  • "This a lovely cottage set in a small village."

A very nice kitchen with with everything you need. Cosy room with dvds and games. Great size bedrooms with the main room having a four poster bed. Everything was clean. Loved seeing the Ducks and Swans at the bottom of the garden. Lovely 12th century church across road, which we looked around. Accessible busses from village to go to other places, Derby and Buxton. The pub across the road The Black Bull do great food. There's also tearooms nearby and a shop.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and we much appreciate your wonderful review of our cottage. Thank you so much. Property Owner

It is more like 40 mins. Nice local pub in village for an evening drink.

We are so glad you enjoyed the stay and the location. Bakewell is only round the corner but when you are walking, you are quite right it is around 30 to 40 mins walking through the fields. We will get this adjusted with Sykes. Thank you so much for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "We chose the cottage for its location and ease of travel with Saturday to Saturday availability."

There is a decent pub, tearoom and small shop/newsagent close by in the village. Several good walks, such as to Monsal Head, can be made without resorting to the car. Nearby Bakewell is a pleasant town and the Thornbridge Brewery and Taproom has a superb range of beers and their own pizzas. The house is comfortable, but no frills (or welcome pack) and very limited supplies of soap etc. Only the main bedroom TV worked consistently. The green house seating was locked. Watching the birds on the river was fascinating - with Little Grebe, Kingfishers, Mergansers and many more. We had an excellent holiday and can recommend Willow Cottage.

Hi, Many thanks for your feedback. I am sorry that we fell short in some areas and we will of course address these urgently. I must admit that we tend not to supply soap, as most people bring their own choice of soap with them. Also we have not provided a welcome pack since the Covid crisis as we were advised to to do this. I will of course check the TV in the bedroom. The key for the greenhouse should be on with the main key. Many thanks again for your comments. Kind regards, Mrs Collins Property Owner

The village is beautiful with pub, cafe and shop and walks straight from the cottage. We even sat outside, with our coats on though, and fed the cheeky ducks. We would definitely recommend it to anyone we’re sure they would not be disappointed.

  • "We had a really lovely stay at Willow Cottage, our 2 children (age 13 & 11) actually really enjoyed feeding the ducks that came into the back garden from the river everyday!"

The house was well equipped, comfortable and very clean. There are a couple of maintenance issues that need some attention such as the dishwasher door is very stiff and it feels like you’re going to break it every time it’s opened, there was one drawer in the tall boy in the main bedroom that wouldn’t open and it would have been nice to be able to use at least some of the wardrobe in the twin room to hang clothes up. However these are very minor things and we had a really lovely stay at the cottage.

Hi, Many thanks for your review, I just wanted you to now that we have addressed the hanging and storage space in the twin room and this now provides space to hang clothes. Also, we are sorry that you could not access the Greenhouse, as it is a lovely place to sit, near the river and to watch the wildlife. Unfortunately one of our customers took away the key and did not return it. We have now unlocked the greenhouse and will leave it unlocked. Many thanks again for your comments, it is always helpful to us. Property Owner

My only negative point would be that the listed gas barbecue wasn’t there anymore and the small greenhouse could do with a bit of tlc just for visual content whilst enjoying the perfect rear garden and river. So glad to have stayed here, perfect, thank you

  • "This is a lovely cottage and generally well equipped."

It would have been nice to have slightly bigger drinking glasses i.e. pint sized ones and also the TV in the front bedroom took quite sometime to get a signal. we had to move the indoor aerial and tuck it on top of the doorway to get any sort of signal. These are very minor quibbles and overall we were delighted with the property. We had to speak to the owner to get extra bedding as we had guests at short notice and she sorted this out for us really efficiently and with no fuss, so our thanks to her for that.

Would be even better with a 6ft bed in the main room. Twin room very cramped and noisy with boiler in there so didn't use. Great sofas with high backs and lovely fire. Was very chilly the first night especially in bedrooms, as think most probably been empty for few weeks. Did have to turn up boiler temperature for first two days until house warmed up again. Lovely situation for walks, would use again in warmer weather.

Hi, Many thanks for your feedback, I have now set the boiler for all day so that it just comes on automatically when the temperature drops. Property Owner

I was a little worried it would not be big enough for a family of 5 adults but there was plenty of room. The location was excellent too - a great base for exploring the surrounding area and in the heart of a gorgeous village. If I was being super picky I would say the bed was way too soft - but that’s only because I suffer from a bad back. I have already recommended this property to a friend.

  • "The cottage was extremely comfortable and well equipped."

The location was outstanding with the river at the bottom of the garden and a lovely decking area for sitting out, sharing the space with the ducks. The "greenhouse" was also useful for late afternoon sun. The location is ideal as a centre for walking and hiking through the area, with the Monsal Trail withing easy reach. It was disappointing that the Ashford Arms, the Riverside House Hotel and the village shop are all closed at the moment. There are a few light bulbs that need replacing e.g. in the kitchen and the shower.

  • "Willow Cottage was lovely and beautifully located next to the River Wye."

There is a little road noise but not too bad. We could also hear the ducks, which was nice. The house was very clean throughout and well supplied with everything we needed. The laundry arrangements made us feel safe (I was a bit nervous about travelling during Covid). The TV in the village view bedroom was very pixellated and kept freezing but I didn't want to watch much TV so it wasn't a problem. The house is really centrally located in the Peak District for sightseeing. We visited Chatsworth, Buxton, Mondal Dale, Castleton, Tideswell, Tissington, Bakewell and more. There's a pub in the village - The Bull's Head is within a one-minute walk (but wasn't at all noisy). The Ashford Arms, which is also close by, has sadly ceased trading recently. The small village shop is changing hands from end August 2020 and was only open for ice creams at the weekend whilst we were there but will be very handy when it opens up for business again. The welcome letter could be updated to reflect the changing situation. We loved having the garden and it was lovely to have somewhere to sit outside in the sunshine. We ordered a Tesco delivery on arrival, though there's an Aldi just a mile or two down the road and Bakewell has a couple of supermarkets (parking can be very busy in Bakewell).

We took the bus to Bakewell, Matlock and Buxton with ease. The beds were very comfortable. The Bathroom was fine except that the extractor fan did not work, so we had to open the window. This made the room rather chilly. The location is wonderful; having the river behind the house was a joy to see. We loved the tea room, the Bull's head and the shop. All in all, it was a great holiday.

Very nicely appointed cottage, enjoyed watching the ducks and swans on the river. Great to have smart TV with Netflix for the children. Some instructions on rubbish/recycling might have been helpful. Only slightly negative comment is on the beds, especially the master bedroom. The mattress was extremely soft (though of good quality) and if you are used to a firmer mattress, like I am, it caused havoc with my back!! In my experience of rentals/hotels I think it is better to have a firmer/orthopaedic mattress.

Cottage great. Warm clean good bedding, lots of towels, comfortable sofas. Garden pretty and river views a bonus. Would definitely book again. Only slight negatives for owner are in kitchen area to adjust are saucepans very tired scratched. No clean scourers//cloths . Only 2 dishwasher tablets and no washing powder also. O usual supply of foil and cling film and only enough washing up liquid for one wash. Seems petty but for the price of property would usually find these things provided.
