A lovely warm comfy base to come home to on a cold winters afternoon. Visited Chatsworth for the Christmas decorations in the house and the lights in the garden it was fantastic. Haddon hall was another great afternoon out as well got us all in the Christmas spirit. Would love to visit again as we love Bakewell Thank you to the owners for the lovely welcome goodies.

Even extra essential food supplies left, milk, bread , butter tea , coffee , milk & wine ! Which was a lovely bonus. Good size lounge, dinning room/ table , utility room , kitchen, bathroom and very comfortable beds. Our only difficulty was the bedrooms on the front are quite noisy early hours from the traffic on the road and church bells . Otherwise perfect cottage , we had a lovely stay & felt very supported by the hosts.

Helen & Stephen's communication with us was second to none, even down to my son leaving behind a much loved hoody and it being posted back to us the day after we left. You two are great at this! - you will not regret it. It's faultless, everything you could need (such as kitchen and bathroom essentials/films/books/Netflix/local area walks/board games - just to name a few!) has been thought of by the owners. It's clean and bright, looks small from the outside yet incredibly spacious on the inside. We absolutely loved staying here, as have many others over the years (featured in the guest book). We can't wait to visit again and will recommend friends and family to do the same. Thank you so much for everything Helen and Steve, your cottage is simply lovely!

  • "The Oak Lea flat is a charming cottage in a great location."

It is very clean and has all modern appliances. There s a small sitting area that is quite comfortable for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening. Downtown Bakewell is a short five minute walk. The only drawbacks are; in the event of warm weather, opening the windows in the evening is necessary. Because the cottage is on a busy street there is a lot of road noise. Secondly, parking is very difficult, especially for an American without a lot of experience driving in England. Finding available permit parking was a stressful experience. Overall, a great place to stay. Just be patient with the parking challenges.

Thank you Steve for your feedback, we're pleased you found the cottage both charming and a great place to stay. Bakewell is a Victorian town with narrow roads and mostly street parking. The area is very popular with tourists during the day but the evenings are usually much quieter once the main car parks have closed at 6pm. We do provide a residential permit to all of our guests and usually they can find a parking space at the back of the church close to the cottage. The advantage of the cottage is it's very close to all the amenities and walks around the area. We fully understand that our roads are much narrower than you're used to in the States but we hope this doesn't deter you from visiting the Peak District again. Thank you once again Kind regards Helen and Steve Property Owner

Thank you Dwayne for your feedback. Sunday afternoons can be really busy in Bakewell especially during bank holidays. We're pleased you found a place to park until a residential space became available. We hope you'll visit us again soon. Kind Regards Steve and Helen Property Owner

  • "Very well located cottage just a short walk into Bakewell and walks onto the peak just a minute from the door."

Beautiful historic church opposite the cottage. Rooms are larger than they appear in the photos which was a lovely surprise. Living Room - Has 2 sofas, could do with a third and has room for it. TV has Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITV X & 4OD it isn’t a smart TV. DVD player with a huge selection of dvds. Dining room is well equipped with plenty of space for sit down family meals. The stair case is open at a point so tall people have to be careful when walking round. Kitchen is extremely well equipped, all the cutlery, crockery, cooking pans & utensils you need to cook a family meal. Oven is amazing! Dishwasher also very convenient. Boot Room - Iron & Ironing Board, Dog Towels, Washing Machine, Tumble Dryer, Small Fridge & Small Freezer all in this room. We travelled in December so luckily it was cold enough to keep food and drink out just in the boot room as the fridge wasn’t big enough. The light switches for the back yard & boot room are wrong way round too which seemed bizarre. The back yard directly out from the boot room is very small and narrow which seems to be common in Bakewell. There is also a narrow walkway from the main road/front to the back so muddy boots don’t need to go through the cottage itself. We found someone in the next door cottage kept leaving the wooden door/gate wide open which wasn’t ideal given we had a 4 year old & dog and it opens directly onto a main road. Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms, a large queen (can be twin which we requested but it wasn’t set up as twin) a small twin with a chest of drawers and a small single with a chest of drawers. The only wardrobe/hanging space is in the large master bedroom. The large bathroom has a huge rainfall shower with excellent water pressure, the roll top bath is perfect for a relaxing soak. The toilet is difficult to master the flush and very noisy which isn’t ideal at night when combined with the very loud extractor fan. No windows in the bathroom so the fan is a necessity. The cottage is located on one of the busier roads in Bakewell so light sleepers might want to consider earplugs as both adult bedrooms have main road facing windows. Parking is very hit & miss! You are given one permit, however then have to drive to the two roads you are allowed to park on in the hope a space is available! Any other vehicles have to locate areas without parking restrictions (few & far between in Bakewell) or continuously move your vehicle to avoid a parking ticket. Loading & unloading on arrival/departure is honestly a nightmare! It is a main busy road with the cottage located on a slight bend, because of this you are asked to do so from the opposite side of the road having to ferry luggage etc across the road in between traffic. This is a very comfortable and well situated cottage, with a few points to just be aware of. Lovely welcome package on arrival, detailed information pack which was very helpful. Lots of walk maps & suggestions. A few takeaway menus however none deliver in Bakewell, worth noting if you’ve left it late and don’t have anything in.

Thank you Gill for your feedback, we're pleased you liked the cottage and all the facilities we provide. Unfortunately we didn't have time to say hello to you as you were just pulling away from the cottage as we arrived in Bakewell. We do apologise that the KS bed wasn't split into two singles, this was an oversight on our behalf. We do provide contact details to all of our visitors and would have been more than happy to pop back to the cottage to rectify this for you. Bakewell is a small historic town and is extremely popular with visitors during the day. However the traffic subsides greatly early evening as the visitors depart. Oak Lea is very close to all the amenities and our guests are provided with a residential permit to use during their stay and there is ample 24hr parking within the centre of Bakewell to accommodate any extra vehicles that your visitors may have. As the cottage is advertised for 5 people, Oak Lea has sufficient seating/wardrobe space for 6 people. Yes the boot room is very handy when entertaining and preparing extra food for family and friends. The cottage has a small courtyard, so we do stipulate that we can only accommodate one dog. It's the responsibility of the dog owner to ensure that the inner gate to Oak Lea is secure, so if the outer gate is accidentally left open your dog should still be safe. The light switch for the courtyard is within easy reach by the inner back door for guests to switch on before leaving the cottage and is triggered by motion to ensure sufficient light is available when leaving and returning to the property. The other switch which is located by the back door is to give light when entering the boot room. Happy New Year to you and your family. Steven and Helen Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in the heart of Bakewell, easy to walk into town."

We didn’t have an issue finding a parking space behind the church despite the road works. The stairs are steep and had we taken my elderly parents we would have had to leave but that is a feature of these old houses and something we modern softies aren’t used to. The bed was very comfortable, bed linen very good quality. I didn’t find the towels very absorbent. Maybe fabric softener is being used as the towels were thick. Deducted one star for cleanliness as there was crumbs in the grill pan but it was otherwise clean.. I’m sure just an oversight. Welcome pack was exceptionally generous! We would recommend this cottage and we would stay here again.
