  • "I have been a customer of yours for about 15 years and the accuracy of this listing is the worsed I have seen."

When you see picture No.1 and you read the description you are led to believe that you can park next to the steps, not about 25 yards down a steep driveway. The summary says "Front patio with furniture and private hot tub", the garden furniture is not the same as the picture shows it is cast iron, not a wooden set and the hot tub is not on the patio. In the filters I always tick enclosed garden and in the features for this cottage it says garden/patio. Now the picture of the hot tub at the end of the lawn is what sold us this cottage only to find when we get there that the lawn is a private garden not the one for the cottage, as there isn't one and the view out of the hot tub is marred by a chain with a private property notice and it is very overgrown. It is therefore not the romantic setting that it portrays. The kitchen table does not have four comfy red chairs it has three hard white chairs and the wardrobe in the bedroom has a shelf at the bottom which makes it not deep enough to hang any resonably length dresses in. Lastly there was no key for the conservatory so no shoes etc could be left in there and there were no open countryside views as the surrounding trees blocked most of it out.

  • "The willow lodge is lovely."

I was apprehensive before going after reading some of the reviews. This cottage is located in a beautiful setting. The track leading up to the cottage is not that bad if you take at slow speed however, this is advertised. Parking is great with a very short walk up to the cottage. The staff are very friendly and we’re very helpful during our stay. The cottage inside is very well equipped and has everything you could need during a stay. The only thing I would say is that the towels could do with being replaced and the sofa in the living room is a little worn lacking padding. Everything else was amazing and wee had a lovely stay over new year.

  • "We had a fantastic stay."

The cottage was lovely and we liked all the Xmas lights around the place. The only thing we did have problem with was the oven. We got it to turn on and get a bit warm but it would not get hot even with the thermostat turned right up It was a bit better when we had the oven and grill on but still did not cook our meal. In the end we used the microwave. I think it needs looking at. Other than that it was super. Thank you. Rob & Sally

  • "Upon arrival at the cottage we were told that we couldn’t park out the front of the property to unload, even for 10 minutes!"

Therefore we had to carry everything up a very steep incline , my husband has a heart condition and I walk with a stick so this was not easy and no help was offered , this also wasn’t mentioned in the listing , if it was we wouldn’t have booked ! The property itself is very nice and with some attention to detail could be a lot better. One of the main problems was lack of cupboard space in the kitchen to store food , one double cupboard is full with the hoover, mop , ironing board etc , so this is not ideal. There is also no washing machine as stated in the listing. The oven has no markings on the front of either temperature control or oven/ fan/ grill etc these are all worn off and there is no make name on it so I couldn’t even research this on the internet., there also no oven gloves. The internet connection was very sporadic and virtually non existent in the evening for several hours , I don’t know if this was because guests in the other properties on site were on the same connection? But this needs attention. Lighting to the hot tub for this time of year is insufficient, they have solar lights in the ground but they weren’t very bright at all, there was a string of lights but these didn’t work . The pathway to the tub could also be improved and needs sweeping regularly . The hot tub itself was nice and relaxing but we encountered problems of it turning itself off , the owners thought we were accidentally doing it when we closed it , this wasn’t the case as we found out one day when they messaged me to say the tub was off again that morning when they checked it but we hadn’t used it the previous day ! The area is lovely and the tea shop along the road is well worth a visit.

  • "Ian Gibbeson and I have used Sykes Cottages many times, this time the equipment were poor."

The Cottage itself was pretty and comfortable, the bedding and towels were great, but there is room for improvement. There is no designated cupboard for food, this is a common occurance in holiday cottages. The kitchen was very poorly equipped. There was only TWO saucepans, one the size of a bucket, the other the size of a tea cup, (exaggeration !) but I challenge anybody to prepare a meal using those two. There was one ex-non-stick frying pan that was awful, thin, bent and impossible to use. Lots of dishes to serve food in, no ability to cook. No useable fish slice, only a broken one (try IKEA, 50p) Not one knife that would cut through anything more than butter. (IKEA again) A cafetiere would have been good, luckily I brought my own.ditto The general feeling was one of meanness. Tiny amounts of tea/coffee etc, the minimum toilet rolls, one feeble scourer, an inch of washing up liquid, no salt and pepper. I have stayed in cottages where it feels as if the owner has bought everything new, matching, with pride. This felt as if the owner had emptied all the cupboards at home. Who needs 6 pint glases and a few odd wine glasses? These cottages are expensive, we do not need to steal a pot scraper or a toilet roll.....in fact I left 2 as a gift.Corona virus has meant there was welcome pack or visitors book, which is a shame. Leaflets need updating. OK I have finished! Brigid Holdsworth

  • "Cottage very compact and comfortable."

Ideal for relaxing in very picturesque surroundings. Local Pubs very accommodating, we ate in a different one every night and overall the food was better than average, with The lazy Trout in Meerbrooke coming out on top. Only negative would be the track to the Cottage, it was `tricky to drive` due to recent heavy rain but Lorna is in the process of repairing it. We would definitely stay here again.

  • "While the overall break was lovely and what I'd expected, there are a few concerns: - When arriving at the cottage, we'd called ahead an hour before arriving as the instruction on the booking told us, only to be shown into the cottage with "this is it"."

No information on facilities etc. We had to contact Lorna later that evening to find out how to use the heating. - The hot tub was noted on the booking, however it failed to mention it's a shared hot tub, so you have to pre book time slots, which wasn't a huge issue really, but we also weren't shown how to use it, only where it was located. - One of the wetter days of our trip, we'd decided to stay in and watch films. Lorna knocked on our door with a guest she was hoping to show around the cottage. Considering we were only there 1 more night, I felt this was very inappropriate with us being there and all of our belongings out on show. She did apologise saying she thought we were out. To me, whether we are in or not, someone else shouldn't be brought in to the cottage with a guests personal items in there. She did apologise again the next morning when we left, but again reiterated that she thought we'd be out. That has left me feeling slightly uneasy that people could have been in while my personal items were there. Despite the above, the location was perfect and it was very much a relaxing break.

  • "Owner did not want my 10 year old son to use hot tub even though stated on website could be used by children 10 years and above."

She stated this was because other families had not been using hot tub safely. She said had changed website and children were not allowed to use hot tub. However, when we checked it still stated children from age of ten could use. Only two towels for shower provided and these were threadbare. Unable to read dial on oven as worn away.

Cottage not good standard, dirty plates in cupboard, bathroom smelt of cigarette smoke, empty soap dispenser in bathroom, old thin small towels. Owner then disturbed us to ask why we had the heating on with window open (smoke detector went off while cooking, needed to air room). No privacy, not professional, constantly told how hot tub issue was inconvenient for her but no mention of inconvenience to us. Would never stay there again, shocking
