  • "I stayed at this beautiful barn for three nights, it was so beautiful!"

I’d even go as far to say that the pictures do not do it justice. It has almost everything you could think of and need for a cosy and chilled weekend away. We were surprised to see fresh bread, milk, eggs and sausages upon arrival, we really appreciated it. I’d like to say a big thanks to Sam who gave us such a warm welcome and kindly showed us around the barn. I will definitely be back again!

  • "The Haughmond is a lovley barn property, which we found to be very comfortable and well stocked with everything we needed for our holiday."

A welcome gift of milk, bread, sausage and orange juice was a lovely suprise. It is set in a lovely location, within easy access of shrewsbury and surrounding areas. We were met by the owner on arrival who was very welcoming. Also the local shop and pub were ideally situated for amenities.

  • "I’ve recently returned from this lovely little village of Upton Magna , where I stayed with my partner in the most wonderful and comfortable ‘ Barn ‘, conversion , the barn conversion has been done to a very high standard, with all the facilities you could possibly need , it’s very comfortable with a large and smaller sofa to relax on after a day out walking , with sky tv to watch , it’s excellent accommodation worthy of 5* plus , I loved the walk in shower and choice of two shower heads ."

The bed we chose ( as it has three beds sleeping 6 people ) was comfortable with a high standard of cleanliness concerning bed linens. You really couldn’t wish for better accommodation. The Haughmond pub and restaurant next door has a lovely garden overlooking the fields of Shropshire , which you can sit with a coffee or a drink of your choice and enjoy the lovely surroundings, next to the barn is a coffee shop , where you could have breakfast , snacks , drinks , cakes of choice , it’s just wonderful. If you like the countryside and peace and quiet on holiday then this is the place to visit , I highly recommend it .

  • "Tricky one to review as there were good points but some truly awful points."

We were helped with the TV immediately by a very friendly young man. The space is adequate for 4 adults but wouldn't want to have 6 in here as advertised capacity as there isn't really enough comfortable seating in the living area for everyone to sit and view the TV and one bathroom isn't adequate for so many people. Location is quiet and you absolutely need your own transport, Upton Magna is lovely but tiny and there are no shops at all. There is no public transport, I found details of one bus one service at 7.30am and the bus stop was a 40 minute walk away. Not a reflection on the property but important for visitors to note. The onsite cafe/shop is popular with cyclists. Good take away coffee but very limited supplies. The Barn was clean in the kitchen and bathroom but could do with a duster elsewhere, quite a few cobwebs. None of the usual local tourist information, leaflets etc normally found in holiday accommodation. No information on recycling so we just put everything in the one bin. Kitchenware was provided except for tea towels and when we asked at The Haughmond restaurant we were given a couple which were folded as if just laundered but when we looked at them they were absolutely filthy. We used one for spills on the floor and kept it under the sink and we went out and bought our own. There pans were awful (as mentioned by a previous reviewer); not non-stick and the food just melded to the frying pan; again, we went out and bought our own. I emailed stating that one of the rooms needed to be twin beds rather than double and specifically asked for the twin room to be the one with the door and bigger window than the the rooms with skylights as someone in our party needed more natural light but when we arrived the twin was in the other room with the skylights. I was then emailed by another member of staff after giving this instruction after booking so they had the information on bed configuration requirements twice and still got it wrong. We managed but it shows lack of attention to detail and poor communication between staff. However, the real issue was the beds and bedding. The single beds are very small and even when zipped together as a double all the bed linen is miles too big, lots of draping sheets/duvet covers. The beds themselves were the worst ever; poor sleep by all of us. They were lumpy; each bed had a hard ribbed edging so when zipped together there was a hard ridge down the middle of the bed but also a gap between the two ribbed edges of each single that makes up the double. Effectively each double bed had to be treated as two singles as the middle couldn't be slept on at all. One member of the party was so desperate by the last night they tried to sleep on the sofa. If it had not been for the fact that we had pre-arranged a visit by another family member who we don't see very often on our last night we would have left two days earlier. It's listed as dog-friendly; no, it's not. There is a difference between accepting dogs into a property and being appropriate for a dog. In the past when booking dog-friendly places there has been some effort to make the dog welcome; a few biscuits, dog bowl etc but nothing here. There is no enclosed space for the safe exercising of the dog I had asked about this in an email before arriving and was told there was the beer garden but not only was this not enclosed by the drive and car park there were instructions in the property about not having the dog off lead. The welcome 'afternoon tea' we received was only based on two when there were three of us. There were lots of details that were missing which could be overlooked if it wasn't for the huge factor of the poor beds. If you can't sleep sorry but would not recommend and definitely not if you have a dog.

We are so very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay. It is such a shame that practically everything was dissatisfactory for you, which hopefully readers will see is not the norm. Your concerns regarding the saucepans has been rectified, however we have no record of the emails requesting certain rooms being a twin, I dont understand who you emailed? Regarding the beds - they are 3 foot singles, which together make kingsize beds - how you can possibly be upset by the linen on them being too big is beyond me? The dog bowls are in the kitchen sink cupboard and biscuits are available - but you didnt voice any concerns during your stay? The business is open Tuesday to Saturday therefore you had plenty of opportunity to request anything you needed. Regarding asking about enclosed space - had you have been emailing us then we would have advised that we have acres of farmland surrounding us which is open in public footpaths for you take dogs on walks as long as you wished. But we didnt receive any emails from you hence no advise was given on this. The instructions of lead use was due to the fact that our village store has many dogs in and around morning and afternoon walking. The welcome afternoon tea was a full cake, milk, tea and coffee - I dont understand on what basis this was for two not three people as it is aimed at a full house of 6 people. I have tried to cover a few of the above points for the benefot of readers - which will hopefully merely view this review as it is. Again apologies you did not enjoy your stay but unless you voice concern atthe time, we have little opportunity to appease your requests. Best regards The Haughmond Property Owner

  • "This is a great base from which to explore shropshire."

Initially it feels weird hearing people in the beer garden, however when you sit out there it's quite apparent that there is more privacy than you realise when indoors. There's little to see from the beer garden into the barn. The Haughmond was a lovely place to stay and once food service ends it quietens down very quickly. The village shop serves lovely food and the produce was delicious. This place would be perfect if it had a bistro set for the barn guests to use, the pergola proferred much needed shade but there was nothing to sit on in 30degree heat....

It was very comfortable in. a lovely setting The only thing that they struggle with was the washer/dryer. There were manuals for the Microwave and cooker but there was n nothing for the washer/dryer. As I don't have a washer/dryer, I wasn't able to help either. They had to use the dryer but it was taking ages to get them dry and I ended up bringing them back to my house to put on the line or in my dryer. Because there weren't any instructions, we weren't sure that we were using it properly and at one point, I tried to put the dryer on again and it ended up washing everything again and back to where we started Apart from this, they had a fabulous holiday and loved the place. Would definitely recommend it

Perfect amount of space for 6 people. (An extra bathroom would be lovely, but we had a rota which meant we managed fine). I cooked for our guests all week and was relieved to find the kitchen was very well equipped. The welcome pack of foods on arrival was a lovely touch and the beautiful Christmas tree gave me so much joy every day - everyone commented on how lovely it was. The barn itself was very comfortable and well stocked with the amenities needed. It was great to have the pub on site, and we enjoyed an excellent meal with the dog asleep in its bed at our table in the restaurant, and our baby monitor in range so we could have a child-free, grown-up evening meal. On the days when the pub was closed, it was great to have the run of the garden. Walks right from the property were excellent. The only small issue was that the bins from the restaurant smelt quite a bit.

Dining in the Haughmond was marvellous, the food was the tastiest I have eaten in years and each choice sounded so good it was hard to choose. Service and ambience were top notch. • "The property was clean and welcoming, beds lovely and comfy, nice shower and heating worked well, tv large and clear."

Unfortunately a few things let the property down, poor kitchen facilities , oven tricky to use(no instructions for hob and kept going off) oven door doesn't open fully so needed two people to use- one to hold open door while other put food in oven. A mixture of plates/bowls , and in fact only 3 soup/cereal bowls so difficult when there was 4 of us and property sleeps 6. Pans were really bad, bacon and egg stuck solid to pan and was horrendous to clean cheap non stick. Microwave was stuck on top of fridge really difficult to reach and no way could see inside as too high up and far back. Various pieces of furniture broken, handles, chair spindles and draws unable to pull out, so couldn't use the one in my room. No hangers, and finally no instructions or separate bin for recycling so all went in bin. Plus no blind at kitchen window (not good first thing in morning) which looked directly onto pub garden would not like to visit in summer as no privacy. All these things could quite cheaply an easily be rectified improving the property by another star.

  • "A fabulous barn conversion with everything well thought out and catered for all our needs."

It was like home from home, furnished to a very high standard, immaculately clean and just as the website described. The owner was friendly, helpful and available when needed and staff were all helpful and welcoming. The facilities were exceptional, with a cafe/village store across the courtyard, for breakfast/lunch and supplying local produce. The coaching inn onsite too, where we had the most fabulous meal in the restaurant. It was wonderful. We couldn’t fault it. We chose The Barn at The Haughmond as it was dog friendly and we were bringing our 5 month old puppy. I understood from the description on the website that the accommodation had a garden area adjoining the barn. This was to a degree true as the beer garden for the pub was adjacent to the barn, but had no direct access to the garden without leaving the barn. We used the grassed area first thing in a morning and last thing at night, but was not ideal during the day as it would not have been appropriate for beer garden users to tolerate a young pup running around. This was the only criticism (if any) that we found. Apart from this, we would definitely return and use this accommodation again. We had a wonderful week and would like to return to discover more of this lovely part of Shropshire.

5 year olds) The property itself was fine, but seriously under-equipped in the kitchen. (No oven gloves, or anycloths to wash up with, a lot of the plates were too big for the dishwasher, and there were no sensible bowls to name but a few omissions). However the rest of the property lovely. I suspect we were not the owners' target audience - if your ideal holiday is to eat in the pub 10 metres away and not cook, this is a perfect property for you. With three small children in tow, this wasn't really our scene.
