  • "The cottage is beautiful, well equipped and very comfortable."

The welcome pack was a lovely touch. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars as opposed to 5 was that the downstairs heating didn’t seem to work very well which is essential in winter. The radiators in the lounge barely got warm even though we had checked they were on. The utility room and the upstairs were toasty but the lounge, kitchen and dining room weren’t particularly warm unless you lit the log fire. The heating explanation in the pack didn’t match the device on the wall in the utility that we saw and the “further heating instructions” in the appendix in the black house folder had been removed. We did find the walk from where you park the cars by the garage to the kitchen patio doors through the garden to be very dark and some solar lights may have helped guide us along the path in the rain in winter ( we had an elderly member in our party ). I also think you should specify in the instructions that the keys to enter the property are the ones to the kitchen patio doors and not the front or back door as you would have normally imagined. We arrived in the dark in winter and spent an anxious 5 mins wondering how to get into the house with our key as it didn’t fit the front or back door to the property. However, we did have a lovely time and found the cottage to be nicely furnished, plenty of room and well equipped.

Hi I am glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage and thank you for letting us know about the heating not functioning properly downstairs and the back door key not working. I will get a plumber round to look at this issue and the maintenance company to see why the back door is not working as this should be the main access and not the kitchen. Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay, thank you for the lovely welcome basket."

The property was very clean, although fire place had not been cleaned out and we had to remove the ashes before we could light the fire. The only drawback was it took quite a while before the property heated up, and the first day was quite chilly. My one suggestion would be the addition of a non slip mat for use in the shower area; we had my elderly mother with us and she felt unsafe when showering . Overall I would definitely recommend this property.

  • "Lovely spacious property and lovely and quiet."

Comfortable beds and nice touches with toiletries and welcome bits in the kitchen. Well equipped with everything you need for a stay. Beautiful property and garden, the pictures don’t do it justice and it’s in an ideal location with many things to do just a ten min drive away. The only minor inconvenience was some of the towels weren’t perfectly white and we did have to give a lot of the kitchen items a once over and clean but otherwise a perfect stay and would stay again.

Many thanks for your positive comments and we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay. I have spoken to the management company and asked that the white towels are replaced and the kitchen is also checked. Property Owner

  • "Wow We go away every christmas."

This is the first property that everybody wants to return to. It was wonderful, so much thought, and attention to detail. Set on a private road, a large garden, with ample parking Overlooking fields, very few houses. Isolated, peaceful bliss As we walked in, a beautiful real christmas tree, decorated, with lights twinkling And gorgeous cake, wine and biscuits, left for us. What a great way to be greeted. The property itself is stunning. A mix of contemporary and character. A stunning modern kitchen, with a fridge and freezer big enough for anything you bring. Every type of cup or glass or plate you can think of (the hidden cutlery drawer was under the smeg kettle and toaster- to save you reading the handout) The utility room and porch, so handy for coats and muddy boots. And perfect for hiding all the christmas presents! Lots of books and games, and the dining room had drawers of everything and anything you can think of. A lovely real fire, two fronted, for the dining room and living room The living room was our favourite. Room for people to be watching tv, playing the piano, opening presents, or playing with toys. What a great space. All the bedrooms were well sized, beds comfy (creaky floorboards add to the character) a fabulous family bathroom, and great shower (we never used the bath) We went out for great meals to nearbye places (book in advance) Chester zoo, christmas eve at cheshire oaks, lovely walks What a perfect christmas Minor flaws. Not enough firewood for a week. Which meant we had to go out to buy some on a day we didnt want to drive anywhere The downstairs bathroom needs upgrading. With adults and teenagers all wanting to use, the one upstairs shower isnt enough We would have loved to stay again this christmas, but more people are joining us, so wouldn’t fit in. We will certainly look at staying again. Thank you so much

As you can imagine not an easy experience but I have to say that our stay in this cottage really helped us. It was lovely and tranquil and we immediately felt at home. A real home from home. Everything we needed was on hand and there was plenty of space for us to be together or to find some time alone. The views were amazing, the house was clean and tidy, beds were comfy no complaints. The only observation we had was the very narrow lane to get to the cottage glad we didn’t meet anyone coming the other way! We wish we had booked longer to be together and to be near Dad. Thank you Sykes holiday.

  • "Our third holiday in this lovely old meets new cottage, it has a real home from home feel."

The garden is beautiful and full of wildlife, the peace and quiet hits you as soon as you step out of the car and walk up the garden to the door . The lady at the cleaning company who look after the cottage was lovely and had the big garden furniture put out for us and they even got the fire pit out ready, after I called her before arrival about possible early check in and explained it was my daughter’s 18th and she had plans of a big steak from the Hollies farm shop on the barbecue and celebrating in the garden . We all slept really well there and myself and my 18 year old haven’t slept that well since coming home,! This was our first time in spring as normal we go in autumn and it’s lovely at both times of year. In the autumn the garden is full of squirrels and in the spring full of little bunnies. The cottage and the garden which is super private are so lovely and give you a lovely homely feel that you hardly want to leave to explore the surrounding area. We are all really missing it already especially the Birthday girl . I’m sure we will be back for a 4th visit at some point.

We are delighted to hear the cottage gives you so many happy memories. Property Owner

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay, the children loved the garden and the beanbags. Cottage was clean and had everything we needed. The owners left us wine, hot cross buns & Easter chocolate for the children which was a nice surprise. We had a walk to a local pub only 1 mile away for some lunch which was lovely too. We would love to come back again to stay! Thank you!

Setting is lovely and quiet but only a short walk to a super pub. Well placed for many attractions in Cheshire and North Wales. The grandchildren (8 & 3) appreciated the toys and books and the piano! The grown ups really enjoyed the log burner and the table in the dining room was great for evening board games as well as dinner. Cutlery drawer is hidden - a note to that effect in the handbook would have saved a phone call to Sykes. Also the heating timing seemed a bit erratic, probably due to the thermostat not working, but other than this we had a great time and would reccomend this property.

Thank you for the feedback and we are really pleased you enjoyed the stay, we have added a note about the cutlery drawer location to the handbook and have put new batteries in the thermostat. Many thanks for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay at the property."

The roads leading to the property were absolutely fine, easy to find and close to local amenities. Views from bedrooms were stunning. There were a few lightbulbs not working around the house but we found new ones (just something to mention to the managed service) and no logs for the fire, but this was provided when we contacted Sykes (but only enough for 1 fire). We’d love to stay here again would recommend that owners look to invest in a better wifi booster, as smart TV didn’t work at all, or at least a DVD player as there were lots of DVDs but no player. Perhaps some games also. Kitchen was very well stocked however no tea towels or oven gloves (which is fine but maybe mention it in the notes as we didn’t think we’d have to ask to check).

Thank you for the feedback and we are really pleased you enjoyed your stay. I have passed on your comments in relation to maintenance of the property. The DVD player is in the back of the TV and the internet is being addressed by a new scheme for rural locations. Looking forward to having you to stay again. Property Owner

  • "This was our second stay at Hollytree cottage, we stayed in Autumn last year for a week between lockdowns and loved it, so this time booked for 2."

The garden and location with fields all around and the tree line of Delamere Forest in the distance is so lovely, we sat out round the fire pit a fair bit enjoying it, despite it being November. Inside is a lovely mix of old and new, with a lovely log burning duel side fireplace for extra cosines, the kitchen is well stocked and I even baked cookies whilst there, we slept well in the beds, which is good because we all mostly like fairly firm memory foam mattresses and theses are probably more middle of the road. We enjoyed the big deep bath and found everything nice and clean. Delamere forest is a 2 min drive round the corner which is great for walks, and the Hollies farm shop about 10 mins away is always a must, especially in the run up to Christmas. We spent a lot of our time chilling having family time in the cottage, it is so peaceful there and with a piano and second big table in the dining room to play games round, it’s a perfect place to get away from it all and spend quality time together. We did have a power outage on our last night due to a fuse box problem but the lady from the cleaning company who look after the property was really lovely and got on to it very quickly and someone came out to fix straight away. I’m afraid I’ve forgotten the ladies name from the cleaning company but she was really nice and always got back to me very quickly, once I called the number in the cottage book, don’t call the one Sykes gives you it’s not correct. The cottage is on a narrow single road and at times in the year the vegetation can hang over a bit but we have a big car and we’re fine, it’s nearer to the end of the road if you go left out of the drive towards the east and Delamere, rather than going right which is longer to get to the main road, we never had to pass another car the whole time we were there though. If I had to pick something to improve I would say it would be good to offer a few memory foam Pillows too, as many people use those now and I’ve notice a few places starting to have them or have them in a cupboard if needed. The only disappointment was that the trampoline had gone this year and the big garden table and chairs, which would have been handy as we sat out and had a few BBQ’s, there is a smaller table and chairs and a bench seat which we managed on. We had a lovely time here and will probably be back again at some point and would definitely recommend.

Many thanks for your feedback we are really pleased you enjoyed staying at the house for a second time. Unfortunately the trampoline was removed for safety reasons. A large timber table and chairs is available but I had put it away for the winter months. We look forward to you returning again. Property Owner

  • "Really relaxing time at this property."

Quiet and isolated.. very peaceful away from it all, but easy to get to Chester from nearby station.Kitchem really well equipped and modern. Broadband but no mobile signal on Plusnet. Large garden really nice to sit out in and relax, and enjoyed by our toddler Grandson. Highchair and cot were provided and plenty toys. OK it was very narrow single track road, but only saw a handful of cars in the whole of our week. On our visit in August the hedges did indeed encroach on road, and left scratches on car. Not in owners control, but just be aware. Recommend nearby pub The Goshawk for good food and play area, though suggest not an easy walk. Also well worth a visit to nearby Delamere Forest visitor centre.

  • "The cottage was beautiful and very roomy However we had to wipe inside the cupboards before putting any food inside."

The single track road up to the cottage is horrendous and people should be warned how bad it is as really wide cars will struggle. Having said the above we loved the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Thank you for the feedback and positive comments. We apologise about the cupboards and have informed the cleaners. Part of the property charm is its countryside setting and the property description states that it is on a single-track lane. The road appears narrower in summer months due to seasonal growth, which has been reported to the council, however due to bird nesting season this cannot be cut back until September at earliest. The baking trays could be renewed as very manky. There is a wasps nest in gutter on front of house unable to open windows. There was NO front door key so would be unable to exit house to the front if there was a fire. Cables from Freeview to Tv missing.

Many thanks for informing us about the issues you have encountered and for the positive review score of 87%. An appointment for pest control to remove the wasp’s nest has been arranged and the missing freeview cable has been replaced. The oven has been checked and I have reported the baking trays to the maintenance company. Your safety is very important to us and the property meets annual Fire Risk Assessment criteria having three available exits, two fire extinguishers, two smoke alarms and a fire blanket. Great facilities on the whole. Just a couple of things to note - try as we might, we could not get the wifi to work. We did try to call the number in the book but it just rang out. I wasn't a major issue for us - nice to switch off, but for some people, I know it can be a lifeline! Also, the cottage didn't have an iron and ironing board. It would also be useful to have at least one full length mirror.

Thank you very much for your feedback. Unfortunately we were unaware of the issues with the WiFi and we are having those looked into. Also we have taken your comments on board regarding the iron and ironing board and are purchasing these for the property. Property Owner

  • "Holly cottage is a lovely home from home cottage."

The mix of old and new is done really well, the old bits have that truly old quirky Beamed and wonky floor feel , and the new bits are bright and modern with big widows all round to take in the views of the gardens and surrounding maize fields. The main bathroom was lovely and the roll top bath really comfy, we took loads of spa stuff with us and it was the closest to being at an actual spa since covid started. Also the whole the place was very clean and comfortable. The owners were great at responding to us as We had a few questions about what the cottage had, like barbecue and hdmi port for tv as with all the covid restrictions we thought we would be at the cottage a lot and we we’re but that wasn’t just cos of covid or the week of rain, it was because the cottage is so lovely and restfull to be in. On the dry days we chose to stay and enjoy the garden which is so quiet and peaceful, it’s very private and fully of mature trees and boarders with a big stretch of grass for games, there’s loads of garden furniture and a fire pit, we had a lovely barbecue with fantastic food from hollies farm shop only 10 mins away. There’s big outdoor bean bags and footballs for kids and the trampoline was a big hit. Inside there’s a lovely log fire which warms both the large but cosy sitting room And the dinning room which we used to play board games and ate at the kitchen table, the kitchen is well equipped and we were able to bake cookies and cakes. There are times of books if you like a holiday read and a 1000 piece jigsaw which is all there
