  • "Visited over the Christmas Break and had a wonderful time."

    Property is perfect has everything you need and more all of good quality. The area is great for exploring with good walks and the cottage is only about a 10 minute walk from the town and shops. Good bus service to Buxton if you don’t want to drive and there is a station very nearby. The hosts Jan and Jon were fantastic and checked we had everything we needed, the treats on arrival were a lovely touch so thank you both. Could not have wished for a nicer week away over Christmas, we will be back and recommending Hockerley Cottage to friends and family.

  • "This cottage is one of the best we have stayed in."

    Everything you need and all good quality. Walking distance to Whaley Bridge, with rail station to Buxton and Manchester. A number of walks close by. But many others within a 10 minute drive. We ate at Casa Di Pizza, Whaley Bridge one night, amazing, and The Old Hall, Chinley one lunch time again amazing. Jan and John the owners are lovely and should be proud of this property.

  • "One of the most comfortable, well equipped and relaxing places we’ve ever stayed in."

    Certainly the most comfortable bed - hard to get out of in the morning! The owners are friendly and helpful while also giving their guests space to enjoy their holiday in peace. The extra little treats they provide make you feel welcome and valued. The cottage is in a great location being close to the station with trains to Manchester one way and Buxton the other, but also an easy drive to most areas of the Peak District. Plenty of lovely local walks to be had as well. We loved it.

    The cottage was spotlessly clean. The area is a walkers paradise with walks on the canals, tramway trail, hill walks all from the doorstep. There is also nice villages a short drive away.     The property itself is handily placed to visit most attractions in the area & also very close to the station with trains travelling from Buxton to Manchester. The cottage has all the facilities you could want & more including Sky & a Smart TV which were perfect after a day of exploring the area.     Ideally placed near Buxton for the Peak National Park and other locations easily reached by road. Also convenient for the local rail station for Buxton and Manchester direction and local rural bus services. Whaley Bridge has several eating establishments and the YO YO Chinese a favourite.   • "This cottage proved perfect for our holiday."

    I loved the design with its spacious open plan living area. The bed was so comfortable it made us lie in when we should have been up and about! The separate walk through kitchen is modern and well equipped with integrated appliances. The modern shower room has a large walk in shower with twin heads and plenty of space for someone with mobility issues like myself. The quality of the cottage was also matched with the quality of service. A lovely welcome pack, milk in the fridge and even tabs for the washing machine were just some of the little touches that were appreciated. This cottage exceeded our expectations and is definitely somewhere we will return to . Five stars all round.

    You have your own driveway and a lovely little private garden with table and chairs. The owners have clearly given an enormous amount of thought into the planning and fitting out of Hockley cottage it's a perfect place to stay. We cannot recommend it highly enough. It's perfect.

    The facilities in the cottage are very modern, but there is a notice with full explanations of how things work, which was very helpful to us. Janet the host was very helpful and allowed us to arrive early on the first day., since the previous occupants left the previous Monday. The owner has a dog called Wilson who is lovely and friendly. Very enjoyable break.

The property

Discover your own private escape set on the edge of the Peak District National Park, where this chic and contemporary abode rests for a party of two to settle in for a quiet weekend.

Sat on an elevated land, a sweeping driveway leads you to the front of the ground-floor stone cottage, based close to the owner's property on their grounds, boasting your very own private lawned area through a charming pergola, you'll find a rugged rockery garden, lush shrubbery as well as your own patio space in front of the property where you can sit out and delight in a morning coffee.

The rustic exterior is shifted as soon as you step into the contemporary open-plan room, a large studio layout space in an 'L-shape', with quirky lighting, wood laminate flooring, a bespoke king-size bed, dining and a kitchen area.

Make use of the wall-mounted, swing out Smart TV, complemented with a Sonos speaker and sky channels, you can enjoy a film either tucked up in bed on a lazy morning, or with a bottle of wine on the plush sofa of an evening, there's also a selection of games and books to keep you entertained on a rainy day.

The king-size bed is situated next to natural light seeping in through the bay windows, as well as handy reading lights on each side of the bed for a late night read.

Throw together a fantastic home-cooked meal in the state-of-the-art kitchen, equipped with a washer/dryer, microwave, fridge with Ice box, oven and hob, all surrounded by elegant decór and sleek fittings.

Start your day right in the splendid shower room, a wet room style space with an extremely spacious walk-in shower, accompanied by a funky heated towel rail, an illuminated recess wall and mirror for extra brightness, and an alternative obscured glass window to the side.

Whaley Bridge town centre is just a short stroll away with a range of convenience stores for you to stock up on snacks, as well as local pubs and a few takeaways for a date night inside when you don't feel like cooking.

The historic town of Chapel-en-le-Frith is recognised as the Capital of the Peak, home to a wide selection of boutique shops, lovely cafés, supermarkets, and a golf club, as well as a 13th Century Church, the 18th Century Church Brow, and the Market Place with stocks and ancient cross.

Take a short drive over to New Mills, a thriving town boasting an arts centre, leisure facilities, children's amusement centre, and a train station with links to Buxton and Manchester Picadilly.

For a day of adventure, climb Eccles Pike, an isolated hill with stunning landscape views of the Dark Peak summits, alternatively, avid ramblers can challenge themselves to the Kinder’s moorland plateau as a starting point to the Pennine Way or Snake Pass.

This cottage is a lovely base to visit surrounding Peak District villages such as Bakewell, Ashbourne, and visit landmark attractions including the dramatic Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, limestone caves at Blue John Cavern.

WHALEY BRIDGE

Known as the Gateway to the Goyt Valley, Whaley Bridge is a lovely little town in the High Peak. Passing by the station, with its’ links to Buxton and Manchester Piccadilly, Whaley Bridge town centre is just a short stroll away. A range of local businesses include food and convenience stores. Pubs, restaurants and takeaways in the town provide great options when you don't feel like cooking. Chapel-en-le-Frith, known as the Capital of the Peak, is only a short drive away, boasting a cobbled market place and historic old stocks. Within easy driving distance is the delightful spa town of Buxton, famous not only for its therapeutic spring water, but also for its Pavilion Gardens and splendid Victorian Opera House.
