The village centre consists of an old square and a village green with a Second World War memorial. Its slightly larger neighbour, Youlgreave, is a pretty village with traditional old pubs and village stores, and was once the centre of the Derbyshire lead-mining industry. Nearby, Bakewell is an attractive old market town, extremely popular with visitors and offering a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a frequent local market and farmers' market. The area is situated within the Peak District National Park and ideally placed for both walkers and cyclists exploring this beautiful region, as the Tissington Trail and Monsal Trail run nearby. Alton Towers, Britain's premier theme park, is only a short drive away and there are many stately homes to visit - Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, to mention but a few.
