Only complaint is that it was a little hard to figure out where the house actually was from the address given.

  • "Spacious and comfortable property."

We enjoyed the many local walks and eateries, particularly the Ramblers Retreat, Denstone Hall cafe and farm shop and the Talbot pub. Hetty's tea room at Froghall Wharf, a delightful cafe, we had coffee and cakes even though closed (Wednesdays). Thank you to the owners for the welcome pack and quick fix with a TV problem. We managed to park in the road opposite but loading and unloading was tricky re traffic on a bend, slope and weather. The property was well equipped, and the beds were comfy. Some furnishings changes have been made since the photos on Sykes' website were taken eg chimney breast is now dark blue. Some cleanliness issues but overall a very enjoyable week.

  • "Very nice property, very well equipped and dog friendly."

The small enclosed courtyard was particularly useful for that. Whilst it has no parking, there is no problem in parking in the lane opposite, (we have a large vehicle), and given the position of the cottage, we would have chosen to park there anyway. We weren't there for Alton Towers, but it is very nearby, (you can just about hear the Roller Coaster screams!), but very convenient for the Peak District. An enjoyable and comfortable stay.

  • "From arrival to departure our stay was all that we hoped for."

To begin with the welcome pack was very much appreciated. The property was lovely and ideal for the four of us and the dog (enclosed garden meant the dog was safe to wander). There was a problem with the TV when we arrived, we contacted our hosts straight away that evening and by the following day they were sorting it (not as if we were planning to watch much TV anyway). Alton is ideally situated for Alton Towers, the local pubs are good, Denstone Hall Farm Shop and Ramblers Retreat Cafe are worth a visit and there are a few local walks which we took too. Although the parking is over the road and at the time there were some roadworks there we still managed to find parking each time it came for us to park.

Alton is a delight and full of marvellous nooks and crannies with great pubs and walks. We would love to come back again and thanks again to the owners for their welcome. Mike

It was the perfect place for the 6 of us, the bathroom was lovely and spacious and on entering the house was lovely and warm-something that was definitely noted as usually when you are going to stay somewhere you met with cold on entering. There were plenty of utensils-everything you could ever need, except I couldn’t find a blender. Plenty of towels left for us. We were given a lovely bottle of wine and biscuits which I thought was so sweet and thoughtful. Will definitely be returning!

Brilliant host, who contacted us early on the day we were due to arrive to let us know about a power cut after the overnight storm, he updated us with the situation during the day to avoid us getting to the cottage before electricity was back on. We agreed to delay arrival for a day and he kindly arranged to get our grocery delivery collected and refridgerated as necessary and a generous refund for the delayed delivery. We enjoyed lots of walks directly from the village and we were made to feel very welcome not only by the owner but all the villagers we met as we left the house. It was indeed a home from home.

Hughe well equipped kitchen diner and lovely little enclosed courtyard garden. Especially liked the wood burner. The bedrooms were spacious and the kids loved the attic room. Had to park over the road which was busy crossing at time’s with our young children, and the road noise was quite loud when the windows were open, but expected with the location. Great base to explore the surrounding area and lovely local pubs within walking distance. Really near for Alton towers visits. We would advise to taxi there rather than take the car (like we did!) to save on the parking and long walk to and from the park! Really enjoyed our stay and would return!

The only thing we found difficult was the parking that was over the busy road but it does say there is no parking so it's not a negative to the owners just a little warning if you need parking. It had a great location, in the lovely village of Alton, with a pub (serving great food) & shop around the corner. It's a 5 minute drive from Alton Towers too. The house itself was very clean, welooming & accommodating. It had everything we needed & also included a welcome of some food bits & milk - which was very handy arriving at night time. There was wood provided for the open fire, lots of games/books/dvds, and even a playstation & games in the upstairs room. We had to call the number provided to ask for assistance near the end of our stay, and the phone was answered promptly and dealt with, we were even offered a later check out stay due to the issue. We wouldnt hesitate in recommending Ash House or returning - which we hope to next year.

There were 4 adults 2 children and 1 infant, along with 2 little dogs (permission given by owners in advance). Despite this number, we had plenty of space, and were all very comfortable. Lots of little extra touches making it very homely. Beautiful area, with lots to do around, literally 10 mins from Alton towers. As stated, there is a busy road to cross to get to car, as you have to park opposite the house, but we did it with 2 children, an infant, pushchair and 2 dogs with no problems at all! I cannot praise this property highly enough, we will definitely be returning.

We love the location, right in the heart of Alton, close to the Bull's Head and the local store. It has all the comforts of home, including comfy beds, a real fire, fully equipped kitchen, games, books and DVDs for cosy nights in. Note the third bedroom is accessed via stairs within the second bedroom – great for families, but might compromise the privacy of groups of friends. Parking is across the road, but this was no problem. There's a washing machine and drier in the garage, which was handy. Alton is a nice little village, worth visiting for more than the Towers. It's worth stopping at Denstone Farm Shop to fill the larder.

Making it difficult to cook. The parking was an issue, as we were told we could load and unload on the drive, but before we had chance to take one bag out, we were met by an irate lady shouting for us to move the car NOW!!! We tried to explain what we had been told, which she said was incorrect and she was going to get her solicitors involved. Not a nice start to the holiday at all. Other than that was ok. Good sized kitchen for hosting, cosy living area and decent sized bedrooms. The beds were really comfortable, including the camp bed in the attic. Fully equipped kitchen had all you would want and a lovely welcome hamper which went down a treat. The only downside was there were only 5 outside seats for the six of us and there were a lot of persistent pesky wasps in the sitting area outside. This can be a deal breaker for customers and that there are disputes over whether you can park on the shared access for 5 mins to load/unload. The place was very much more like a home than a holiday cottage, which made holidaying with young kids that much easier. They also left us a welcome pack which included a bottle of wine, which after forgetting to pack any and having a nightmare day with kids before getting there, was a real life saver. Very close to Alton towers (5 mins drive maximum), and 15 mins from peak wildlife park which was a great day out with the kids. Also if you had kids and want somewhere nearby to take kids to ride bike and scooters and feed ducks only 10 mins drive from nice lake next to JCB lakeside club. Free and lovely on a nice day.
