"Unfortunately horse show cottage was a real example of how pictures can be deceiving as the cottage is certainly not as idyllic as the advertisement would have you perceive."
The property is attached onto a garage and is situated on a very busy and noisy main road. Lots of the furniture is extremely worn and not particularly comfortable, The property lacked a real sense of cleanliness, apart from the bedding which we honestly couldn’t find fault with. The property furthermore didn’t have a front door key available which was a real problem when we tried to go to the lovely local pub for food. This again wouldn’t have been a problem but the pathway from the back door was completely flooded and you had to wade through water a high as your wellies to get there, not ideal when your ready for a night out. While we appreciate the flooding is not the owners fault the lack of front door access is. Finally the cottage uses an oil fired heating system. The smell from this was absolutely horrific our full stay to the extent quite a few of our party were suffering sore heads. I’m not sure if this is normal or there is fault with the heating system, but it did leave us feeling very concerned about the safety of the system and how well it is maintained. As a family who travel to Stoke regularly with our daughter for competition we thought this might be a really nice alternative to a local hotel. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case and we won’t be returning to horseshoe cottage. We found our whole experience very disappointing and won’t be returning or recommending horse shoe cottage to anyone.

"Generally this property is clean and well kept."
There are 2 very big notes of concern. As its not 100%clear on the listing (and I feel it should be) that the garden is not enclosed for pets, there is no gate across the drive and beyond that is a major road, our dog escaped through the hedge and nearly caused a major accident so this is definatly worth noting when advertised as a pet friendly cottage. The mattresses on the beds are extremely uncomfortable, to the point of unusable. My partner had to sleep on the floor initially and then the sofa downstairs as it was so thin and caused big back issues. Obviously that wasn't ideal so unfortunately those issues overshadowed what was otherwise a very nice holiday let. A little investment in those 2 issues would work wonders and ideally should have been sorted sooner.

"The house was beautiful & very well equipped."
The beds were comfy & the bathrooms were clean. The noise from the road was a problem as single glazing didn’t block out much from a very busy road. The upstairs bedroom had no blinds but we had a lovely relaxing holiday & Camilla was happy to communicate whenever we needed to contact her using WhatsApp

"No blind on one of the velux windows in the attic."
Made for a very early wake up call! Shower far to high to reach, had to climb on toilet/side of bath to turn on/off. Realised on day 3 of our stay that the shower unit could stay on and be controlled by the pull cord instead. No safety mat in the bath when showering. Mop would have been useful for the wet doggy paws in and out of the garden. Courtyard garden - not kept well, could've been jet washed. Outdoor furniture very old, worn & broken in places. Possibly better used as a secure dog area only. Liked the supplied dog beds/bowls/lead. Didn't need to bring ours but we didn't know at the time. No plugs in either of the bathroom sinks - for one guest this was an issue as liked to have a wet shave which wasn't fully possible. Appreciate it's an old building but doors don't seem to close well, if at all on some. Beds very comfortable. Sink drainer would've been useful when washing up seeing as the dishwasher wasn't working. Previous review in March 2023 says the same about the dishwasher being out of order! Garden/firepit area needs some attention. Overgrown plants/trees stopped full use of the area. Good space overall, heating worked well. Just needs a tidy up here and there. Wouldn't say the price charged was value for money. It's been marketed very well but the reality is different in parts of the cottage.

"Nice cottage, lots of space and adequate facilities."
Dogs well accommodated for. Lovely area to explore. However there were a few issues. The cottage is situated next to a busy road so the traffic noise was significant. The dish washer was not in use and had been faulty for some time reading previous reviews. . The shower head holder was broken and the shower itself was more of a trickle. Overall a good cottage that could be first class with a little care and attention.

"Dishwasher didn't work and wasn't fixed, no communication during stay."
To hot upstairs, no controls on radiator so couldn't adjust temperature in rooms and road very noisy with open windows. Lots of cobwebs, especially in downstairs toilet and kitchen. Enclosed garden very small and dirty outdoor furniture. Main garden open to the road, lots of rubbish just over fence, a bit of an eye soar. No communication on what to do with rubbish or where anything was. Attack room badly decorated, damp perling paintwork, barely usable. Very disappointed, especially considering the price.

Loved the place. Hope to come back some day. Thanks!

"Lovely cottage, with lots of downstairs room."
Bedrooms good size, beds a little hard but okay for a few days. As we stayed at a really cold snap cottage would benefit from some throws to help keep warm in both lounges. Would definitely stay again xx

"This is a really fantastic cottage This is a really fantastic cottage."
It is far bigger than it appears on both the photographs on the website and when standing outside. The cottage is very well decorated, and feels very cosy and welcoming. The host was extremely approachable and helpful throughout and I would really recommend anybody thinking of booking here to go ahead!

"We have had a few cottage rentals in the Peak District, this one was our best by far."
It was immaculately clean, lovely bedding and towels were provided, it didn’t feel like it had been furnished with unwanted household furniture either!!! As a group of 5 adults 2 children we wondered if 1 bathroom plus a downstairs toilet would work, it was fine. We would highly recommend it along with the amazing country walks so close by.

"We really enjoyed our stay."
The garden room was very lovely, unfortunately the radiator in this room didnt work, so it was chilly, especially in the evening. We enjoyed sitting in the very spacious and spotless kitchen.

"Beautiful property, well appointed and in a lovely location."
Good sized living area and bedrooms, well stocked kitchen with all pots pans glasses etc that are needed. Not far from Leek and 2 pubs within strolling distance that both serve food. Owner very helpful, especially when calling as got lost finding the house.

"My friends and I stayed here for a long weekend hiking in the area and couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay."
Very spacious, had everything we needed, some lovely outdoor areas and a helpful host. Would recommend.

"Horse Shoe cottage exceeded all expectations, lovely and clean, beautifully furnished and much bigger than the photos on the website show."
Camilla was great to deal with and we were made to feel very welcome, would definitely recommend this holiday home.

"We were a family group of 7 visiting some family nearby and there was plenty of space for us all."
The cottage was well equipped with lots of lovely added extras such as milk, juice and prosecco in the fridge. The huge back garden was great for the dog to run around and there were lots of lovely walks from the door step. 10/10 perfect for a family break away! My only suggestion would be some thick curtains in the bedrooms to help with the noise and light from the main road, but this is just a little suggestion and in no way a complaint. Thanks for an amazing stay, we will definitely be back again in the future.

"Really enjoyed our stay at this superb cottage."
Camilla was very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of sitting out areas and very close to a number of pleasant walks.
