  • "Overall, the cottage accommodation was really good in terms of cleanliness, comfort and location."

Could not fault that at all. Lack of recycling facilities was a concern- I was told by someone at the hotel that everything went into one bin. I ended up taking the recycling to the recycling centre in Ashbourne. Main letdown was with lack of cooking dishes - there was nothing suitable for cooking roast dinners, pasta bakes etc. Thankfully we took our slow cooker but ended up having to buy a cooking dish. The knives for food preparation were not particularly effective.

  • "Newton House Apartment is in a good location for the Tissington trail and next to the Newton house hotel if you don’t want to drive to a restaurant."

The apartment was not the one described on the Sykes Website but it is a recently refurbished ground floor apartment to an OK standard but lacking finishing touches like cleaning the paint splashes off the furniture and removing the excess grout on the shower tiles. What disappointed us was the cleanliness of the apartment especially the one shelf to store clothes was covered in dirt and dust. The Kitchen only has very basic supplies making cooking at the apartment difficult and we ended up eating out apart from breakfast. There is an oven but no oven gloves, trays or oven proof dishes making the oven pretty useless. There is a portable 2 ring induction hob but the saucepan supplied would not work on the induction hob. There is no chopping board, no cleaning cloths, no tea towels etc. There are no guidebooks and very little information about the apartment or surrounding area. This has the potential to be a good property but at the moment it is well below the standard we are used to with Sykes cottages.

Thank you for your feedback, I am very sorry to hear that you were unhappy with The Apartment here at Newton House. The Pictures on the website are of the actual Apartment, which is ground floor. We want all customers to enjoy their stay with us and always encourage guests to point out any issues that may arise during their stay so these can be rectified immediately! I'm very sorry you felt that The Apartment was not sufficiently equipped; we have since checked the supplies provided and found many of these items you have mentioned in a kitchen cupboard; we will endeavour to make this more clear for our future guests. With regards to the guides for the area, these are situated in the main Hotel which are available for everyone to take, however, we have now added a selection to the welcome pack. Thanks again for your feedback, we hope you will stay with us again in the future! Property Owner

  • "The apartment is in a great location with easy access to the Tissington Trail."

Staff in the hotel were very helpful and ensured that we had a comfortable stay, having a bar and restaurant on site was a bonus.

About the location

TISSINGTON

Bradbourne 2.6 miles; Ashbourne 5 miles; Chatsworth House 17.6 miles

Tissington is a beautiful little village in the Peak District National Park. Famous for its well dressings, Tissington invites you to come along and soak up the atmosphere of this well-managed estate village with its duck pond, quaint cottages, church, tea rooms and impressive old hall. It's a very pretty village and a perfect place from which to enjoy the many sights of the Peak District. A fabulous area for outdoor pursuits, the Tissington Trail cycle path is located close by, little over a mile to the east of the village. Dovedale, one of England's photographed beauty spots with its iconic stepping stones, is close by and must not be missed! There are many varied walks, climbing opportunities and cycle routes in the area, and this is also an ideal base for days out at Alton Towers, impressive Chatsworth House, or enjoying the watersports at Carsington Water. The nearby market town of Ashbourne, once a fashionable social centre of the 18th century, boasts an eccentric street plan, with charming cobbled alleyways littered with old market stalls and welcoming coaching inns. Many fine Georgian buildings remain, hosting a good selection of restaurants, wine bars and interesting antique shops.
