  • "Nice cosy, comfortable cottage nicely located for visits to Matlock/Matlock Bath, Buxton, Ashbourne, Wiirksworth and other Derbyshire attractions including Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Buxton Opera House."

It is situated up a steep hill and the cottage is accessed by several steep stairs from the dedicated parking space. There are lovely views of Wirksworth and the surrounding area from the terrace at the front of the cottage.

  • "Lovely cottage with fantastic views and with easy access to several towns and areas of interest."

It can get a bit chilly in the evenings as there is no central heating during the summer so any washing may not dry very well as there is no drier or outside washing line. The owner kindly provided a second clothes airer which allowed us to spread our washing out to facilitate drying. Bedrooms are very comfortable and tastefully decorated, as is the bathroom. The shower was a bit awkward as both the rainfall head and handheld shower head operated simultaneously or only the rainfall head operated. It was not possible to use just the handheld shower. The owner very kindly came out to adjust the shower to improve the situation although it did not eliminate the problem. Despite this, the shower was excellent. The kitchen has all the necessary equipment and plenty of space - we enjoyed several meals cooked at home. The table and chairs outside provided a lovely place to sit for breakfast or to enjoy the early evening sun.

  • "Wren Cottage is in a fabulous location with amazing views across the valley."

The cottage was clean and had spacious rooms ideal for a family of 4. It was furnished with all mod cons and has wifi. The beds were comfortable and outside there are chairs and a table to enjoy the view. Easy access to Matlock, Chatsworth, Dovedale and Bakewell. Thank you from the Davies family

  • "This is a beautiful area and from Wren Cottage it's only a short walk to Black Rocks and the High Peak Trail - both well worth exploring!"

On our holiday we also visited (and would recommend) Chatsworth House, Thor's Cave and rode on the Peak Rail steam train. Wren Cottage itself is great as well!

  • "This gorgeous cottage is in an amazing location with wonderful views, very peaceful and it's own parking space."

It is well equipped, clean and extremely comfortable and has a lovely feel about it. It is approx a pleasant 20 minute walk down into Wirksworth through the little lanes and countryside. Slightly longer coming back as it is uphill and quite steep in parts and we were there during the hottest week of the year so far - a good way to work off extra calories from all the lovely eateries in Wirksworth! Some fabulous walks in and around the area including a short walk to Black Rock. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage and the area and would love to return one day.

  • "Unfortunately, when we arrived - we were told there was a previous oil leak from the boiler and there was a very strong smell in the cottage."

The smell seemed to go away after a while when we left the windows open, but after returning after a day out, the smell was strong again. The freezer in the kitchen was also incredibly noisy, which is problematic with the downstairs being open plan. Aside from this, the cottage was lovely - the upstairs was impressive with recently decorated bedrooms and bathroom. The cottage is set in a beautiful area and the views are fantastic. The close proximity (albeit up/down a very steep hill!) to Wirksworth was great - the restaurants, cafes and pubs we visited were all fantastic.

Thank you for your feedback. The freezer has been replaced if you had let us know whilst you were there we would have acted immediately and purchased a new one straightaway. The oil leak is now fully repaired. We are pleased that you enjoyed the cottage and the surrounding area. Property Owner

  • "We had such a wonderful stay at Wren Cottage."

The cottage is set away from the road so is wonderfully peaceful with stunning views across Wirksworth. The cottage was spotless, had everything we needed and the beds were really comfortable. The location of the cottage was perfect for travelling to lots of tourist attractions. We can’t wait to return.
