  • “Fantastic cottage, the owner went out of his way to think of little touches that really made it a home from home.”

    Hope to come back soon.

Corner House Farm Cottages

Two beautiful cottages set on the edge of the lovely village of Ashover in the valley of the River Amber, midway between Chesterfield and Matlock. The cottages are both over 200 years old and have been sympathetically renovated to provide modern living whilst preserving the original features. Ashover, Village of the Year in 2005, is one of the prettiest villages in Derbyshire and lies in the valley of the River Amber between Matlock and Chesterfield. Ashover was mentioned in the Domesday Book crediting the village with a church, a priest, several ploughs and a mill, with a taxable value of 30 shillings! It is also said that the village is home to a couple of ghosts, including the Laughing Cavalier who haunts the Black Swan! There is a huge choice of activities and days out within the area which lies on the edge of the Peak District National Park. For history buffs there are Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall, and the jewel in the crown; Chatsworth House and Estate. Haddon Hall was once described as ‘the most perfect English house to survive from the Middle Ages’ and it is now a very popular filming location. The Peak District was Britain’s first national park and the limestone and rugged upland terrain provides an endless scope for walking, cycling, horse riding, climbing, caving and so much more. According to the philosopher Thomas Hobbes back in 1636, there are seven wonders in this area; Poole’s Cavern and St Anne’s Well in Buxton, Peak Cavern and Mam Tor in Castleton, the Ebbing and Flowing Well in Tideswell, Eldon Hole and Chatsworth. All still very popular visitor attractions today. For families, Gulliver's Kingdom and Alton Towers make for a great day out. This area really does have something to offer everyone who visits.
