank you so much Mark!! That’s made our day :))) Property Owner

  • "Could not use the hot tub as it was NOT tested daily and chemicals added."

. Dining chairs were very rickety and on the point of breaking. Beds were atrocious. Bedding cheap nylon. Only 1 pillow each supplied. The lodge reeked of cigarette smoke when we arrived. The cupboard doors and drawers on the dresser were very poor quality and didn’t close or open easily. We left them open because they were in such a poor condition. This place was a disgrace.

We are very disappointed to read this, and puzzled that you did not raise any of these concerns in the communications we had during your stay. We would have been more than happy to explain and reassure about any concerns you had. The hot tub is woodfired and before the arrival of new guests it is drained, thoroughly cleaned/disinfected and refilled with fresh mains water. The water is treated with a skin friendly, bacteria neutralising, active oxygen powder recommended to us by the hot tub supplier. It is not a legal requirement to PAT test appliances and given that the lodge is barely a year old, all appliances are new. All fire extinguishers are less than twelve months old. The building fully complies with building regulations; two sets of windows open fully/are fire escape windows, plus the main door, totalling three fire escapes. The dining chairs are wooden so may creak but are sturdy, good quality pine chairs. The mattresses are of medium hardness as it is difficult to cater for everyone’s personal preference. The bedding is supplied by Johnson’s laundry service who launder and iron the bedding which is made from high-quality cotton. The pillows are king-sized jumbo pillows which are super deep and very comfortable. We inspected the lodge prior to your arrival and did not detect any cigarette odour. It is smoke free property. The vintage dresser has wooden doors and drawers which open and close, in a normal fashion! We have poured our best efforts into both renovating and running Acorn Lodge to a high standard and are sorry you don’t feel you experienced that during your stay. Whilst everyone is entitled to an opinion, we find your comments both hurtful and unjustified. Property Owner

Nice clean towels and bedding (with no bobbling on the bedding). Lovely location and so many places to visit. National Trust, Cannock Chase, canal, walking, gardens. Must admit have never been into history very much but the people we came across were extremely knowledgeable on the history of the places we visited. If you want peace and quiet with lovely views this is the place to be. It has a well stocked kitchen although I feel it could do with a reshuffle as all the plates and cutlery are at the other end of the kitchen, no big deal but irritating. Bedrooms are lovely and a nice touch with the free Netflix. We took a walk to the Green man with was a really friendly little traditional pub. Hot tub was a nice addition we couldn’t get this hot on the first night but then contacted Jeff who advised so it was fine for the rest of the stay, I’m not sure if it’s possible but it would really help if it could be fired up before arrival as we definitely found it took around 4 hours to warm up. Overall a lovely stay in tranquil surroundings. Oh and not forgetting Jenkins who felt like our own pet cat

For my brother and partners birthday. It was perfect and they all loved it! It was a cosy and quiet location. The hosts had a folder with information for walks and instructions for the lodge. Hosts were very easy to contact if there was anything we needed help with.Dishwasher easy to use when cleaning up and lots of plates, bowls, cups and utensils available. The chairs at the table could do with some seat cushions (just a personal preference but not required) but other wise everything was perfect. The hot tube was great especially in the cold evenings it was still nice and hot! My brother even went in the hot tub when it was raining! That's how much he loved it. The lay out is amazing and the upstairs bedroom is beautiful. There is a cute cat that is usually around in the day and will come up to the window, which made everyone smile. I would definitely come again!

.we definitely got this here! The lodge was the cleanest place I have ever stayed in and the welcome treats were a lovely added gift from the owner on arrival! The lodge had everything we needed, alongside beautiful views. It is definitely in an quiet location, about a 30 minute walk brought us to the Green Man which was a lovely traditional country pub, just definitely walk back while it is still light as this is the closest place! The closest supermarket was about a 20 minute drive, which was clearly noted in the information. Jenkins the cat was the sweetest little neighbour, coming to visit us none stop! I think the only addition we would have liked would be some curtains at the patio doors as late at night that privacy would be nice! Apart from this our stay was fantastic. Would also recommend Shugborough hall for a day out, and the Dog and Doublet for food! Thanks to Jeff for a lovely time.

Set in a peaceful location with fabulous views over the fields. It was so nice waking up to the sound of nothing! The lodge is well equipped with everything you need, very comfy and furnished to a modern high standard. The welcome back was also greatly received. We had a walk to the local pub The Green Man (approx 35 mins away, recommend the slightly longer route (45 mins) off the more busy roads) which was very friendly (the locals also helped us sort a taxi back home in the evening) and served food in the evening. As others have said, the hot tub is a great bonus as was Jenkins

So clean and in perfect condition, with everything you'd need for your stay. Comfy beds, a well equipped kitchen, wood burner with plenty of fuel, lots of room to relax and of course, the hot tub. Even thoughtful touches such as Netflix (with an account to use instead of having to try and log in yourself, which is always a pain) and a great welcome pack. The location is lovely (although be warned it is down a bumpy farm track!) on a proper working farm. My toddler was delighted with the cows and farm cat! Geoff was quick to respond to any queries we had and so helpful for the duration of our stay. We wouldn't hesitate to book here again, we had a wonderful time. Thank you Geoff and Anna!

Once we knew we were fine. We all had a fabulous weekend and would like to return again. Thank you!

Hi, thanks very much for your feedback. We’ve spoken to Sykes and asked them to put a note on our property online to make people aware of the warm up time when booking. Which is, in our experience, 1.5 -2 hours. We feel the wood fired tubs are a far more climate conscious option than the electric alternative. Thanks again for your feedback. It was nice looking at the cows each morning and getting regular visits from a few cats. The owner went out of their way to provide us with extra facilities for our young baby which was very much appreciated. The hot tub is a nice addition and makes for a great star watching opportunities in the evening.
