  • "Very pleasant and comfortable cottage."

It has all the facilities you need. Although quite a short walk to the town centre, be aware that whichever route you take the road is steep. I wouldn’t recommend for the elderly or infirm.

  • "A delightful property half way up a small hill in the centre of Bakewell, very close to the centre of town, only a 5 minute walk tops."

But it is a bit of a steep walk back, so depending on your fitness, this may be a factor. Otherwise the ideal location, there's parking for either 2 small cars or one family sized vehicle. The property was spotless inside, and had everything we could need for our stay. It does only have the one bathroom, and no extra toilet, so for 6 people, this could be a challenge, but it was fine for our group of 3, and we all got to have our own delightful bedroom. Would highly recommend, and would return if we were in the area. Our favourite place for eating out was The Rutland Hotel on the corner by the roundabout. The chef cooked me a individual meal due to my allergy and being Vegan. And it was delicious.

The description of parking for two small cars was a stretch. It also should explain that there is no permit to park on the road outside. We felt a bit mislead.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you feel you were mislead. There is room for 2 small cars on the drive as other guests have commented on before, it is tight but can be done. Also my information document I sent to you on 23/10 via email advises about the parking situation. 'Beware - The traffic wardens in Bakewell are very keen, and a lot of the streets are residents parking only, please use the drive and don't park on the road outside. This road is also extremely narrow and prone to cars getting scraped!' I will update this document to ensure that future guests are aware that there is NOT a parking permit available for use. Location absolutely fantastic Overall absolutely fantastic Will definitely return. Congratulations to the owner for providing such a lovely relaxing abode to visit. The only negative was the parking on the front it was described as suitable for 2 small cars. I think 2 Smart cars would struggle to park in the space. The road is narrow where the property is located so you have to be careful where you park.

  • "A charming, well-equipped, nicely furnished and very clean cottage set in the picturesque village of Bakewell."

We were very impressed on arrival and appreciated the off road parking (and bottle of wine). As stated in the description, this cottage is near the top of a steep hill but I dreaded the albeit short walk back from the village centre more as each day passed. Taking a detour through the churchyard definitely helped. Things that could have improved our stay: We take UK cottage breaks each year and the standard arrival time is 4pm and departure 10am so we were disappointed that we couldn’t arrive before 5pm and had to vacate by 9am. Also the cottage is described as dog friendly but a week before our stay the owner sent us useful instructions which stated that dogs aren’t allowed on the sofas or upstairs. Our dog has separation anxiety and sleeps in our bedroom so we wouldn’t have booked this cottage if this information was given in the description. Properties should either be dog friendly or not dog friendly not something in between.

Hi - thanks for your feedback. The cottage is dog friendly as per the guidance from Sykes, you can bring your dog to stay with you. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed upstairs. I was led to believe this was part of the booking terms and conditions from Sykes. Property Owner

The touch sensitive lamps in the bedrooms were very useful. The property was in an ideal location and a short 5-10 minute walk into the town centre with lots of shops. There is a convenient field just round the corner for our dog. Most shops are dog friendly. The only downside of this cottage is it's on a hill so you have to navigate the steep path but this didn't affect us. We benefited from the parking space in front of the house. The cottage has the added bonus of off-street parking. The advert says two small cars. We managed to get a Jaguar F-Pace on without a problem. The cottage has modern decor and furnishings and is comfortably appointed. The modern kitchen had everything needed. We couldn't have asked for anything more. The heating was lovely and warm. My only niggles are the 5pm earliest arrival time, teamed with an early 9am departure, felt short changed at both ends of the booking. Perhaps an earlier arrival during the dark winter months would be fairer.

Only thing it missed was a wachine machine which would be handy in an area known for walking, but there isnt space for one. Nice quiet area but less than 5 mins' walk into centre of Bakewell (down a very steep hill, beware if you have mobility issues). Listing says parking for 2 small cars. I have a Mini and definitely couldnt have got a second car in there with room to open doors. Would stay again, its a very welcoming, clean cottage.

So clean and cosy. Bakewell is a perfect location to enjoy many of the walks and local villages. The neighbours are lovely and bought us over a bottle of wine for just getting married. There were two little improvements that could be made. One being the towels provided, quite small, we are average sized people and struggled with them! Another being that there was no tea/coffee/pint of milk provided for when you get there which would be a welcoming touch. There was a bottle of wine which was nice bur after arriving very late after a long day of our wedding it would of been lovely if there was a some refreshments just to get you started. Clean and comfortable and very close to the centre. The walk down to the town was fine but it’s very steep walking back up so would be mindful of that. Also, the driveway in the photo is deceiving. We managed to just park a BMW 1 series and a mini on the drive but had to roll the mini back to open the door as not wide enough and there’s very little near by for on road parking so two small cars max. Also cottage was cold. boiler worked on and off all weekend. Owner was very helpful to help us sort it out the first night then it went off and came in again and wouldn’t go off. I didn’t want to spend all weekend talking about the boiler so with the 9am check out on the Monday which I think is too early we only stayed two nights. Enjoyed it just a shame it wasn’t cosy and also no starter pack ie pint of milk in fridge would have been nice at least. Just a non alcoholic bottle of wine?? Bakewell itself is lovely though. We had amazing food at a pub called The Woodyard and I’d highly recommend this food and drinks excellent great cocktails. Lovely bakewell pudding shop sold amazing cake too. Would come back I’d just bring throws and cushions to make it more cosy :-)

There is a short but very steep hill up to the cottage but it was ok for all of our party. The neighbours to the cottage are very friendly and would often chat to us on our way out. Whilst we were there the weather was lovely and we had a brilliant holiday relaxing, shopping, visiting other towns and doing walks around the area. Further up the hill there is a school which the neighbours told us rents out rooms to people during the holidays. On the Saturday night we stayed there was a very loud party at the school into the early hours of Sunday which kept some of our party awake. The parking on the front of the house was plenty big enough for a fiesta and saab. The cottage itself was comfortable, modern and clean. Our party consisted of four adults and two teenagers and the house sometimes felt a little small for all of us The furnishings are good quality and the shower is lovely. The kitchen appliances are good but the kitchen would benefit from more crockery as there was only 6 of everything and 6 of us staying there - this meant every time we ate we had to wash up before the next meal. The beds were comfortable with good bed linen but I would recommend you take more pillows as these are very flat. There is a small patio area outside which is a lovely suntrap (but only 4 chairs were provided to sit outside).
