  • "I have already texted Jacquie to tell her we were very cold throughout the three day stay."

The boiler is malfunctioning, responding to demand from the thermostat with only a feeble boiler temperature resulting in the rads being cold to lukewarm at best: the temperature never got above 17.5 C. We have stayed many times in Sykes Cottages and this has been the first poor experience. Frankly if this had been our first stay with Sykes, we would not be a returning client!

It is only a short but hilly walk into the town and as the cottage is on three floors mobility could be a problem. I would certainly rent Rock Cottage again when visiting the area.

  • "The location of this cottage is perfect."

A few minutes walk and you are in the centre of Bakewell plus a forty minute walk direct from the cottage and you are in Ashford in the water. I also walked direct from the cottage to Haddon Hall. Six minute drive to Lathkill Dale and Youlgreave. Wasn't keen on the parking but better than being on street. A couple of windows in the bathroom need sorting but overall the cottage is great and I would certainly choose to return there.

We had a really nice stay at the cottage whilst working from home. The room sizes were very generous and the views were amazing. The cottage had all everything needed for a comfortable, relaxing stay. The wifi was strong, the shower was absolutely amazing, the bed was comfy and there was plenty of storage clothing. The only thing that let it down for us were; kitchen towels were missing, no oven gloves, the bed sheet had permanent stains and underneath the bed was dirty. These are minor issues and easily fixable. We would definitely stay again.

We love the position of this property, walking distance to Bakewell and elevated for the views. The cottage is comfortable and spotlessly clean and has everything we need including a parking space which is very welcome. If I was being picky I would say swap the washing machine for a dishwasher which I think is more useful when you are on holiday. We visit Derbyshire regularly and particularly enjoy walking from Bakewell and will certainly return. Thank you for providing lovely accommodation.

All details on the website are spot on, the stairs are steep’ish hence you need to know you will be up and down them several times a day hence it is only suitable for adult couples who have no mobility issues. Great views, comfy accommodation and we enjoyed it.

Suggestions: Kitchen - could benefit from more food preparation area rather than just the draining board; and a light over the cooker would be helpful. Bedroom - a second bedside light plus small table and a small chair or stool. The two sets of stairs are steep so not suitable for someone with mobility issues. Magnificent views across the valley can't be underestimated.

The home has all the amenities you would need for a night in; and its great location affords you the choice of a night out. There are so many wonderful hikes on your doorstep too! And the kind treats from the hosts were great. Our only "concern" (and that is applying the word liberally here) is that the listing could better explain the layout of the house and the absence of a garden for the dog. I don't think some people can handle the steep stairs in the house, or slightly daunting trek up the hill to the property. But these are minor drawbacks - it is a great listing for a stay in the Peak District.

It was very clean and had everything you could need. The house is in an ideal location with a short walk into the town. The hill is steep but it wasn't an issue. The only thing I think people need to know is that there isn't a garden. This was an issue for us having a dog. The garden is a front open space to park a vehicle not an actual garden. There was everything that you'd expect and much more! We would certainly recommend this cottage to couples without children but it is important to realise that it is not 'on the flat' when getting in and out of town is concerned. We loved being so close to the town centre yet being in such a quiet location, undisturbed by the busy Bank Holiday weekend visitors and traffic. The cottage is well equipped for those who want to stay in and self-cater, yet Bakewell has many great restaurants and delis so eating out is a pleasure. Comfy bed, good shower, snuggly fleece blanket on the sofa, with a packet of biscuits waiting for us, all speak of attention to detail. We had the restful break we needed so thank you for the welcome! A bedside table with a good reading light on each side of the bed would be a welcome addition, but that's being picky!
