  • "The flat is well equipped and we received a lovely welcome pack."

However, whilst on the surface the flat seemed clean on looking further we could see this was not the case. The internal window frames were very grubby and the frames inside when windows were open were filthy. The main bedroom wardrobe was grubby inside and needs decorating. The bottom slides for the wardrobe doors were filthy. There is an underlying smell which could only be put down to stale cigarette smoke which must have got into all of the fabrics. A deep clean and redecorate would help immensely. The settees are really uncomfortable and do not support you, as has been mentioned by others. They badly need replacing.

  • "Lovely welcome hamper on arrival."

Very comfortable and cosy LARGE sofas - we loved them. Great nights' sleep in the main bedroom (didnt use the single room). Might be an idea to have been left instructions on how to use the electric radiators. Would have also preferred blinds in the living room and bedrooms for privacy because you can't close the curtains when the radiators are on (it was a little chilly in the morning but that's October weather I guess!). Short walk down into Buxton centre, although a bit of a steep walk on the way back - not a problem for us, but may be for some. Overall, really enjoyed our short stay, would definitely recommend Doves Nest and would love to return!

  • "My husband and I spent a week in this lovely little first floor flat which is about a 10 minute stroll into Buxton although a bank to climb on the way back."

Flat was clean and provides a well equipped kitchen. Bathroom is compact but has ample storage. Bed in double room is extremely comfortable and there is plenty wardrobe space. Pleasant lounge with dining table, sofas are probably a bit low for us but it's personal preference. Added benefit of private parking. Kerry was an excellent host and easily contactable, leaving a very generous hamper on our arrival....thank you .Would definitely recommend staying at this accommodation.

  • "Very clean and very well equipped, the property was extremely comfortable."

The friendly owner also provided a very comprehensive 'welcome pack;' that was much appreciated. Off-road parking was a bonus. Located in a quiet residential area, it's only a 10 minute stroll into Buxton. The double bed was incredibly comfortable, unlike the sofas. We enjoyed our time in Buxton (despite the weather!) and would definitely stay at Doves Nest again

  • "We had such a lovely stay we didn't want to come home."

Property was perfect for us. The area around us so beautiful as we visited Mam Tor, Monsal Trail and even took the train to Sheffield. Very quiet residential road didn't hear or see neighbours. Easy to arrange key collection and had own parking space (off road). Everything in property that we needed and the welcome pack was an extra added bonus. Thank you we will be back.

  • "Comfortable property and a great base for touring the Peak District."

Buxton has many decent bars and restaurants as well as the Opera House and decent shops (incl Waitrose). A short walk into town although uphill on the way back, but it is Buxton after all!

Comfortable and welcoming. A bit of a walk into the centre of Buxton, but we really enjoyed that. Safe and easy parking for the car. Thanks. Would book again.

  • "The Doves Nest apartment is gorgeous and decorated so beautifully."

The owners also left a thoughtful hamper with some snacks and prosecco, as well as some milk and orange juice in the fridge, which was just what we needed after a long drive and late arrival! The entire apartment was perfectly clean and tidy, and the bedding was so cosy and comfy. The location is ideal for exploring Buxton (approx 3 min drive to the town centre) and surrounding areas. I would definitely recommend the Doves Nest.

  • "Good communication from friendly owner."

Thanks for the flowers, biscuits and wine. Nice refurbished bathroom and kitchen, well equipped. Nice to see a Blu-ray player as I took some discs with me. I was hill walking every day and really needed a boot tray inside the door and a drying rack for my wet clothes. Unfortunately the storage in the main bedroom inadequate, the lowest shelf was level with my eyes and very poor drawer space. Don’t understand why there isn’t a chest of drawers and better dressing table. Storage in single bedroom also v limited. Heating was from storage heaters so had to use the plug-in spare electric heater a lot, don’t know how warm the place would be in winter. There were no instructions left for anything which wasn’t helpful eg no idea what to put in what bin, where switch was for bathroom fan or how storage heaters worked.

It was clean and comfortable and Kerry, the hostess, was great to deal with. She had added a number of little extras that were much appreciated - welcome basket, fresh flowers and plenty of loo rolls to name but a few. It's about a 10-15 minute walk into the town which was also good.

  • "Lovely place to stay."

We thought it would have been handy to have a folder with local takeaways and restaurants though, understandably people do use Trip Advisor or Google but it would still be quite handy. Also, it may be worth mentioning that there is a booster button for the hot water in the bedroom cupboard and a bathroom fan switch above the bathroom door. Also, places we have previously stayed had a book for reviews from previous occupants. Overall, it was a lovely place to stay (no DVD player, DVD's or books as advertised on the blurb though). We would recommend and stay again. Lovely touch with the food parcel, milk in fridge, tea, coffee etc on our arrival, much appreciated. Also lovely roses on the dining table.

About the location

BUXTON

  • Tideswell 7 miles
  • Bakewell 12 miles
  • Matlock 21 miles

It was the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling blue waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs that originally attracted the Romans to the town. However it was during the 18th and 19th centuries, under the patronage of successive Dukes of Devonshire, that the Palladian splendour of the Buxton of today was designed and built - including the magnificent semi-circular Crescent, The Great Stable, Hall Bank, The Square, The Pavilion Gardens and The Opera House. Today visitors continue to enjoy these magnificent buildings and gardens, as well as the Opera House's full programme and annual festivals of music and arts. There is good walking close by with rugged peaks to the north and gentle hills and dales to the south and a number of pretty towns and villages are dotted throughout including Bakewell, Ashford-in-the-Water, Castleton and Edale. The stunning properties of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy driving distance and must be seen while visiting this area. A great base for exploring the Peak District.
