We knew that the second bathroom was small but didn’t realise that it was so small that the hand basin sat on top of the toilet cistern and was so small that it was almost impossible to wash your hands. The other bathroom was very spacious and had a great shower. Both beds were very comfortable. My stay would have been better if the curtains did not let in so much light. A small point but the light woke me up early each morning.

The property

This superb first floor apartment is set in an historic stone-built, Grade II listed townhouse in the heart of the Derbyshire town of Bakewell from where you can discover wild Britain.

Dating from 1765 and originally constructed for the Duke of Rutland as part of his estate, the apartment offers high-quality accommodation for couples within walking distance of all of the town’s amenities.

Thought to have originally been the parlour of the house, the accommodation offers two fabulous king-size double bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities, with the master room having an impressive bathroom with a modern freestanding bath and a separate shower.

The second bedroom has a smaller en-suite which has a green energy saving toilet with a basin above to help save space in this Grade II listed property.

A well-equipped contemporary kitchen provides all that you require on your holiday, before you retire to the comfortable sitting room which boasts a feature fireplace and French doors to a small stone balcony overlooking a courtyard.

A unique feature of the apartment is two off road parking spaces, a real rarity in the town centre.

Step out of the front door and you are right in the heart of the town; The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop is right opposite and shops, tea rooms and pubs are all immediately at hand.

Bakewell always has something going on; will you be there to experience the Bakewell Food Festival in April, or Eroica Brittania, a cycling festival that takes place in June?

Farmers’ markets are held each month, but if you miss out on them, the town itself is a real foodie haven with a wide range of tempting treats to discover.

Bakewell is at the heart of the Peak District National Park with its wide range of outdoor activities, while for more sedentary days out, the magnificent Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall are both very close by.

Whatever you choose to do, this luxurious apartment will provide a very comfortable base for your holiday in rural Bakewell.
