  • "Super set of two cottages, which were perfect for a family get together."

We were able to make full use of all the facilities available, and were within easy reach of local areas of interest. Friendly owners, and a welcoming, warm feel to the cottages when we arrived. Thank you.

  • "The Cottage was very comfortable and well equipped."

Beds were good and the kitchen had plenty of space and everything you need. The fridge was a little small for a group of 6. Any problems or questions were addressed by the owners including supplying us with a few bits for cokking that we forgot to bring with us. The description is accurate but I think we found that for our group of 4 adults and 2 children it didn't work so well for us. Having the en suite off the twin room used by the children left 4 adults using the main bathroom. The lounge area was also a bit small for us. It is worth considering the needs of your group before booking. The main frustration was the very poor internet. The signal dropped in and out, cutting off transactions such as paying for tickets for attractions in advance. In the end we had to stop using it and rely on our phones. I suspect this is a symptom of the remote location but if this is an important issue for you then this may not be the right lcoation for you. The cottage is quite remote and the nearest shops and conveniences are a short drive away. All in all a plesant cottage in a pleasant location. Read the description carefully and consider if the unusual layout is for you.

With very secure bike storage. WiFi is a bit slow, but not a problem for us, as we were there to enjoy the country side. The owners were friendly and helpful. Hope to return in the future.

Great for our needs as there was a downstairs bedroom with an en suite shower room as well as two other bedrooms with a bathroom upstairs.

The cottage suited us very well - lots of cooking utensils, comfy sitting area and we could walk from the door into lovely countryside.

  • "We had a great week here and the people are lovely."

There was a problem with the TV which they kindly replaced with a brand new one just in time for the Queen's funeral. There was also a problem with a collapsing bed which was a nuisance but they were proposing to sort it out. The cottage is a bit remote but in a lovely area and relatively convenient for places around Derbyshire. I would be happy to stay again.

Nothing was too much trouble for them. Nuffies Cottage is beautifully furnished, has everything you require ( and if it hadn’t, we were asked to knock at the host’s door to see if they had ) and is very comfortable. The outside patio and seating area catches the afternoon sun and was just what we needed to relax after strenuous walking. Nuffies is a very peaceful and calming place to stay. We’d love to stay again.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our quick trip to the Peak District and our stay at Nuffies was lovely."

Our group was made up of two families, each with four young children between us (all 4 and under). We were very impressed with the provisions from filled soap bottles, extra toilet roll, all the pots/pans and dishes one requires to really make a go of self-catering, and the array of child-friendly plates/bowls/cutlery among other amenities. It was the perfect set-up for both of our families and we were extremely comfortable there. We enjoyed the surrounding views and took a trip over to Thornbridge Hall & Gardens and Bakewell. The host was very helpful and responsive to all our communications and it's an ideal base for exploring the surrounding countryside. We definitely would return again!

  • "We had a wonderful few days at Nuffies Cottage, and received a very warm welcome from our hosts, Jill and Mick."

The cottage has everything you could need, and is very much a home from home. Our eldest son(4) was able to help give milk to two orphan lambs in the barn, which he was over the moon about. Despite the rain, we had enjoyable days out, with lots of puddle jumping! It's a beautiful part of the country. We'll definitely be back to stay at Nuffies Cottage.

  • "We have just returned from a week at Nuffies Cottage, my wife and I, Son and Daughter in law and our 15 month grand daughter."

Just to say from the start, we could not have been happier with our choice of cottage/location/hosts and luckily the weather. You are staying on a working farm, the cottage faces onto a courtyard shared with another holiday let, a cottage occupied by a family member and of course the home of your hosts Gill and Mick. Due to the slope of the land, all downstairs windows face onto the courtyard, upstairs bedrooms have views of the surrounding countryside. It is well sized even for six people with two double bedrooms and a separate bathroom upstairs, kitchen/dining area and lounge area downstairs with a further twin bedroom and en-suite off this main area.. Apart from yourselves and food, just about everything else is provided, in a separate building is a utility room with washing machine and dryer which you are able to use, and various items such as high chairs/ironing board etc. Location is at the top of a hill [hence Hill Top Farm] just over a mile from the A5012 . Aldwark is a very small group of farms, the nearest pub is the Hollybush Inn which is about 1 mile down hill. Consequently any journeys out for a drink or evening meal would need to be by car unless you are quite fit and mobile. This was not a problem for us as we ate in every evening with our young grand daughter and the kitchen is fully equipped with oven/hob/microwave. All in all, if you are looking for a quiet stay in wonderful surroundings you could do a lot worse than stay with Gill and Mick, sadly even they cannot guarantee the weather but we were more than lucky with our weeks worth of bright sunshine.

Mrs Harrison was lovely and friendly. The heating was on when we got there which was very welcome. This place is very high up almost in the back of beyond but also more accessible to local places than we first realised. Would be beautiful in the spring/summer time and be able to sit out and listen to the silence. Lovely.

About the location

WINSTER

Bakewell 6 miles; Matlock 4.5 miles.

The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.
