  • "We absolutely loved our stay at the milk house."

Everything that you needed was there. The welcome basket was very thoughtful and much needed after the long drive from Aberdeen. The cottage is beautiful and the views incredible. The location is perfect with Wirksworth just down the hill. All in all a fantastic stay and Hannah and John couldn’t have been more welcoming.

  • "The only comment I have is that there is no 3rd toilet and the downstairs bedrooms were woken up by vibrations from the kitchen, it was rather loud."

Other than this, we had an absolute fabulous time, it is a beautiful property and will definitely book with you again.

  • "Beds were all extremely comfortable."

Kitchen very well equipped. House was very clean. Some more detailed instructions in folder would have been helpful eg room temperature controls, woodburner operation (no control over airflow), whether to strip beds at end of stay. No battery in dvd player remote control made operation interesting!

On arrival we had a basket of goodies which was lovely. Beautiful views of the surrounding area with sheep grazing in the field by the property which was lovely. We had lovely weather which always helps. There was no parking on the site but we didn’t have an issue as the owners gave up their driveway space which we used instead so that was very kind and then we parked on the road with other cars so it wasn’t really an issue. The Malt Shovel & The Rising Sun pubs within walking distance, both with lovely food and friendly atmosphere. I would highly recommend this property. Thanks for our stay.

We very much appreciated the welcome basket after a long journey- thank you. Everything has been thought of within this lovely home. The views are stunning and outdoor family meals were such a pleasure. After a day out we all looked forward to a meal and then relaxing in the spacious lounge and playing games with the children. Beds are extremely comfortable and bedrooms are very pretty.

The owners don't intrude but are also incredibly helpful if asked. The house itself is well stocked before your arrival with essentials such as hand soap and loo rolls, plus their is a generous welcome pack including good tea, coffee, wine and milk in the fridge. Just right for when you arrive. There is certainly plenty to do from sitting in the sun overlooking the delightful valley to hiking around the many visually appealing trails in the area. Pubs and restaurants are a 15 minute walk away in Wirksworth with good food and some particularly dog friendly pubs (try the Hope and Anchor).

The owners were very pleasant and very helpful, and the 'Welcome' hamper was very thorough and very useful - including the vino! The cottage is well equipped in all respects, including books, games, DVDs and the like. A couple of (hopefully) helpful suggestions - bedroom bedside lights need to be brighter, and the ground floor bathroom needs a lock and some means of preventing the shower hose dripping on the floor. Some hanging hooks in both bathrooms would also be useful. We would be happy to visit again, especially in better weather (when the outdoor facilities and fine views would be much more relevant!)

Ideal location and everything you needed. You could walk into the village easily down a country path which was perfect for letting the dogs have a run. Favourite pub was the “the feather star”! Would definitely stay again, we had a lovely family time! My only observation for improvement, would be to warn guests prior about the stony path down to reach the cottage from where you can park. I understand it already says you can’t drive directly to the property and the parking spaces provided are brilliant. The only issue we had was we had 2 elderly people with us, who thankfully can walk quite well, however some people may struggle with the access down to reach the cottage. Maybe a barrier to hold onto or something to aid walking down the hill section may be a future option? Thanks so much, will definitely be back when we can!!

  • "The inside of the Milk House was nearly faultless, very clean, modern appliances, fixture and fittings."

The beds were extremely comfortable but duvets a bit thick for the extremely hot weather we were having, maybe a thinner replacement during warm weather would be a good idea. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the property was the outside of the windows that needed a good clean. Such a shame, maybe they were due to be done very soon. The outside area was a work in progress and at present when sitting on the patio all you could see was a fence, the grounds beyond were yet to be turfed so not the greatest immediate outlook. However, stand up and look beyond and the views are beautiful. I understand from the owner that he intends to put a glass balcony in place of the wooden fence, and also to turf the land. The pathway leading to the property is overgrown and rocky and the land to the side of the property is also overgrown. I really hope the outside area is improved to the same standard as the inside of the building and then they would definitely have a five star holiday rental property. The owners were very helpful and friendly and I wish them well with their future plans.

  • "We were absolutely thrilled with the accommodation."

It is really well equipped, spacious and combines old with new. Hannah and John were there if we needed but left us to really relax and enjoy the break which was wonderful. The welcome basket was a really nice gesture. We can't wait to go back in the future.

  • "We couldn't have stayed in a better place than The Milk House."

the accommodation is perfect for a group (we were 6 but there is plenty room for 8). The house is beautifully decorated with exceptionally comfortable beds and pillows. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a lovely dining area there. We particularly liked the large lounge which is nicely decorated and comfortable. There was a great Welcome Pack in the house - the best we've ever had in a holiday cottage - which was a really nice, thoughtful touch. Hannah met us to ensure that we were happy and settled and was an excellent host. We had a lovely stay and found plenty to do in the area - walking and visiting National Trust sites.

  • "Very nice stay."

The only drawback was the plumbing, which was noisy. Otherwise, extremely good. Beautiful house and very well stocked. It would be useful to point out to guests that there is a lovely footpath from The Milk House to Wirksworth which runs just outside the house. It has a hard surface but goes through fields and over the railway. It took us 15 minutes to reach the edge of Wirksworth and another five minutes to get to the market place in the centre of town.

Really great place - really homely, spacious, warm, very clean and they’ve gone the extra mile to make the stay as easy and nice as possible. Really nice people who aren’t intrusive in the slightest but there if you need anything. Would highly recommend staying here, we will be back! The Feather Star pub in Wirksworth is an essential place to visit if you like nice beer and good music! The Northern Lights cinema is also a little gem of a place - and opposite another nice pub!

  • "This is a great cottage for one to three families or a group of friends."

Couple of immediate bullets points: The accommodation has been fitted out to a great standard throughout. The owners were willing to come over to explain things and were always responsive to calls. On arrival, the cottage was very clean and a hamper had been supplied with some essentials, which was a pleasant surprise. We stop in a lot of cottages and sometimes feel that the furniture and décor are the owner's cast offs, which is understandable. This isn't the case here as most of the furniture and appliances are new and are of a high standard. It was great for our two families as we had the lower ground floor, our friends has the upper floor and the communal kitchen and sitting room were located on the ground floor. I would highly recommend this wonderful cottage, great owners and pleasant location in the Peaks.

  • "Firstly I don`t understand your feedback scoring for accuracy of listing and on to value for money."

Just returned from a lovely holiday at the Milk House, Wirksworth. The house was perfect for us and provisions and flowers left by Hannah were very much appreciated. The house was extremely well equipped with all essential white goods plus toaster, caffitier, microwave and coffee machine. Plenty of pots, pans, china and cutlery. We loved the large lounge and kitchen area and spent some time playing games and, of course, eating and drinking! The bedrooms were all beautifully decorated and large, very comfortable beds and lots of wardrobe and drawer space, also plenty of plugs sockets in each room. We were a family group which included two children aged four and one and they shared the lower ground floor with mum and dad. Myself, husband and daughter shared the the upper floor, which made it easier to put the children to bed as there was a floor between them and us so it was quieter for them. Hannah, the owner and her partner, were on hand if we needed anything including places to eat, places to visit and local shops. My daughter had a migraine on the first night and Hannah came across in the snow and rain with a hot water bottle for her. Couldn`t have been better and I am sure that we would certainly visit again.
