  • "Lovely, warm, clean, quiet and well-kept accommodation."

Great to have 2 TVs, comfortable seating in the lounge and an office with a large desk, especially as I had some work to do on my laptop. The bed was very comfortable, the overhead lighting excellent for reading and the amount of cupboard and wardrobe space was astounding; also plenty of storage space in the well-equipped kitchen. Just one niggle: we found that the very small fridge/freezer wouldn't initially accommodate all we had brought and, as it's free-standing on the floor, we had to keep kneeling down to see inside and optimize its space. The pleasant and helpful owners gave us useful information and very kindly provided a bottle of wine. The village is very nice and walks on quiet lanes are possible in various directions. A pleasant walk can be had at Downs Banks (National Trust) and from there along the Trent & Mersey Canal towpath to Stone centre. We had excellent lunches at the Shoulder of Mutton in the village and at the Black Lake Inn and the Spotgate Inn, both of which are within easy walking distance. Despite some poor weather we had a very enjoyable week and have no hesitation in recommending this charming and good value accommodation.

We took our small dog Eric and he enjoyed sniffing about in the large garden. The owners are just next door if you need any knowledge of the area or you have any issues. From here we visited the following places which we would recommend. Dimmingsdale Valley Furnace & Forest Walks, The medieval Lud’s Church, Thors Cave, Bakewell, Middleport Pottery, Westport Lake & canal & Mow Cop Castle. Very comfortable furniture in the lounge area which was very welcome on our return back to the annexe every evening. The kitchen had everything you would need as I cooked our evening meals every day with no problem. A welcome bottle of wine chilling in the fridge was left for us on our arrival. We had a brilliant long weekend.

The most comfortable sofa and bed we have experienced and plenty of cupboard space and a large shared garden area. The village was lovely and the locals were very friendly and the pub served excellent meals. Jane the owner was also very helpful. The only drawback we found was that the owners lived above the annex and there was some noise but that did not spoil the holiday.

A large well equipped kitchen, with benefit of two W.Cs and plenty of storage. The owners were extremely helpful and very welcoming and we enjoyed our stay. It should be noted, however, that this accomodation is integral with the owners property which extends above the bedroom. Therefore this property may not suit someone looking for an away from it all isolated 'cottage'.

There is plenty of room and lots of amenities are provided. There is also a large garden which our two dogs thoroughly enjoyed and shared with the owners dog Millie. Soon after settling in the owners, Steve and Jane, called to welcome us and introduce themselves. They gave us a lot of information of places to visit and also places to eat and drink, which we found to be excellent. The Shoulder of Mutton pub, which is just a five minute walk away serves good food with good portions, they are also very dog friendly which as we have two dogs was a bonus. We are certainly planning to return and look forward to seeing Steve, Jane and Millie again.

Fulford itself is a great location for a base as we found everything we needed within a 5 or 10 mile radius (Fulford's only negative was that the pub isn't dog friendly). As for the cottage (annexe), where do I start. I received pre-arrival welcome messages during the few days before arrival which set things up nicely. When we got there everything was clearly cleaned and prepared for us - even a bottle of wine and some dog treats for our enjoyment. The were precious few problems to encounter - I think I'd class a broken spatula as being about the most major!!!! That really is how good the place was. Our hosts were brilliant (including resident BC Milly), and our own Border Collie was made very welcome and made full use of the beautiful garden. We found the lounge, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom all to be very high quality and this settled us in within minutes of arriving. All in all I'd highly recommend Hunter's Moon Annexe 110% - so much so that after all our 'cottage holiday stays' this is the first one that we will be be returning to for definite. Location - brilliant. Cottage quality - fantastic Welcome/hosts - totally superb

We even spent our last night in the local with them. So lovely and down to earth. Bella our dog loved the garden and felt right at home from the off. It was clean, quaint and peaceful, exactly what we needed for the couple of nights to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life we live. The shower was fab and the kitchen was fully stocked of everything possible you would need. We couldn't get the TV in the bedroom to work, and the WiFi was too weak for us to pick up, but in some respects I was glad we didn't have it to have some respite from social media and the TV was not missed as we have the living room and plenty to keep us entertained and relaxed. If it would have been a problem we know we could have enquired and they would have looked at it for us. The owners couldn't do enough for us.xx The added touches like the bottle of wine and doggie bowl and treats were the added unexpected little additions that truly made us and our fur baby welcome. We can't wait to return.xx

Very warm and comfortable accommodation. Had everything we needed. Ideal for dog also, walk direct from the door. Didn't bother me and wasn't a problem, but may concern some people - shared garden with owner which was insecure in places. However, owners couldn't do enough to make stay pleasant. Lovely neck of the woods, nice to explore places off the usual tourist trail, but also convenient for walks in Derbyshire, Staffordshire etc, and looking round the Pottery museums which are fascinating.

  • "'The holiday that never was'."

Only stayed for one night, but had booked for more. Did not know from the description that the owners lived above the accommodation. Noise level was unbearable and hardly slept due to banging and other sounds overhead, which upset us both greatly. Sensor lights in driveway came on whenever a car went past, and lit up rooms in the annexe even with the blinds shut. Also had a visitors car left running outside the bedroom window, its headlights shining straight in at 11pm. Decided to leave the next morning as husband felt ill, didn't want to stay any longer. Very disappointing.

We have very much enjoyed holiday letting Hunters Moon Annexe for about 8 or 9 years and during that time have met many, many lovely people and received lovely reviews and recommendations from satisfied guests who have enjoyed their break at Hunters Moon Annexe, many of whom have visited repeatedly. We were very sad and shocked to receive this review from Mr and Mrs Steed and we are very sorry we made them so unhappy with our efforts that they chose to leave after staying just one night without recourse to us or Sykes before their departure. Hunters Moon Annexe is completely self-contained and as shown and described on Sykes website, is part of the ground floor of our family home building,. This has never happened to us previously and we are not aware of anything significantly different that happened during Mr and Mrs Steeds time at Hunters Moon Annexe when compared to many hundreds of other guests we have welcomed. We welcomed Mr and Mrs Steed when they arrived, there was an issue with the internet which was resolved quite quickly and unfortunately that is the last we saw of them. The following day their car had gone in the morning and sadly did not return even late that evening. We were concerned for them and sent an SMS text enquiring if they were OK and all was well, there was no response. Eventually we received a telephone call from Sykes Cottages informing us Mr and Mrs Steed had left. Subsequently, we requested Sykes to refund Mr and Mrs Steed, Sykes recommended to refund only payment for the remaining booked nights Mr and Mrs Steed chose not to stay in the Annexe. Very Best Regards Jane & Steve Property Owner

There is a very good pub within walking distance and does excellent food, but no village shop. Nearest town is Stone, just a ten minute drive away where you will find a very good supermarket and plenty of other stores and restaurants. Jane & Steve who own the house could not have been better hosts, they are normally about if required and are excellent, fun company for a chat! The annexe has plenty of storage and the bed is very comfortable. The kitchen has all that is required and well set out. The bathroom has over the bath shower and always plenty of hot water available. There are many walks around the area and the garden is very pleasant to just sit and chill with a beer or two. We did not visit any of the many attractions around the area as our visit was mainly to see relatives and friends due to now living in Scotland. We are also Holiday Home Hosts and I just hope our guests have as good a time as we had at Jane and Steve's beautiful home! (Cannot wait to book the next visit).

  • "Needed to find accommodation that would take two collie dogs due to taking part in the 70."

3 Stafford Half Ironman in June 2019. Hunters Moon wasn't close to the start in Chasewater but it allowed more than one dog. Prior to arrival I'd asked whether we could get in early due to travelling up from Cornwall overnight and for the owners to text me if this was possible on the day. They duly text when the accommodation was ready and I text back to say that we were very wet due to the current weather conditions (pouring down with rain!). On arrival the heating had been turned on so that we could dry out and also there was a bottle of wine for us and a number of doggy treats for the collies. Steve, the owner, showed us where everything was but said to text him if we needed anything further. (We only needed to do this once when a bulb blew and tripped the fuse switch and he came round immediately to fix it.) They also supplied an information folder with everything in it which you need - wifi code, vets, doctors, shops, pubs, etc. There's also an interesting folder in the office with the history of Fulford in it (Hunters Moon used to be the post office at one time - hence the postbox in their wall). There is loads of storage space here as well as living space. We didn't even use the lounge or office as we spent most of our time around the kitchen table as there was plenty of room here. The location is ideal for getting around Staffordshire. Morrisons is in Stone, about five miles away, for food and fuel. Good road links to Stafford, Lichfield, Cannock Chase, Shugborough (NT). We have an older collie dog (14) so we brought out own rubber-backed mats as he has problems on wooden floors which they had here (legs go in all directions except the way he wants them to go). Overall we had a lovely week except it rained most days but that didn't stop us going out and seeing as much of Staffordshire as we could. Would definitely come back here next year.
