  • "We throughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage."

Full of character and charm with everything you could possibly need for a stay. The extras included show attention to detail, from a wonderful welcome basket to wireless chargers in each room, umbrellas for rainy days and batteries in containers by every remote in case needed. Perfect location just a short walk into the centre of lovely Bakewell and a great base for visiting the local area. Communication was fantastic from the owners and we were made to feel very welcome. Can't recommend the Nestling enough !

Thank you Belinda for your fabulous review. We’re very pleased that you and your family enjoyed The Nestling and your time in Bakewell. We’re also happy that you enjoyed our ‘extras’, as we do try to provide everything that our guests should need for a comfortable home from home stay. • "We came for the pies and stayed for the vibes!"

Booked for a family weekend away by my genius mother, Joy, this place exceeded expectations I didn't even know I had! Walking through this cottage's doors was like stepping into an Enid Blyton Story (but better because it has a tiny pub corner). Within it, many beautiful features including a stained glass window and original oak beams added to the property's unique charm which truly set it apart from many other holiday homes I've stayed in. The host's attention to detail is undeniable as the small touches they made to make your dreamy getaway even more magical are impossible not to notice: from the silky-soft bed linen that made you feel as though you were drifting on a cloud, to the shower that left you feeling as squeaky clean as a dolphin washed in fairy liquid. All in all this cottage really is a treat (which seems fitting for a town famous for its tarts). So if you're looking for a getaway that is as satisfying as layered jam and frangipane, look no further as this property has everything you could want or need. Additional note for those complaining about lintels: my 6"5 boyfriend was fine and didn't bang his head once. If you're concerned about cranial injury, practice ducking prior to your trip.

Wow! Thank you Joy and Jessica for taking time out of your day to write such a comprehensive review. We’re very happy you enjoyed both the pies and the vibes, and found everything you needed for a comfortable stay ! Thank you for being such appreciative guests and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. All of our best wishes, Nicola and Keith Property Owner

  • "An excellent place to stay for exploring Bakewell (5 mins walk, if that, to the centre) and surrounding areas."

Very clean, well decorated, and has all the amenities needed. Communication with Nicola was easy and she clearly cares about ensuring a good experience - the lovely basket of wine and treats was an example of this and was very well received by ourselves and our two boys. The beds were comfy and despite the house sitting on a main road, the glazing ensured absolutely no issues with road noise - it was actually very quiet. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property!

Thank you Chloe for taking the time to write such a wonderfully comprehensive review. We’re really pleased you enjoyed your time at the cottage, and hope to welcome you back in the future. Kind regards, Nicola and Keith Property Owner

  • "6 or 7 lintels that could scalp a guest- rather excessive !"

No mention of the A6 being within 6 feet of the beds and no photos show of the proximity of the road.! The awkwardness of the steps at the rear, and the complications of collecting/returning a single house key should merit a mention for elderly guests. We feel these comments are relevant to Sykes's advertising the cottage .

Thank you Peter for your feedback, we are very happy that you found The Nestling to be spotlessly clean and hope you enjoyed your early check in, Christmas hamper and welcome gifts that we left for you to enjoy over the festive period. In response to your points we would like to draw your attention to the following :- -Sykes clearly state in the opening description that The Nestling is an ‘18th century stone cottage’, and as so, has slightly lower lintels than a modern property but this is part of the cottages charm. My husband is 6 foot tall and we have enjoyed many stays at the cottage without issue. -Photos 1 and 2 on the Sykes website clearly show the proximity of the cottage to the road, we have found our secondary double glazing is very efficient and so minimizes noise. Please refer to previous reviews to see that this has not detracted from previous guest stays, it merely enhances the ability to gain quick easy access to the centre of Bakewell. -Photo 3 clearly shows the elevation and beautiful views gained from the terrace and garden room at the back of the property and Sykes additional note advising that we have '33 steps leading to the rear entrance' is also there for all to read and assess if The Nestling is suitable for their needs. We believe the description and photos are a true representation of the cottage and hope despite your points raised that you enjoyed your time in Bakewell. Kind regards, Nicola and Keith Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay at The Nestlings…."

The cottage had all we needed and was just a five minute stroll into Bakewell with all its shops and places to eat and was an ideal base for exploring the Peak District. We feel that more information should have been given regarding access. The entrance to the car parking space off the main road was very tight both entering and especially leaving. We managed the walk down from the car to the back door but it was more precarious than suggested. Perhaps a mention of the steepness of the inside stairs would be helpful. They are small points that did not detract from our stay but we feel are worth mentioning.

Our only issue was the bedding - too hot and not enough pillows!

Hi Heather, Thank you for your review, we're so pleased you both enjoyed your stay at The Nestling. We take note of your comments regarding our bedding being too hot, however we felt by choosing a mid tog duvet this would generally be suitable for our guests in the varying British weather. In addition, for our guests comfort we have provided an oscillating floor standing fan in each bedroom for warm weather periods, and a throw for cooler nights. We also provide 2 pillows in each bedroom, so we're more than happy for the pillows to be relocated to suit our guests needs. Thank you again for your comments, we value your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Kind regards, Property Owner

  • "Absolutely lovely property that is really well fitted out and very comfortable."

The cottage is very welcoming and the fittings are very modern - everything you need is thoughtfully provided. The property is a short walk away from the centre of Bakewell which is a lovely town with lots of interesting shops. Car parking at the property is via a flight of steps up at the rear of the cottage, but the views from the top are lovely. The cottage would be difficult to access for anyone with mobility issues due to the steps. The rooms are well thought out and really well equipped. There were only two of us and the cottage felt very spacious inside. There is a large laundry room and a pretty garden room outside at the rear of the parking area, where we could sit and enjoy the fabulous views. There are plenty of walks around the area, including access to the Monsal Trail from Bakewell station and Chatsworth House is a short drive away.

The rear entrance to the cottage is down numerous terraced steps but you can exit the front which opens onto the roadside. Despite the business of the road the secondary glazing keeps the noise down. The terracing at the back creates a wonderful sheltered sun trap. It was very comfortable. The shower was powerful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. By crossing the road you can walk into the shopping centre alongside a mill stream which is delightful.
