  • "Lovely stay, convenient location with great parking."

Small apartment, but had everything we needed. Took my own hairdryer as one not listed but there was one at the property, would suggest removing sideboard in entrance and replacing with coat and shoe storage, and providing egg cups and a few more drink coasters. Welcome pack was appreciated.

Hi Helen, Thanks for the lovely feedback! We are looking at adding extra shoe and coat storage, and will also arrange coasters and egg cups. Best wishes, Jane. Property Owner

The apartment was beautifully decorated and so comfortable. Ashbourne and the surrounding area are lovely and the locals are warm and welcoming. It was great having a parking space as the market square is so busy. It was a pleasure dealing with Jane and we will definitely return and recommend to family and friends.

  • "Small but perfectly formed!"

Beautifully renovated apartment in the middle of Ashbourne, including private parking. Spotlessly clean with good quality furnishings. The living area has a very comfortable sofa and an armchair plus a small dining table. The kitchen is well equipped - induction hob, dishwasher and wine chiller all included! All basic cleaning items were provided and listed in advance which made packing so much easier. Super comfortable bed - this is the first time I can remember not longing to be back in my own bed! A bit of a tight squeeze getting round the bed but worth it for the comfort. Both the living area and the bedroom have air con. This is certainly a good thing as far as noise is concerned - the only downside of this apartment is the traffic noise, particularly if you live on a tiny cul de sac as we do where more than 2 cars an hour is heavy traffic! The bathroom has a lovely big shower, underfloor heating and a heated towel rail. I have never seen so much storage in a holiday rental, and it all looks like it should be there rather than the usual 'dump a cupboard here, a chest of drawers there' and never mind if they don't match. Overall a beautiful apartment with a really helpful owner (Jane) and much appreciated wine and chocolates waiting for us.

Thanks for the lovely review. We recently had a new sofa and bed, and guests are very pleased with the comfort they provide! Best wishes, Jane Property Owner

  • "Comfortable."

We were ‘snowbound’ one day so we were happy to stay in and did a jigsaw we bought from one of shops in town. Enjoyed the view of the market square from our rooms. Appreciate the chocs & wine from the owner though we didn’t use it during our stay. We would love to return back one day.

Hi Janice, many thanks for the lovely feedback. Thank you for staying with us. We hope you do return and that this time there's no snow! Best wishes, Jane Property Owner

  • "The property is nicely decorated, suitably laid out with a well equipped kitchen and bathroom, and spotlessly clean."

It is also in a great location to walk to facilities in Ashbourne, or cycle into the Peak District. Inclusion of washing up liquid/dishwasher tablets, tea/coffee and Prosecco were appreciated. It is however let down by the bed which we found uncomfortable (which was not helped with the mattress being on upside down) and is also too large for the room, making it difficult navigate to the far side. Equally the the sofa, which is a sofa bed, is uncomfortable and the cushions do not stay in place. Though not something that can be changed, given the properties location, and inclusion of air con to allow windows to stay closed, we did find the level of external noise was greater than anticipated given we live on a relatively busy road (be it from local pubs at weekends nights, road noise from significant numbers of HGV's from early morning and a pedestrian crossing) this impacted our ability to fully relax.

Hello Paul, Many thanks for the feedback. This week, we've had acoustic glazing fitted to the bedroom at Dovedale and the good news is that it works very well, without impacting on the view across the Market Place that guests enjoy so much. We've also had a brand new sofa and mattress. Best wishes, Jane Property Owner

  • "Extremely clean apartment with an excellent location."

We found the apartment had everything you needed but in short supply, enough plates but only 4 cups and likewise cutlery which meant you needed to run a dishwasher half full. We found the bed really comfortable and lovely and warm however, for us the sofa was uncomfortable - the cushions didn't stay in place. Lovely welcome pack and overall a lovely break.

Hello Eric, many thanks for the review. I am glad you had a lovely stay! We will add more mugs and cutlery. I'll also take a look at the cushions. We might need bigger ones to keep them in place better. Many thanks, Jane Property Owner

The apartment is very clean and everything looks new. The only negative comment I feel I must make was the bed, which we found quite uncomfortable as it dipped in the middle, but apart from this everything was great.

  • "A really nice apartment right in Ashbourne town centre."

Very well equipped and beautifully clean. It's location means there's inevitably a bit of traffic and town noise, but that's more compensated by the convenience (amazing how easy it was to while away a morning drifting from coffee shop to tea shop !) and a nice view from the windows. Ashbourne is really convenient for Dovedale and the Peak District and is only an hour from Sheffield. Lots of great walking, cycling eating and drinking available. We booked for a week and stayed for two, which probably says everything you need to know !

  • "Apartment is set above a shop directly in the centre of Ashbourne."

The access is via a pin entry system and works well. The apt itself is extremely well appointed. Many fixtures and fittings are of a very high standard. The living area consists of a lounge dining area. There are smart TVs in both the lounge and bedroom and you can gain access to Netflix. The kitchen is of a very high standard with many quality integrated appliances (yes including a dishwasher and wine cooler). The bathroom, in line with the rest of the apt is very well appointed with a massive walk in shower with plentiful hot water. The bedroom has plenty of storage space with wardrobe (plenty of hangers) ,drawers and bedside tables. There are many sockets in order to charge any electrical items you may have. Also both the lounge and bedroom have air con......yes air con !!!!. You also have an allocated parking. Awaiting us on our arrival was a bottle of wine plus chocolates, a lovely touch and much appreciated. The owner was a great communicator and sent us all necessary details including a link to a youtube clip with directions to the carpark . As stated earlier its right in the centre of Ashbourne and therefore people who are light sleepers may experience some road noise. This however didn't affect us after many long days walking in the beautiful countryside. Ashbourne itself is a great base for many fantastic walks in the local area. To sum up, a great apt in a great area. Many thanks Jane for your hints & tips they were much appreciated

  • "We stayed for a week at Dovedale."

It was the perfect location for Ashbourne with everything you could possibly need nearby - a great baker, a butcher, fruit and veg shop, plus a whole range of cafes and tearooms. The off road parking was very welcome, and we were no more than 30 minutes away from all the places we wanted to visit in the Peak District. The apartment itself was equipped with everything we needed. A wonderful rainfall shower in a beautiful bathroom with heated towel rail. A well appointed kitchen with wine chiller, dishwasher, induction hob plus underfloor heating which was very welcome in the mornings. The whole apartment was furnished to a very high standard with a comfortable sofa and armchair, a Smart TV, great wifi, plus a range of natural wood furniture. The bedroom had plenty of storage and a comfy bed. The owner contacted us with an information pack and provided wine and chocolates for our arrival. We absolutely loved staying at Dovedale, it was a fabulous place to relax, and we would highly recommend it as a great place for couples to stay. We would love to visit again.

Recently renovated to a very high standard. Bed was comfy, kitchen well equipped, huge shower, welcome gift and parking on site. The only drawback was noise from the town square and road. We did expect noise in this location, but found that heavy lorries passed by at all hours and bin lorries early in the morning. The area was beautiful, we enjoyed cycling the Tissington Trail, Dovedale, Thorpe and Ilam.

Our apartment, Derbyshire House in Ashbourne was awesome - great modern facilities in a fantastic location (overlooking the town square). Attention to detail - including video directions to free onsite parking and a modern well equipped kitchen meant we had a great holiday with good access to some of our favourite places in Derbyshire. Jane was a wonderful host and replied promptly to all our correspondence and went over and above in quickly sourcing us a high chair for our baby when we asked if there was one available to use. As you would expect from an apartment overlooking one of the main roads through Ashbourne and the market square, there can be some traffic noise from the lorries driving through quite early in the morning and some noise from the pubs on the square but neither interfered with us having a good night’s sleep.

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 15.7 miles; Bakewell 16.6 miles; Chatsworth 20.4 miles.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th-century, the town was a fashionable social centre, and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by and for thrill seekers Alton Towers with its exciting collecting of rides and attractions is just a short drive away.
