  • "The place is lovely and had fresh sheets and towels and clean pots and pans (contrary to other reviews), the beds are a little bit uncomfortable however and the hot tub isn't really private as the upstairs people can see into our garden, and the place could do with better lighting especially as for the bedroom with no door the lights are connected to the passageway light so either have them all on or all off which is little inconvenient."

However it was still a really nice stay and would recommend, we went to dovedale which was only a 20 mins drive so was a fairly convenient location but other places were a little too far for us, but we didn't mind as we went to relax. The shower in the separate bathroom is a little temperamental as it was either too hot or cold but it was manageable. All in all, lovely place, would defo recommend.

Thanks for your nice review and really glad you had a lovely stay! To confirm no guests can see into the garden from the other holiday let. The windows are from garage storage and are not in use. I will look into the lighting and shower and rectify for the next guests. There are lots of tourist attractions within a close distance and well under 20 mins drive. Kind regards Property Owner

  • "Absolutely gorgeous little gem of a find!"

Loved the quirky decor and history of the place, as well as the modern upgrades and home comforts. The hot tub was perfect, and the communal area was great for dinners and gathering together. Parking is tight, but there are other spots opposite the church and further up the lane for additional cars.

  • "The property was absolutely beautiful with a well maintained garden and lovely hot tub."

It’s very quirky and a pretty property which was also very clean! Our only slight complaint would be that the sofa bed is far below standard, it looks like it has previously been repaired but it just feels like you’re sleeping on a bed of screws. The other rooms and beds were perfectly comfortable though. The rest of the cottage is well equipped and very pleasant. We would definitely return for a second visit!

  • "The space in general was great, we loved the surroundings and the hot tub."

The open plan kitchen and living area was great so the 8 of us could continuously spend time together. The pull out beds were very uncomfortable. The sofa bed was incredibly lumpy, I did not sleep. The fire alarm went off 4 times between 3.30am and 4.00am on night one, this made everyone very tired the next day - we also couldn't sleep properly the next night thinking this could happen again. 5 of the guests were new mothers who were looking forward to a good nights sleep. The pots and pans in the cupboard we wished to us were still covered in grease, dust, dirt, some were unusable. If they aren't able to be cleaned anymore they should be replaced.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you loved the property. I am sorry about the issue with the fire alarm. The cleaning team did make us aware and we sent a text to you to advise that we could get an engineer over to resolve this but we had no response from you. We havent had any negative feedback about the pull out beds in the past however furniture can be subjective from Customer to Customer. I will pass on the feedback about the pots and pans to the cleaners. Once again, thank you for your comments Property Owner

  • "Had a great stay."

Lovely quirky properly with lots of amenities. Loved the location it was so peaceful but close to local attractions. We visited Alton towers and Buxton which were only 30 minutes drive away. We did have a small issue with our key breaking but the team sorted it out quickly and there was plenty of information provided to help make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Just wish we could of stayed for longer. Our families (x2 2.4 children) loved it! Especially the hot tub. Hopefully we will be back again soon.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad to read you had such a lovely stay and we would look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "Yew tree nook is a truly unique and quirky property."

It is bursting with character due to the lovely vaulted ceilings. The property was clean, well designed and extremely comfortable. The hot tub was great. It is very close to shops in Ashbourne, and very well located to enjoy the best of the southern peak district. We loved our stay and we would definitely stay here again (family with 3 young kids). There is also a large property to rent directly above, so there's space for large extended families, and we're hoping to rent both soon for precisely that. The only thing I'd mention is that the parking is tight: it IS possible to fit two estate sized cars in the parking area, but you have to be inch perfect. Overall, 10 out of 10.

Property was clean and exactly as described and shown in pictures. Lovely open plan kitchen diner and lounge, perfect for socialising, and roomy enough for a 3 year old to play and run around. Vaulted ceiling bedrooms, gave a real cosy feel to the place. Hot tub was enjoyed many evenings and was very well lit. Large TV in the lounge which was great for 5 of us to watch Christmas films A very nice touch on arrival with a brightly lit Christmas tree in the lounge area made it very festive - thank you. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Thanks Michael! Really glad you had a nice time! Happy New Year! Property Owner

  • "On arrival the cottage has mildew ( mould growing on settees ) soft furnishings , bedlinen extremely tired and musty."

The carpets are so worn they have holes in them. The entire property is desperate need of a deep clean. Called cleaners on arrival who did respond and filled on our request the property with air fresheners . This only masked the smells . Thanks for so promptly. We have left the property early as it is causing both of us breathing difficulties. Definitely not caused by COVID ! We cannot recommend this property and feel that you should notify the property owner that soft furnishings need replacement as does the carpet. On the positive The hot tub outdoors was clean and the property does have effective heating ,

Hi, I’m really sorry and upset to read your review. I’m not sure why you had these problems but I wish you’d called during your stay as they all could of been rectified. All the items have been professionally cleaned and as you can see from my review after yours I received a 100% score. Property Owner

  • "Have just returned from a week away at Yew Tree Nook."

Lovely part of the country and potentially a lovely holiday home. But a few things have prompted me to give a review which is based on the thoughts of the people who we holidayed with. The property was well appointed although being able to sit in a comfortable way in the lounge was difficult as all the sofas are in separate parts of the open plan room so not very cosy for family get together and viewing of the small tv. The bins were full when we got to the property on the first day and we were heavily plagued throughout the week with flies and bluebottles. When we left we had to leave our rubbish by the bins. Not very hygienic! The wifi reception is intermittent but that is probably due to the remoteness of the property. The dishwasher did not work. The 2nd bathroom in the shared smelled musty and felt damp. We could not use the hot tub on the last 2 days of our visit as it smelled really bad. We have our own hot tub and know that chemicals should be added on a regular basis to maintain the hygiene level. We chose this property as it had a hot tub so were disappointed at not being able to use it. There were no electric points in the first bedroom so could not use hairdryer/hair tongs etc in that room. These may seem little things but for a 5 star property it was disappointing.

Hi, thanks for your review. The sofa can be moved to suit your needs. There are three sofas seating 8 people in total. The TV isn’t small but I suppose is if you’re expecting a cinema. The bins were emptied on the day of your departure and could of been emptied sooner by myself if you’d notified me during your stay. The WiFi is 900 mbps fibre to the premises. The best you can get so that is an odd finding. I’ll look into this. The hot tub was cleaned out before you arrived and is before each changeover.Thesockets have been fitted as pointed out and I apologise for this! Thanks Property Owner

  • "When arriving at the let the smell of damp was very pungent and overtook the excitement of anything else."

The carpets had obviously been wet and the flooring in the kitchen diner had also been wet from a flood. We moved a sofa closer to the TV and the back and side of the sofa was covered in thick mould. This sofa felt wet when sitting on it. The bedrooms was obviously very damp smelling and this was extremely disappointing and upsetting. The shower room off the 2nd bedroom the shower didn't work and the bathroom stunk. The shower in the main bedroom had no handles on the controls and was very difficult to turn on and off. The floor was constantly wet from standing water from the shower. The sink also constantly dripped water. The hottub is not private and I don't think that the cleaning regime for the hottub is right. We had to ask from chlorine to be added because the smell was awful and stale. This cottage is NOT cheap and my expectation was not met. This holiday let needs taking off the letting market. The property needs drying out for some time, a new carpet throughout and better ventilation is strongly advised. It actually is a lovely place if these problems are sorted. The let upstairs actually walks ups stairs past your kitchen window and is very off putting. My partner and I both left the property feeling very chesty and ill from being in a damp environment.

Hi, your review is very upsetting! No call from you during your stay as we could of resolved the issues. Sorry the carpets were damp as they’d just been cleaned. No evidence of mould anywhere after your stay. Showers and drains all work fine. The hot tub is cleaned before each guest arrives. Property Owner

  • "We were blown away with the character of the property."

It was stunning. We unfortunately had a little trouble with the hot tub on the Friday evening where we had to contact the owner. Although we were disappointed we could not use it that evening, someone was out for 8am the next day and got it fixed for us to use after our walk on Saturday afternoon which we were really happy with. Really quick service and very apologetic. The only feedback I would have is the lack of everyday essentials. Things like cling film, foil, salt and pepper etc that you don’t really want to be buying just for a couple of nights. We did also run out of toilet paper as I think we only had one additional roll between two bathrooms. The recycling bin was also full to the brim when we arrived. So we unfortunately just had to stack our boxes/glasses and cans next to it. However, these were just minor things that did not negatively impact our stay, just would have made things a little easier and convenient. On a whole we had an amazing time and the property was the perfect getaway. I would also like to let you know about the private chef we hired for the Saturday evening. This was David from The Dinner Party Company and he was amazing. The pre-event communication, food, and service was amazing and such good value for money. A nice little addition to top off a really relaxing stay and happy to share his details if it’s something you’d like to promote to guests. Thank you for a great service and stay! Kind regards Hannah and guests

About the location

ASHBOURNE

Matlock 15.7 miles; Bakewell 16.6 miles; Chatsworth 20.4 miles.

Lying at the southern end of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a perfect example of an English market town - market place with stalls, eccentric street plan, narrow cobbled alleys, coaching inns and almshouses. In its heyday in the 18th-century, the town was a fashionable social centre, and many fine Georgian buildings remain from this period. Today the town still has much to offer in terms of restaurants and inns and is regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters - but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer more outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by and for thrill seekers Alton Towers with its exciting collecting of rides and attractions is just a short drive away.
