  • "Fantastic cosy comfortable cottage."

    My wife and I and our 3 young children had a lovely holiday. Location is perfect as can walk into Leek in a few minutes, lots of pubs and great restaurants to choose from. Great location to explore the Peak District as just 3 miles away your in the depths of winding country lanes and sheep. We visited Chattesworth House its about an hours drive from the cottage.

  • "No BBQ as stated on listing."

    Only 2 chairs outside not 4 as in photo. Bunk beds very uncomfortable and creak very loudly when the occupant moves, bearing in mind we only had a 7 and 10 year old in them. Road outside very noisy, wagons etc travelling through night no double glazing. Church bells ring every 15 mins. We all struggled to sleep for all of these reasons. Wouldn’t visit again. Leek itself is nice, very central location. Some people might like the fact it is central but it was too noisy for us. Basic inside, a wall had wet paint on it which my daughter managed to touch and get paint on her new coat. It cleaned off but a text or a note to say wet paint would have been nice. Strong smell of paint for a couple of days too. I’ve stayed in worse places but another cottage you advertise in the lakes was amazing when we stayed there. This one was nowhere near as nice. Was okay for the price, just didn’t suit our family.

  • "Great location."

    Could walk straight into town. Great value. Cosy cottage, full of character. WiFi would be a good addition plus some intstructions about the house (eg how to boost he beating, where to put the rubbish)

  • "The cottage was cute and the location was very good."

    Lots of useful things provided, loo rolls , washing up liquid, tea, coffee etc. Which we were pleased about. However it was a bit scruffy, carpets, mats were very old. The radiator in the bathroom did not work . The radiators in the bedrooms needed "bleeding" as only hot halfway up. Could not get the tv in the bedroom to work. There were lots of dvds in the cottage but no player.

  • "Cozy little cottage."

    Ideally situated very close to town where many choices of bars and restaurants .Cottage has all facilities .Pay car park very close.Been twice now ,will certainly visit again..

  • "Rather poor value for money on a number of counts, although reasonable for a few days only."

    Several things did not work very well and the hot water was at a dangerous scalding temperature. The shower was impossible to use and could only be hand held anyway. The furniture, especially the sofas were not comfortable and my wife also found the bed mattress hard. We had chosen self catering as my wife has chronic back pain, with the view of it being more comfortable to sit in the evenings. Generally the furniture and fittings were poor, though the kitchen was new. We were also very careful on the steep, twisty stairs, as they had no bannister. However, the owner was kind to allow us to put stuff in the fridge in the morning before we took up residence as we had a tight schedule. Although the property was old, it was clean. We didn't think however that it was Sykes standards or should have been advertised with the difficulties such as the steep stairs and the small unmarked step out of the kitchen highlighted.

  • "Cottage was lovely and cosy and very comfortable."

    Only downside is the lack of a proper shower but I knew that from the listing and can see there isn't really room for one.

A lovely Grade II listed, 18th century quaker cottage in the lovely market town of Leek, within walking distance of the many restaurants, pubs and shops the town has to offer.

Buxton 12 miles; Ashbourne 15 miles.

The hillside market town of Leek, known as “The Queen of the Moorlands” is situated on the western side of The Peaks and is surrounded by lovely Moorland countryside. The town has a charming cobbled market place and there are many examples of fine Victorian architecture influenced by William Morris - a reminder of the town’s prosperity when it was renowned as a silk manufacturing centre.
