  • "We really enjoyed our stay and found the Old Sawmill to be ideally situated for everything we wanted to do."

    We were delighted that there were biscuits, milk and tea awaiting us on our arrival and the accommodation had everything we needed. The only problem we had was with one of the beds which was not very comfortable, which we think was due to an old mattress which was rather 'saggy'. Otherwise, a good stay.

    Aside from the amazing location the accommodation was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The milk in the fridge was much appreciated as were the biscuits by the children! We loved sitting at the table and watching the world (and ducks) go by. Everything we needed for a relaxing holiday.

  • "We had stayed here previously and it was just as good again great cottage great location and great facilities my only want would be staying in the colder months if possible it would be lovely to have curtains to draw to keep out draughts as we had small baby and toddler with us and it was quite cool in evenings in bedrooms."

    Perfectly located for the Bakewell Showground and the town centre, and a great starting point and a comfortable return for all visitors/walkers. To make a comment: a spare set of house keys would have been useful, but this is not a negative comment.

Chatsworth 4 miles; Matlock 8 miles; Buxton 12 miles.

An attractive little market town retaining a delightful rural atmosphere and offering a good selection of shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as local farmers’ markets. There is an old 17th Century market hall in the town centre and a modern leisure centre with swimming pool nearby. Bakewell is situated within the Peak District National Park and is ideally placed for exploring this beautiful region. Both the rugged Dark Peak and the softer limestone White Peak are within easy reach, and Alton Towers, Britain’s premier theme park, is only a short drive away. There are many stately homes to visit including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall to mention just a few, while the impressive caverns in nearby Castleton and Little John’s burial place in Hathersage are also well worth a visit. Take a trip to Buxton and visit the impressive Edwardian Opera House, designed by Frank Matcham, who also designed the London Palladium.
