“We liked this cottage a lot.”

It had a lot of charm and character, and was nicely furnished and fininshed. It was easy to find and in the centre of the town so getting out and about was a doddle. The owner was great about letting us know where we could park for free, as there is only time limited parking outside (it is in the busy town centre). Lots of choice of places to eat and drink almost on the doorstep - at least two pubs within a hundred yards serving food, as well as takeways and cafes and the start of the ...

It had a lot of charm and character, and was nicely furnished and fininshed. It was easy to find and in the centre of the town so getting out and about was a doddle. The owner was great about letting us know where we could park for free, as there is only time limited parking outside (it is in the busy town centre). Lots of choice of places to eat and drink almost on the doorstep - at least two pubs within a hundred yards serving food, as well as takeways and cafes and the start of the Tissington trail only a few minutes walk away. My only downside was the stairs which had no rail and I found steep and a little uneven, but my adult children had no such worries and let me have the bedroom on the middle floor to mitigate this.

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 14 miles.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th century, the town was a fashionable social centre and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by. Alton Towers is just 20 minutes away.
