  • "I am sorry for my delay in giving a review, but since our return from holiday my son has been moving and life has been chaotic!"

I would like to say a big thank you to the owners of the cottage, it was absolutely lovely, a beautiful setting and our short stay with your cottage was lovely. The cottage itself was perfect, especially for my elderly mother who has mobility issues and was able to have the bedroom and the bathroom downstairs which was a great help and ideal for her, and my dog stayed downstairs with her to keep her company. The house keeper (I think her name was Julie) was lovely and extremely helpful, we had an issue with the shower, I messaged her and while we were out at dinner, her and her husband came out to fix it, which was appreciated and promptly dealt with, she was also very helpful is advising places to eat in the local area. Although, we only stayed for a few days we did have a fire, which was wonderful! as we do not have an open fire at all and there is nothing like it, so that was also enjoyed by all. The decor and the furnishing were very tasteful, it was a fab experience and enjoyed by all of us. We would definitely love to come and stay and your wonderful property again. This note is just for the owners? If I were to come on my own or maybe just my mum or my son (not all of us) do you have any smaller properties of the same standard, and also do they have disability facilities like this one did? Thank you again, wish it had been longer, it was hard to fit in all the places we wanted to see. Many Thanks We stayed Sat 19th August until Tuesday 22nd August. Suzi (Herrington) (please do not put my surname in - many thanks)

Dear Suzi, thank you so much for your kind words, which I will pass on in particular to Julie. I am sorry that you had a problem with the shower, but at least it was sorted quickly! I am glad that you enjoyed having the fire! Unfortunately we don't have another cottage, but you will always be welcome to return to Wolvesacre Mill. With thanks and best wishes, Philip and Selina Godsal Property Owner

  • "A beautiful cottage in a really peaceful setting."

The cottage is in a lovely setting, with a babbling brook running through it and lots of green space. It has rustic charm but still includes everything you need for cooking etc. Our dog is quite nervous, so to be able to have real peace and quiet and plenty of space for her to roam was ideal for us and made a huge difference. There are loads of good walks nearby too. Julie the housekeeper was helpful and the owners friendly too. We'll definitely be booking again.

I am so sorry that I missed thanking you for your comment and kind words, which are much appreciated. I have passed them on to Julie our housekeeper too, as she takes great pride in the place. We much look forward to welcoming you back at some time in the future. With best wishes Philip and Selina Godsal Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage."

The only thing which Lets it down slightly is that the window in the kitchen is missing a latch so you can’t close it. Will certainly use again when we come up to visit my mum nearby

  • "There were positives and negatives of Wolvesacre mill cottage."

The negatives first. The tv whilst a decent size , the guide did not give information and had to keep being turning on and off. The shower needs a curtain as there is nothing to keep the water flowing out into the rest of the room. Although one sofa was adequate and comfortable it’s only a two seater and the chise longue is uncomfortable and unsuitable to sit and watch tv. There were four of us adults that went for Christmas. There were no serving dishes, No serving utensils,no carving knife,no full size carving /chopping board, the oven was very grubby so much so when turned to temperature and the oven door was opened the smoke filled the kitchen and the back door had to be open whilst it was in use. The fry pan,and oven trays had no Teflon left on them and were completely unusable. The garden as nice a space as it was , was unkept and hazardous to our dogs. The private driveway to the property had an array of large and very large pot holes. Had we not been in SUVs we wound of struggled to get to the cottage. Two food caddy bags over Christmas for a week and one black Sack was not enough. For the positives lovely homely warm cottage. Comfortable beds. Well placed for exploring. With some attention to detail would make this cottage great.

  • "We had an amazing time at Wolvesacre Mill Cottage."

The cottage itself is beautiful, extremely clean and very well equipped. It is located in a wonderfully peaceful spot, next to a stream, and we couldn't have wished for more. We found this area great to visit and feel that, in a week, we only scratched the surface of what there is to see and do. The housekeepers were brilliant, giving us lots of advice on what to do and where to go, and were super efficient sorting out a problem with the shower. We would love to go back and couldn't recommend the cottage more.

Thank you so much and delighted that you had such a good time, and also that the housekeepers were able to respond immediately to fix the shower, in our absence. You left the Cottage absolutely spotless which we all appreciate very much when we have a quick change over. We hope very much to welcome you back. Property Owner

  • "This cottage was first class in every degree and proved very comfortable for our stay, a base for walking the Sandstone Trail."

Our only gripe related to sporadic periods of low water pressure and an initial problem with being unable to control the temperature of the shower. However, the owners were very responsive to us reporting these issues and arranged repair immediately.

The beds are so comfortable, the house is very stylish warm and welcoming and has a lovely open fire. We found the cottage very well equipped and we cooked every night including a Sunday lunch! The setting is Perfect for walking and running with a relaxed feeling of peace and quiet but so easy to get to the supermarkets or to Chester. The house sits alone in a lovely big sunny garden with a large outdoor table and chairs where we enjoyed time outside with friends. The housekeeper was amazing and everything we needed was there, it was clean, cosy & warm and was ideal for our party of 6 adults & 2 dogs. The beautiful garden with a little stream at the side was newly fenced and totally safe for the dogs to play outside. The downstairs bedroom & en suite is ideal for elderly or less mobile guests and the upstairs bedrooms had wonderful views over the garden. The outside table & chairs was ideal for al fresco dining and from the cottage we could walk for miles along the canal or through the maize fields & country lanes. A wonderful relaxing holiday in this beautiful cottage...we will be back. Thank you

The property

Whitchurch 3 miles, Malpas 3 miles.

Resting in a rural location on the Welsh side of the bank of the brook which is the border between England and Wales, lies this traditionally-styled detached former miller’s cottage, Wolvesacre Mill Cottage.

This country home-from-home is set on the private Iscoyd Park estate in the quiet hamlet of Agden, near to Whitchurch, and makes a fabulous base for families looking to explore the delights of Cheshire, Shropshire and North Wales.

Accessed down a well-made track, you enter the cottage into the kitchen, complete with a selection of appliances including an electric oven and hob, dishwasher and a handy washing machine and dryer.. Walk on through to discover the dining room and sitting room, boasting a character feel with exposed beams and an alluring open fire for cosy nights on the sofa.

Those with limited mobility can choose the ground-floor double bedroom which benefits from a generous en-suite shower room with Jack-and-Jill access to the dining room. Upstairs plays host to three other double bedrooms, each furnished in an eclectic style and with wardrobe storage. Completing the interior of Wolvesacre Mill Cottage is a large bathroom with double-ended bath, providing you with all the more reason to enjoy a soothing soak at the end of the day.

Surrounding the property are lawned areas where you can sit out for an evening drink.

Wolvesacre Mill Cottage almost adjoins The Maelor Way long distance footpath running from Grindley Brook, where it connects with the Sandstone Trail, South Cheshire Way, the Marches Way and Llangollen canal towpath, 24 miles to the Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail at Bronygarth. There are plenty of local walks ideal for exercising well behaved dogs (the Cottage is within an area of working livestock and dairy farms, and so do bring a lead). Head into the bustling market town of Whitchurch or the attractive village of Malpas, and browse the selection of traditional and specialist shops before settling down for a bite at a café or restaurant/pub if you’re hungrier.

The outdoor enthusiasts of the group can look forward to plenty of walking and cycling opportunities throughout the Cheshire/Shropshire/Welsh border, particularly along the Shropshire Union and Llangollen Canals which offer charming rural waterways for much of its length.

If exploration takes you further afield then you are close to Chester, known for its best preserved medieval walls and ever-popular zoo, as well as Stoke-on-Trent, famous for its thriving pottery industry and family attractions such as Alton Towers and Trentham Estate, Llangollen for its steam heritage railway, on in to the Berwyn Mountains and Snowdonia, and National Trust properties at Chirk Castle, Erddig.or Powys Castle.

Escape to Wolvesacre Mill Cottage for that much-needed break, any time of year.
